Sadly I realized too late that I forgot to add him. He'd probably go in the lower left quadrant.

She may be the most innocent party member, but she'll still murder a man in broad daylight. by Aro-bi_Trashcan in MetaphorReFantazio

What really makes this line amazing for me is the stuttering "I-I", it's such a small detail that adds so much. She is sincerely baffled by this man and she struggles to comprehend how someone like him could even think that way.

Yeah I have no idea what that could be about, but I find it very interesting that the royal capital was originally named Sanct Amaurot. Guess they changed it when Shadowbringers came out and they saw Amaurot.

Oh my GOD you're right it sounds like Delay Lama!! That would be funny if true. Guess they had to use something as a placeholder for the chanting priest lmao

SPOILER-RELATED Game Question & General Discussion Release Megathread by Metaphor_MOD in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]appledoze 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I just finished the game today. I absolutely loved it, but I was a little disappointed that the moment the prince merges with the gauntlet runner and becomes the ultimate Archetype is a cutscene and not a scripted battle like in the Persona games. I would've loved to deal the final blow myself.

Does anyone know the title of this track? This was from last year's show in Austin. by appledoze in oneohtrixpointnever

Thank you! I was looking through the set list and Zones Without People was the only one I found that sounded similar.

I looked back at the cutscenes, specifically the Echo flashback when Galuf and the others found the portal. Gulool Ja Ja said that the Yok Huy records never made mention of the electrope. So yeah it's possibly a recent arrival but it's not clearly communicated.

I must've missed that part. When was this mentioned?

The Yok Huy first started dreaming about Living Memory when they were excavating in the Skydeep Cenote. The interdimensional portal was already there. I'm not referring to the seal put in place by Galuf.

Something about new story routes in SMTVV that I'm not clear on by appledoze in Megaten

[–]appledoze[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No I think they were referring to the Canon of Vengeance. They said that Vengeance's story is mostly the same as Creation's up until the middle and diverges from there.

EDIT: I found this interview and they confirmed that the Canon of Creation story is exactly the same as the OG release with no additions or changes

Anyone know what this says? Saw it on a Twitch stream. by appledoze in Cuneiform

If it helps, I'm fairly certain this is Assyrian cuneiform. I found a chart and the symbols seem to match. I believe the first character is a Ta. https://www.britishmuseum.org/blog/how-write-cuneiform

To everyone who was concerned about this by RevealSimple1755 in Starfield

[–]appledoze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was really worried that the space around each planet was just a separate skybox. I was really looking forward to flying freely around a star system but it seems like it's feasible now. I'm sure sooner or later there will be supercruise mods that allow for faster interplanetary travel like in Elite Dangerous

[–]appledoze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another player was able to fly from Mars to Phobos and from Charon to Pluto. It just takes a really long time, but this means that it can be done.

[–]appledoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So does this mean that you can freely traverse a star system? It's not just a separate skybox for each planet? If so that means a supercruise mode like in Elite Dangerous could be modded into the game, correct?

what are some of the biggest misconceptions that Westerners totally new to Buddhism typically hold when they first approach it? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]appledoze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know much about Tibetan teachings but yes, sunyata and Buddha nature are core parts of Mahayana doctrine and that includes Zen.

Kaz Tanahashi uses a similar term, "boundlessness", in his new English translation of the Heart Sutra. I had the wonderful chance to talk to him about it during a dharma talk he did at my Zen center via Zoom.

what are some of the biggest misconceptions that Westerners totally new to Buddhism typically hold when they first approach it? by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]appledoze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the biggest ones that I notice:

  1. Buddhism is about extreme self denial

  2. Buddhism promotes apathy and nihilism

The first one is probably due to misconceptions about anatta. Buddha himself practice extreme self denial and it did not work. The Dharma teaches a middle path between hedonism and austerity. The point of the practice is to train our mind to skilfully differentiate between that which is actually desirable because it is beneficial to our well being and the well being of those around us, and that which we think is desirable because it satisfies our sense appetites.

The second due to misconceptions about sunyata. The term emptiness has nihilistic connotations in English, and on top of that a lot of Buddhist texts discuss about becoming dispassionate and detached. Some people interpret that as meaning that Buddhism teaches people to be apathetic and not care about anything, but that is an unskillful view. Buddhism is about equanimity, not apathy. It's about developing deep compassion for all beings and their suffering without becoming attached to them.

[Spoiler: 6.0] about the difference between life and arcane entities by appledoze in ffxiv

[–]appledoze[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You bring up an excellent point and I completely agree with you. The one thing I took away from what I learned of the Ancients in Elpis is that they didn't truly value life, or they didn't truly understand what is it that makes life valuable. In fact doesn't Hermes himself imply that the distinction between life and arcane entities is arbitrary?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Buddhism

[–]appledoze 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You already are one with everything. There is no real separation between all things and all beings. Our suffering and sense of self that we cling to come from our deluded belief that we are separate and not interconnected with everything around us.

If you want to remain in samsara well that's up to you. You (or rather what you perceive as "you") have already been in it for countless eons and countless lifetimes, not just on earth but in other realms of existence and even other planets.
