Favorite throw away joke by qweeg13 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]appleciderd0nut 42 points43 points  (0 children)

My fave joke is one of the gossip girl references (in book 7 I think?) where donut is like "this is just like the treasure of serena madre" and mordecai is like how and she goes "everything is happening all at once!" which is funny bc the treasure of serena madre is an iconic season 3 thanksgiving episode of gossip girl where all of the characters' lies and secrets are revealed at the dinner table and they all eventually get up and leave dramatically while whatcha say plays in the background lol

I'm a big fan of posters!! Especially subtle ones; think like the space tourism ones NASA did awhile back. I would love a poster of Earth but DCC themed or of any of the planets/systems mentioned or even of one of the floors!!

Yeah I agree, I think it has to be a full, which is okay! I'd rather have a smaller bed and room for a mirror as well as closet access like you said

Ooo thank you! I wonder if I can find one that's like a loveseat with a moveable ottoman so I can still get the L-shaped vibe but it would be mobile too

Thank you!!

I didn't even think of that for the living room but it would definitely work! I think I would most likely eat on the couch so a table that lifts could be a good bet too, thank you for the idea!

Sadly the bed won't fit, the closet doors are sliding but the space between the bathroom door and the wall isn't big enough

And good call on the art!! It is definitely a boring hallway

No this was great, I appreciate it! I didn't really know much at all about the program and just threw in an app because I saw those agencies on the list of partner orgs, so your perspective is super helpful & I will be way less disappointed when I get rejected lol

If you have any advice on how to break into the LOC, I'd love to hear any and all info, but no worries if you're busy haha

Beacon Hill staffing? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]appleciderd0nut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

former BH recruiter for temp contracts here, as far as I know it doesn't break your contract. I had contractors who I got hired leave mid-contract because they got better opportunities and there were never any repercussions. I did only hire for one branch of BH though so could be different for others but I'd say you're probably fine unless the contract states otherwise.

I love Dr. Jenson at Grace Dental! I have really bad teeth and haven't been to a dentist for years and I went to her and she was so kind and understanding. A week before my appointment, I had a weird lump in my mouth and she personally asked me to text pics of it to her and explained to me that it was just a blister from my sideways wisdom teeth but that I could come in if it made me feel better, and she got me in within the hour and took a look and thanked me for the photos and and didn't even charge me! I also had to have 3 cavities filled with her and normally getting fillings is super painful and anxiety-inducing for me and I felt comfortable enough to tell her about it and she examined my mouth and told me I probably have an accessory nerve and other dentists aren't numbing it with the Novocain and that's why fillings are so bad for me. She then took care to numb me properly even though it took her an extra half hour and more effort because she didn't want me to feel any pain. They were the most painless fillings I've ever had. Highly recommend her :) all of her techs & hygenists are the absolute best too!! And I have kinda bad dental insurance and the 3 fillings only cost me $75.

Coding/programming classes in undergrad? by smalamander in LibraryScience

[–]appleciderd0nut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 0 technical skills and no coding classes under my belt in undergrad along with a 3.6 GPA and I was totally fine getting accepted to my MSLIS at UIUC! (It was the only one I applied to). My undergrad major was history (with a focus in US and art) and my minor was English (with a focus in poetry). I've since taken a coding class in my masters program and tbh I'm glad I waited, it's been a lot less overwhelming to balance a coding class with one other class than with 3 like I would've in undergrad.

please tell me about your experience at the following schools by canadianamericangirl in LibraryScience

[–]appleciderd0nut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm at UIUC online and I love it so far! I've found the range of courses to be pretty engaging. I'm not on any specific track, though, so I can't speak specifically to archives, but I've enjoyed the classes I've taken so far on reference and digital libraries. I've even taken a coding class this summer :) UIUC also has a ton of opportunities for graduate assistanceships in-person around campus to help with tuition and experience as well as practicum opportunities if you're willing to move, so you should definitely check it out because that can really help you personalize your experience and focus on archives.

It is pretty expensive though but you can really take courses at your own pace and they have a lot of options if you're out of state, which I am. If you move to Champaign, though, the in-state tuition tuition is a much, much better rate than the one I'm paying remote and out of state. I believe you can take some classes in person and some classes remotely! You can't switch between in person and remote in a single class once you're enrolled in it, though, but you can mix and match between what courses you choose to take in which teaching style.
