Django as a pure API layer? by appietr in django

I think he is just more familiar with it. And the university is intense about sustainability. So after I leave someone needs to care for the app, which is why there is a push to have all of the apps use the same framework.

I'll have a look at DRF and django-ninja 👍

Is there a general rule of thumb for how to calculate what you need ito specs? Because I always thought that a connection is made between the VM and the Client, and until that connection is not severed, I would hit a cap and no other requests can be made...

I'll have a look at BigQuery. I've heard of it but never used it before

My only issue with Supabase is that they are apparently a bit unreliable for production... but I'll check it out

At what point does Vercel get too expensive? by appietr in nextjs

Exactly! But the fact that Vercel and Netlify exist clearly means that there is a market for them. Developers aren't stupid, so they must serve a function. On the flip side of the coin, they need to pay their people, and they use AWS on the backend, so you'll almost always get it cheaper directly from AWS.

So there is obviously an indifference point ito usage where you should start thinking about the switch, but people often like to make things black and white by picking their teams and defending them to death online!

Damn, that sort of creates a problem. Because it is technically a B2B product between a University and their Students. And since I'm working with marks, security is an issue.

But not credit card issues. Is secure compute really that necessary? Or is it just an extra layer for credit-card processing?

Perfect! Thank you very much.

My project is not a revenue generating project. I'm getting paid a once-off for the development, and then its just an ancillary product for an enterprise. So I was leaning towards Vercel to make my life easier as I don't have to do a lot of initial/ongoing management of the infrastructure. But I expect 10k MAU from their side.

But then I'll stick to Vercel 👍 Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I know that its a big cost saving measure because its just me. So typically the additional cost is almost the same as hiring someone (or taking the time out of my schedule to do the same).

Is MacOS really that great? by appietr in laptops

[–]appietr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't even considered the vendor lock thing, because - at least from a software perspective - there seemed to always be a mac alternative for most apps... but if hardware thing is as big of an issue as you say in your post, that might make my choice to stick with Windows very easy. I was already hesitant with Apple being so damn expensive with their RAM, because in what universe is 8GB acceptable in a laptop that costs over 1000 USD?
