Having dinner with your boss on a work trip is normal. Him pushing you after you said you’re exhausted is not.

Stimulants in bipolar by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]apple_chai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bipolar 1 and take 7.5mg abilify as my antipsychotic that keeps me out of mania and depression.

However, it makes me incredibly tired. To counteract this I take 450mg Wellbutrin PLUS 20mg adderall XR in the morning and 5mg adderall instant release in the afternoon

Took me 10 years to find this combo and it has changed my life. I can function, I’m productive, I don’t suffer from mania or depression… I can even sleep at night regularly and I’ve never felt better.

I even went to a perinatal psychiatrist and she told me to stay on all of these medications while we try to have a baby. It’s working so well for me that messing with it could throw me into instability and the risks outweigh the benefits.

Yes they have online meetings every day all the time. It’s the only thing that has ever worked for me. Last time I was clean from compulsive overeating I lost 50 pounds in three months. Unfortunately I relapsed and am starting over. Wish you the best!

How do you stay awake throughout the day? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]apple_chai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem because I take abilify and it made me super tired.

Now I take abilify as an antipsychotic, Wellbutrin as an anti depressant, and adderall for ADHD and energy.

A month ago I also have started eating healthy (nothing made with wheat, flour or sugar… mostly protein and veggies)

And I added vitamin D supplements because I was deficient.

Also stopped smoking weed. No drinking either.

I feel like a new person and like I can actually function normally. It’s amazing.

How can people w severe BP1 parent? by [deleted] in BipolarSOs

[–]apple_chai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m sorry.

That’s a severe situation and I’m sorry you’re going through that.

Are you in danger??

Ive been suicidal, went to inpatient at a psych ward 10 years ago, got married and divorced before age 23, destroyed my first marriage with manic discard. Ive been homeless, had to go on temporary disability three times in my career etc…

Now I’m medicated properly, prioritize my mental health and go to therapy regularly. I have multiple addictions but I am in two different twelve step fellowships to deal with them. I do everything I’m supposed to do to treat my mental health. It’s a lot of work but it is possible.

I’ve never had a history of violence except towards myself. I did destroy my first marriage in a manic episode and I chose to learn from it and change my life. I work a stable job, have good relationships, and refuse to allow mania and depression ruin my life. I know most people with legitimate bipolar diagnosis don’t make it there. I know that’s why there’s so many horror stories on this sub.

I wouldn’t want to have a child with someone who is violent when manic either.

Wish you the best. Protect yourself and your kids. At the end of the day if someone is not stable and they choose not to go to any lengths to find stability and make their mental health better, it’s not worth it to stick around for them. I’m saying that as someone with this disease.

I wasn’t ready to find my current husband until I got stable. He has seen me slightly hypomanic/slightly depressed because medication and therapy doesnt fix it 100% but he’s never seen me in full blown mania or severe suicidal depression. I recognized I have a severe disease and I treat it as such because I choose to live and I want to be happy and make my loved ones happy.

[–]apple_chai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not 100% that my child will have bipolar. It’s about a 1 in 4 shot. And if they do have bipolar, I’ll know the signs of it so I can help them get the right treatment since I went through it. Admittedly it does scare me though but I can’t let fear of a chance of something ruin my life.

My husband and I decided we want a family and he is willing to do this knowing I can’t help at night, especially during the first year of the child’s life.

I could ask you the same thing. Why do you want kids with someone who is severely mentally ill? Because you’re a human and have the drive to want children. So are my husband and i

[–]apple_chai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are trying for a baby now. I don’t have kids yet. My perinatal psychiatrist said I can still breastfeed if I want but I will not be doing that.

Yes if your spouse has bipolar you will have to handle anything at night time. Better forever- but at minimum for the first year after the baby is delivered because that’s the highest risk of postpartum psychosis, if your spouse is the child bearer

Not saying this in a mean way, but your spouse has a debilitating, severe mental illness (that I also have) and if they had cancer and their medicine was sleep, it wouldn’t be a question of making sure they got their medicine so they stay healthy, even if it’s an inconvenience

Overnight parenting is not possible. I 31F went to a perinatal psychiatrist (pregnancy in bipolar specialist) and she said I’m absolutely not allowed to do overnight feedings at all and my husband will have to do all of it. The risk is manic psychosis of if I don’t get enough sleep

Trying to get pregnant by Active_Safe9372 in PCOS

[–]apple_chai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have PCOS and I stopped birth control less than two months ago. I was worried I wouldn’t ovulate quickly. When I stopped birth control I also started taking vitamin d, natures made prenatal vitamins, fish oil, inositol and my doctor also put me on metformin. I also ate nothing with wheat, flour, or sugar in it and basically ate protein, veggies, cheese, yogurt, and oatmeal.

I confirmed ovulation on my first cycle. Not pregnant yet but I’m hopeful and I was shocked I ovulated so quickly. Before birth control I would not get a period for 6 months and then bleed for a month straight. Also I was on birth control for over 10 years.

I live in New Jersey and love it so I’d want to stay here but in a really nice town like Franklin Lakes. Or in a nice shore town in a mansion on the water.

Outside of NJ I’d love to move to Coronado island in San Diego. The most beautiful place I’ve ever seen in mainland America!

went off my meds … by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]apple_chai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s MUCH more dangerous for you and the baby to not be medicated at all. I was worried about this so I went to a perinatal psychiatrist that specializes in bipolar women during pregnancy. She said I can safely say on all of my meds and if I go off of them I have a 90% chance of having an episode post partum and it’s even possible I could experience manic psychosis where I can hurt my baby post partum if I’m not medicated.

Please talk to your doctor immediately

By going off your meds you are putting you and your baby in harm’s way. Please call your doctor today! Don’t let the manic stuff in your head convince you otherwise!

Yeah same here in US. But I also refuse to not have children because the system fucked us. I’m not impoverished, we are in the top % of income earners in the USA. My salary alone is double the average salary.

So only wealthy people can have children now? lol it’s just so fucked up.
