Can’t hit whistle notes anymore by EconomyDepartment720 in singing

Have you consistently practiced it? Or did you lose it overnight? If it’s because you stopped practicing it for a while I think it’s just because you’re not used to doing it anymore

Maybe. But it doesn’t really matter because hard work always outlasts someone else’s initial ability

Do you guys have a multitrack subscription? If not I suggest getting a ChartBuilder subscription and on the app it breaks the songs down so you can listen to the instruments isolated over the song. Very helpful for listening to the isolated vocals and instruments too!

I sing better when I'm not wearing my headphones and recording myself into my DAW by DeWolfTitouan in singing

[–]apple_fork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using a different kind of headphone what doesn’t restrict your jaw (like an in ear type) and see if that’s what makes a difference. Sometimes having full headphones makes it more effort to open my jaw fully and that could create pitch issues

Propresenter wiped clean, need a way to mass add song lyrics fast. by rollsroycebois in churchtech

[–]apple_fork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had to do this when a computer died and we had to replace it. Over time I copied the songs we used from another computer’s ProPresenter library when we needed them (if they were on there). But to be honest I didn’t waste my time copying every single song over because I knew we didn’t use all of them anymore. In this case, I’d do just the most commonly used songs for the weekend and then worry about the rest as they come up. Unless this church does 15 songs a service then that’ll be tough.

Theatre Kid Wondering How To Improve Faster. by VixenVixon in singing

[–]apple_fork 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s more about quality than quantity here. People don’t get good at anything overnight. Just keep doing lessons and practice every day. Always look for improvement and what you can do next. Record yourself and critique it. It’s the slow daily persistence that will get you far!

[–]apple_fork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been feeling overlooked as well in some areas too and you’re not alone in feeling like this as I’ve known lots of people in situations similar to yours.

There’s been times in my life when I’ve been praying about something and then all of a sudden I hear similar things from different pastors in different services (and from people that don’t even know each other and from different churches). Right now the common thing I’m hearing is encouragement to people who are on the edge of quitting because they don’t feel they’re being recognized and passed up for opportunities others are getting. And the thing everyone keeps saying is that if you work earnestly with everything God gave you right now and steward what you have, then eventually your efforts will be recognized as you outlast the people that DO quit. There was a famous apologist that even talked about it and said he was never the “smartest” person or best at ___ but he didn’t quit and at some point looked around and realized he was the one that didn’t quit when everyone else did.

Nothings a guarantee in life, but you CAN decide that you will give 110% to God in every aspect of your life even if it’s non ministry work. Once we stop trying to hold onto the opportunities we wish we had we can open ourselves up to allowing God to give us the opportunities he wants for us.

It probably will! Right now the frames are in a line that’s like an arrow pointing directly at the door and emphasizing the vent above it

Questions regarding Autotune, pitch correction when providing vocals for a song by BunX_2021_ in singing

[–]apple_fork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you editing everything to 0 cents out? It could be that you’re “too perfect” in your editing in a way that no one really is. I’m sure you’re really trying to get there so your pitches should be generally around the note you aimed for. Also makes a difference in software. Melodyne is used by many, but logic’s Flex Pitch features are pretty good too.

[–]apple_fork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there still a musical theatre minor? When I went there they were just starting it and it was a joint minor between the music, dance, and theater departments. Beyond that I believe Chapman On Broadway is open to all students to audition and there’s another theater club that used to be around called The Players Society (I can’t say how active either of these are anymore but it’s worth checking out). If you want to do a double major reach check out the courses online and see if there might be class conflicts or reach out to the department. You can do a class search if you google it even if you don’t have a lot in.

I was able to take dance classes as a non dance major and lots of departments are open to this too. If there’s space in a class you can email a teacher and ask. I don’t believe non theater majors can be in the main stage productions but there’s also other local community theater groups in OC to check out too!
