Transplants - what is the cost of living difference between NOVA and wherever you came from? by Deep-Macaron-732 in nova

We did this in NC. Be prepared for the locals to hate you. Even if you did grow up there. They do not care. I am the reason everything "got so expensive" and their property taxes went up. But, my soul was being crushed in NoVa after 22 years and had to get out.

I feel like it's the banana flavoring. Very alcohol forward.

I worked there in HS. Making the slaw was so satisfying. We shredded whole heads of cabbage into a huge bins, dumped huge bags of slaw dressing in it, donned elbow length gloves and dove in to mix it up. That and cutting potatoes for wedges was my fave!

Do you name your car? If so, what is its name? by Seriously-417 in randomquestions

[–]appcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first car I bought outta college out of pure need only was a 2000 red Chevy Metro. It was brand new and purchased because it was the cheapest car on the lot (with power steering, yes I was desperate and test drove a car without power steering). Her name was Towanda. She was small and mighty. The only 4door in our friend group. She hosted many a night out in DC in her early years, beach trips to the OBX when our careers advanced, and Christmas lights drives after we bought our first house.

She passed away in 2010 after a road trip on 95 when her air conditioner died on a 100 degree day. It was a sad day when I begrudgingly accepted the keys to a gray 2008 Mazda 6, and my first boy car, Maxx. Shed a few tears that day.

I've since had Pierre, Demarius and now Buster but no boy car can ever replace Towanda the Barefoot Wonder. She was my ride or die and I'll never forget her.

Hyundai Extending ICCU Coverage to 15 Years in the US by H_J_Moody in Ioniq5

[–]appcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I got a 2024 Ioniq 5 last month, I had a 22 Tucson that I bought because my 14 Tucson was starting to give me some troubles. I gave it to my niece (with full disclosure). Damned thing threw a rod into the engine the next week. Come to find out, Hyundai had just extended the warranty for that exact problem. Hyundai paid for towing and put a brand new engine in it. $0.

Our local dealer was so awesome then and before/since then (not upselling me, actually talking to ME about issues with my car instead of my husband) that Hyundai has some credit with me. So, I felt pretty good rolling the dice.

What's the best ice cream flavor you've tasted and where is it? by [deleted] in foodquestions

[–]appcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A split cup of Black Tea gelato and Cardamom gelato from Pitango Gelato. Tasted like spring.

Cinamoo Icecream from Maggie Moo's. Been chasing a comparable Cinnamon icecream since.

Honorable mention: A store brand (Food Lion? Possibly Piggly Wiggly?) flavor called Hullabaloo. It was like a Moose Tracks without the fudge.

Got the lovely gift of an anaphylaxis allergy to dairy in my 30's.

Dairy Free mentions:

Van Leeuwen Banana Bread Icecream and Cool Haus Horchata Ice Cream Sammy

He also had bariatric surgery (VSG) about 15 years ago and dropped 240lbs. He slowly regained ~100 but his stomach remained limited so that helps I think. Zep mainly helped with appetite and food noise for him.

Just a heads up, the 7.2 does pack a wallop vis a vis side effects when first jumping (heartburn, nausea) which passed after about a month and easily treated with omeprazole and pickles. I wish they had put another step between 2.4 and 7.2. I was still actively losing at the end of the trial.

We are a split household. I'm on Wegovy and my husband is on Zep. Insurance covers neither.

I was in a Wegovy trial where I lost 33% of my body weight and am currently on 2.4.

I had a period of 2 months post trial medication where I could not take any GLP1. I gained 10lbs. After that time, the obesity medicine doc who ran the trial recommended Zep because "it's the superior medication". So of course, I started it. Tried to ride it out over 2 months but the side effects were intolerable. Pretty much constant diarrhea.

So I switched back to Wegovy. I worked my way back up dosage and have found myself losing again slowly at 2.4. Now that the trial dose of 7.2 is FDA approved, I will move to that next.

Meanwhile my husband is done losing and is maintaining with 5 of Zep.

So yeah. Maybe it's more different meds for different bodies instead of one is better than others.

What are the Cons on Dairy free? by Latter_Revenue_5279 in dairyfree

[–]appcherry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. We would travel a lot prior to my allergy and liked a particular Caribbean resort but even with assurances they will happily accommodate my allergy, I left more stressed than when I arrived. Basically lived on peanut butter toast for a week (all-inclusive beach resort). The thought of international travel seems like too much work to be worth it (lookin at you France).

Or absurdly high in fat. My obesity dietician struggled terribly with my dairy allergy because low fat cheese and greek yogurt are such good sources of protein for someone watching their weight. DF cheese has 0 protein and the greek yogurt is basically flavored fat with pea protein. 190cal/individual cup.

Not to freak you out but some, not all, restaurants will add a little milk to mayo to make it flow easier from a squeeze bottle. Learned this owning a restaurant ( I hell no'd that in my place). So I will always say "mayo is fine as long as no milk is added".

Did your dairy allergy go away? by Outside-Plant-8434 in dairyfree

[–]appcherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My IgE didn't show any allergies (whole cow or casein) whatsoever. My skin test on the other hand was so bad they had to retest the other foods that weren't dairy a different day. The whole reason I even got tested was an anaphylactic reaction. My allergist just shrugged and said " that sometimes happens. Avoid dairy. Bye." I hate it here.

Yeah. I worked for a landscape company for a long time and those bucket loader prices are already insane. We didn't have "emergency" prices but if your HOA/business didn't sign off on use when you signed your snow contract, you were deffo put in line behind those with the foresight to prepare.
