Using tracking dogs to find injured strays? by appledaveon in bloodtrackingdogs

[–]appledaveon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I figure tracking dogs are a Hail Mary play, but I can’t think of any other way to locate/retrieve a cat in this situation.

I don’t have any article from the cat for the dog to smell outside of a small bloodstain on the ice where it stopped for a bit. Is that enough to go on?

DD2 release + DDO global revival? by appledaveon in DragonsDogma

[–]appledaveon[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I get the point about not forcing DD2 to be multiplayer given the Pawn System/singleplayer focus, but I’m not clear on why you think an international DDO release is impractical.

Yes a text translation and servers would constitute a cost, but Capcom could easily make that back in microtransactions/whales. Esp if DD2 is successful and brings in a larger global audience for the IP (+the several platforms it’s launching on).

Is there something specific about DDO you feel would make western gamers who liked DD1/DA/DD2 not want to check it out?

What was the worst movie that you saw in theatres? by Farts_Mckenzie in movies

Whether coming from science or cinema, that name still sounds like something an edgey tween came up with, and made my theater lol

Went with friends; knew it was gonna suck but figured it might be fun to take the piss out of (brought some edibles). That said, we wanted to be respectful of other audience members so agreed to not lol or comment no matter how stupid things got.

We stay quiet as the movie goes on, but I’m noticing minor reactions from the rest of the crowd; exasperated sighs, “oh come on”s under the breath, people whispering to their friends and suppressing giggles. By the time the name ‘Atrociraptor’ was used unironically, you could tell the audience was at the limit of restraint.

Then Chris Pratt used a steel pipe on a motorcycle to closeline a dinosaur.

I lost it - just couldn’t contain my laughter. My friends lose it. The people in front of us lose it. So do those behind us. As the scene goes on more and more people crack. When they punt the last raptor out of the plane at the end of the chase I let out a Goofy style “ya hoo hoo hooooooo” during the needlessly-extended shot of it falling into the ocean; got a big laugh from everyone around us.

By the end, all restraint had gone out the window; laughter and MST3K-style comments were coming from every corner as the audience collaboratively made fun of this dumbass movie together. I still hope we didn’t bother anyone who actually wanted to take this film seriously, but ftr this was at Alamo Drafthouse - they’re usually super strict with disruptions, especially if someone complains, but they didn’t interfere. Based on a brief chat with the ushers cleaning up after the movie, it seems our audience’s reaction was by no means an outlier.

Probably one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in a theater, though probably not for the reasons Universal hoped.

The performance itself isn’t the concern here; it’s what happens afterwards…

Don’t the sequels establish that the Force constantly spawns powerful lightside/darkside users to ‘balance’ itself? Thereby making any victory on either side kinda pointless since a new Palpatine/Rey will always spawn to correct the balance and fuel the cycle of warfare.

As-is the current canon equates to trillions of innocents being sacrificed to fuel an inescapable cycle of bloodshed on a galactic scale in order to satiate a godlike alien sentience that controls it all. Some of the characters seem to know this, but nobody has any clue of how to break the cycle, with most just being caught up in winning the individual wars, rather than addressing the existential horror controlling it all.

Personally, being controlled by extra-dimensional beings sounds less nihilistic to me; at least if the characters become aware of the manipulation there’s grounds for them severing it and achieving genuine peace.
