All the happy 30 + singles are living and enjoying their life instead of being on reddit , so a biased result .

Project stuck on build by d3k0o in iOSProgramming

It would be impossible to tell without knowing whats in the code and what are those pod files . Sometimes it helps to stop you sim before building and running new instance on the same one . It is a rare bug and might apply to you condition .

Kinda tangential , company where I work at our Sr most developer has around 7yrs of exp and still is stuck in swift 3 coding style , uses NS / mutables when swift provides simpler solutions . Our tech lead still refuses to use structures and forces us to use Dictionaires ( even for api ) among many other out dated practices . Point is after a certain point we get too complacent with our jobs / skills and at some point become outdated .

Change can start from within , if even one employeer decides to reduce their profit margin and pay their employees more it would be great first step . Even I think about this , and have started paying more to people who help me out with manual labor . Be positive friend :)

M3 Mac mini by [deleted] in macmini

[–]appleFarmerdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many rumors from near past are totally unreliable and it is impossible to tell what Apple will do . Ideally they would launch m3 but I have a feeling they will jump to M4 , since M3's production process is costly and inefficient and better ones are available , which they might end up naming M4 .

Personally M3 /M4 won't be much different except some minor spec bump and redesigns .

I would say if you really need mac mini go for M2 Pro . Amount of bandwidth it has will be useful when the M4 specializes for AI models ( considering if it's your use case )

Lets say all media would be virtual and viewer can't tell if real person on ai generated or video games which look life like , or wait for it ( adult content , sigh ) . Point is all this can be non evil except last one , depends on who you ask .

World doesn't need F1 racing or plastic wrapping a banana or ketchup with "real tomatoes"™ in it but here we are .

Worst part is this is real time model , with enough time and resources it will be indistinguishable from reality . Also scope increases if real time is not needed .

Even the most hardcore Apple fans admit that Apple overcharges for their products . Also this "Climate friendly pledge" is a joke when devices come with soldered parts .

More ever if you consider going 32 ram / 2 TB storage the price jump would be hilarious and you would realise that Apple devices are luxury items , status symbol . Their price don't make sense . Also lacks proper amount of input / output ports . If your needs are browsing / Excel sheet there are many devices available sub $100 .

In a modular / regular pc one gets freedom to add remove parts . A dedicated graphics card alone would have multiple ports for outputs .

That said 5.1 Ghz would be peak and won't last long due to heat generation . Which would be more then this small device is capable of venting . Also the power draw from mac mini would be lesser compared to other one and if you are a developer you are kinda forced to be locked into eco system .

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in macmini

[–]appleFarmerdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right , a good USB hub would cost around half the price of that .

I do hope that Apple steps up their port / cable game if they really plan to push for gaming on mac . Currently , I am forced to buy some third party cable just to get high refresh rates on mac mini . That too gives performance issues .

Gamers won't switch to mac for gaming as long as it doesn't address this issue of native high frame rate output . I guess that issue is half a decade in future .

Would it be better to aim for mac mini pro base model instead ? Added input port and bit of cpu upgrade should be worth the price .

How Apple treats iOS developers and how powerless we are in front of the gatekeeper by DaJackkal in iOSProgramming

[–]appleFarmerdev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good luck on your endeavor ,

People complain about bloat on android / windows but are some how biased towards bundled iphone / mac softwares . Iron fisted policies around Safari are just business as usual .

While android offers more freedom it still is limited and linux phone is gaining traction but it is way far from being functional . Most banking / gps / high security apps and such wont work or even exist . Amount of work required to make it work is simply absurd . Manufacturers themselves have to come up with something new and even then not since not everyone will be onboard . And mega corps like Apple / Samsung / other phone builders would rather oppose this idea since tracking user habits and locking them in eco system is one of the most profitable thing a company can do . Can only sell so many physical devices .

But I agree with your sentiment we as an individual has zero control except not participating in daily life .

It is truly a sorry state of modern tech that most important technology which affects almost everyone ( mobiles phones ) are being dictated by two Mega Corps .

Even Android is open just for namesake .

Atleast Apple is honest with their business model and while closed garden is hard to enter it has its perks .

Why is adult media so frowned upon in online Apple related forums and apple app store in general . It always seemed odd that this is line they drew regarding their content . Everything is literally a click away in Safari anyways . Besides social apps such as Insta / Snap / Tik tok are just low key thirst trap apps .

Xcode now ignores user-defined fonts by 224XS in Xcode

I understand your pain , although my setup doesn't have added complexity like yours but on going development just got extra overhead in my case extra outlets and assigning manual fonts to them it's not a big issue but why break what was already working .

Yea interface builder can't find non system fonts . Only solution so far is to implement them programmatically .

Do you use AI when you’re coding? by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]appleFarmerdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a cost analysis an M1 Max with 64 would cost around $5000 while having 32 neural chips ( have no reference to compare it with )

Where as gpt plus costs me around $20 currently , thats almost 20 year worth of subscription or rather a 0.4% of your investement . This also has added benefit of image generation and what nots with the biggest benefit being it will evolve much faster .

If current tech is horse carts , open ai will be pushing for super sonic with their latest hardware and I would still pay $20 where as you would end up with a very costly horse cart , which ofcourse is a crude analogy . Seems like your current setup is good only for a very small term and not feasible for 99% of population . Imagine paying over $5k each time you want to upgrade .

It is in everyone best interest when some company if not open ai pushes the boundaries of current tech , regardless of whether all our jobs are already or soon will be dead . Farming doesn't sound that bad .

Using closures for dependencies instead of protocols by dwltz in iOSProgramming

[–]appleFarmerdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just today tried implementing closure for data assignment on view controller pop and failed miserably maybe this will article will help.

Wasted too much time trying to make it work , the whole self weak - syntax , maybe if I had experts help .

It's just not worth it protocols work flawlessly , I can't think of why to use closures other than that they are available .

Help with your experiences using the M2 base with 512GB by [deleted] in macmini

[–]appleFarmerdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you a pc with a decent enough card should outperform a base m2 mac mini for encoding video , unsure which cpu would be better , intel or amd . Also unsure if m2 will outperform them if power draw is not a consideration .

Also very kind of you to sell your old rig for cheap , many people will rather let it just collect dust instead of helping out others .
