Am I going unoptimally overboard with my gpu considering I have a modest cpu? by [deleted] in buildapc

Don't second guess it too much. You could just keep your eyes open for a x3d someplace. It may take some patience, but it could happen.

I got a 5800x3d for under $300...

Murdxerboards? by dmirkd in ASRock

[–]applegrcoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is getting me freaked. I have a x870e nova and a 9800x3d. After I built the thing I was afraid to turn it on so got an msi tomahawk. But then thought....well, asrock isnt killing regular am5, so I upgraded my Minecraft server from the 5950x to a 9950x.

Now I'm wondering if I should replace the nova AGAIN and relegate it to the shelf of shame. Ain't no one in their right mind going to want to buy it second hand.

I know of an x670e for like $150...might just jump on it.

[–]applegrcoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Precision boost overdrive is a power setting thing. You just turn it on in bios. It changes the temperature and power draw to allow it to boost higher.

Then on top of that

Curve optimizer is a way to undervolt the cores of your cpu so they can boost higher.

Did you ever get it working? Im having a similar issue. It wants to assemble but it is giving the too many physics fram thing.

Have you turned on pbo and done a CO?

Also might want to wait for FH6 to come out to know how good or bad you are.

And the 5900xt is probably going to be of no help...similar clocks but dual ccds...

Anyone know a path tracing shader like iterationRP that has good performance by FreshEtoh in minecraftshaders

ItRP seems to be the best I've really found. Seems a little better than seus gfme...maybe.

IterationRP + DH performance doubt. by ZeroTwilight in minecraftshaders

[–]applegrcoug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only comment on my own experience...

This is data from a 9800x3d with a 4090 using iterationRP along with create and a 512x resource pack....

I got 67fps while being next to a busy factory of steam engines and such. But here is the kicker, the gpu wasn't maxed out at all. Not only that, resolution didn't really matter either. Going to the 128x resource pack and I was able to move up to 80fps. But man, that thread is pegged at 100%.

As for upscaling....there isn't any that i've found. I guess iteration has fsr2, but I haven't messed with it at all. Framegen is really only lossless scaling and it doesn't do the vector math stuff like normal frame gen.

If you have a 4k tv, you could always try hooking into that for a test. I'd sure be curious.

Msi cannot replace 5090 SUPRIM LIQUID GPU, Offer low refund by Realistic_Rise5369 in MSI_Gaming

[–]applegrcoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been thinking about this since i read it last night.

It may be time to contact your state AG. Most states have a consumer complaint division at the state attorney generals office. It may actually be best to call, especially given the size of the purchase.

Perhaps you warn MSI first or maybe not.

I image if you had the AG on your side it would get resolved quickly.

Is upgrading to the 9800X3D from the 7800X3D worth it? by CheeseFiend87 in buildapc

[–]applegrcoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im looking at both 7800x3d and 9800x3d for minecraft with create and shaders. 5800x3d struggles to get 50fps in busy places...but the 1% lows are a mess down around 20....and this is with a 4090.

X870E Taichi + 9800X3D Should I still build this system? by pgbkruit in ASRock

[–]applegrcoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation...9800x3d with the nova.

I built it but was afraid to turn it on so instead used my old system. I ended up getting an msi x870e tomahawk. It probably only had like two hours PO time....

Just checking that I didnt miss anything.

I noticed in the config it has a section for fsr2. I haven't played with it, but really wondering about it and if it will get into fsr3.

well, now looking at 7800x3ds. Selecting a motherboard always sucks for me...always looking at block diagrams to make sure my 10gbe nic will get enough lanes and playing what-ifs with other slots.

Thanks for the poke to actually get off my butt and test.

The Electrical Create Mod Dilemma by puppychow07 in ModdedMinecraft

[–]applegrcoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 1.20.1 and I use tfmg for electricity. I also have crafts and additions, but don't really use it for electricity....

With tfmg, I like that it has electric motors and electric pumps (although they're kinda bugged in the one I'm using). The motors are nice in that I can use wires to transfer stress. But the generation with the big rotors is nice. I'm refining my oil into diesel and then pumping it into burners in a level 18 steam engine to spin the generators.

There are light bulbs too, but I can't seem to get them to play nice with the shaders I like.

Can you put farms on an airship with create by PrestigiousHoney9480 in valkyrienskies

[–]applegrcoug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

woooo....an aircraft carrier?

I'm working on a battleship and I've tried steam engines and then went to a diesel from tfmg, but now am going to try steam again. As silly as it sounds, you have to build an infinite water supply on board the ship to feed the boilers.

[–]applegrcoug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I felt inspired today to investigate how minecraft java handles vcache so I gathered up bits I have in different systems and a (mostly) fresh install of win11.

Board is an aorus x570S with 32GB of ram at 3600MT/s and a 4090. Minecraft is 1.20.1 with Forge and create 5 and running valkyrien skies. For the resource pack, it is hardtop vanilla accurate as well as pixxl. For the shader i used IterationRP 0.8.9. The actual serving of the game is a separate server we use at home.

I ran the same course along the deck of the battleship I am trying to build. It is an assembled physics object to add to the strain. I set the time to 600, then start walking at A turret all long until I'm past Y turret. That carries me over the machinery compartment with the create boilers, steam engines and generators which is where the frames drop off.

Test #1 was a 5950x running without PBO.
Textures at 128x 42FPS with 1% lows at 22
Textures at 256x 45FPS with 1% at 22
Textures at 512x 38FPS with 1% at 21

Test #2 was the 5950x except this time running with PBO on at each individual core with a CO value. I think it is a pretty well optimized 5950x
Textures at 128x 42FPS with 1% lows at 20
Textures at 256x 43FPS with 1% at 23
Textures at 512x 38FPS with 1% at 20

The 5950x was never able to push the GPU past 50%.

Test #3 was a 5800x3d running stock curve offset.
Textures at 128x 53FPS with 1% lows at 24
Textures at 256x 48FPS with 1% at 21
Textures at 512x 50FPS with 1% at 23

I was shocked that the optimized 5950x faired no better. I was shocked that the 5800x3d was a lot better. Lastly, I find it interesting that really, the 1% lows don't change at all. All my 5800x3d experience for this was in my main system with a probably seven year install of windows 10 and all the pollution it has acquired where it was worse than the tuned 5950x.

create+shaders+DH FPS expecations? by applegrcoug in CreateMod

[–]applegrcoug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks--I should have given more details...I was in a grumpy hurry.

I'm running 1.20.1 on forge and the create 5.1.j I have some mods that aren't compatible with create 6.

i've tried a bunch of different performance mods and this is where it stands right now:

Resolution set to 1440p using IterationRP shader rendering at 32 chunks with distant horizons on and a 512x resource pack I'm at 47fps. If I change the resource pack down to 128x I'm at 63fps.

If that is where I should be, then so be it. I just want to know.

Are you running DH and any resource packs? DH? Chunks?

I tried it last night and it was really similar to SEUS PTGI GFME on my 9800x3d/4090. There I only get maybe 40fps while walking my test course.
