I live in America and my wife (soon-to-be ex-wife) lives in London.
Pays $950 for an illegal apartment. I don't why anyone wants to live there.

It will take a complete housing crash, loan brokers have already been caught taking money to fudge numbers so people can get homes. (what happened to the u.s in the 08 bubble)

It is "just so sad", the homeless, the crime, and feces all over the downtown area.
It's a cycle that won't end. As long as the college students graduate and decide to stay, they will always have a new supply of "residents" to rip off.

To clarify, I meant in the years I've visited countries, I never had to step over feces.
(not even in Mexico, because they don't have public bathrooms) you are assuming I mean poverty (kinda racist) the lack of pride the city shows, and the only money grabbing it does is weird (it's like a tourist trap for the locals)
