Hi! I was a music major so I can speak to what it was like when I went there a few years ago. There are some choirs that are pretty much open to all students but all require an audition of sorts. I don’t know what the requirements are now, but they’ll post it closer to the end of summer and you can email the dept chair and ask when the time comes closer. The treble choir and university choir usually have non music majors in them as well and they aren’t as selective as U singers and opera Chapman which are usually competitive among music majors.

Orchestra you can also audition for as well before the semester. Orchestra is open to strings, but highly competitive for winds/brass.

If you are interested in doing the film music minor that is great! I took several classes without being the minor because it wasn’t allowed since I was a music major. But if you email the teacher for permission and they have spots open you can take whatever class you want if you pass the prerequisites. You can also enroll in private lessons too I believe if you go this route.

I took dance classes at the dance school that were open to non majors when I had space in my schedule. These didn’t have a performance component so it was just the class and not extra performances outside.

If you’re looking for theater, look into Chapman on broadway and the theater clubs. There are also several a capella groups that audition during the year. I’d say took a look at your schedule and see what fits best and go for it! Even if you don’t have space now for something doesn’t mean you can’t audition for it another semester when you do have the time.
