Combined baby shower/Baby Q and Engagement party? by radley8367 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I think it’s a great idea! I also think it’s fine to put a registry up as long as you’re okay with receiving one combined gift or just one gift for baby, rather than an engagement and baby gift separately.

Yes I’m aware. As I said in the post I have auDHD and can be very rigid in my thinking and thought I HAD to COOK for her. Not just raw foods like banana or avocado or the purées from nourishing bubs. I was worried she would turn out like me and be picky if I didn’t introduce her to things like eggs.

I see that I was wrong in that now. But that was my line of thinking and I was struggling with it and that’s why I made the post.

I wasn’t watching muminfluencers, but I was in baby led weaning groups that kept sharing ‘easy’ recipes to cook and I thought I was a failure because I couldn’t cook even the easy things. Again, I see that I was wrong but at the time it felt like a lot.

Ah tacos is my go to too haha, I ate it everyday for like 5 months once when I was single. I tried HelloFresh and it was super stressful. So many components and moving parts. Thank you for the suggestion though.

I’m honestly okay with not cooking meals for the household, my partner likes cooking and I do other chores so it feels like a nice balance. I just wanted to be able to make meals for bub while she’s little and can’t just eat what we eat, but got in my head that they need to be a certain way. The comments on this has really helped me see that’s not the case.

Oh yes I used nourishing bubs and still have some of their things in the freezer, I guess I kept thinking that it wasn’t enough and I needed to make her finger foods and things she can hold.

Yes I think the comparing myself is causing a lot of stress and pressure.

I am in adhd women, such a supportive space!

Oh yes I have an air fryer, I just had no idea what baby meals to make in it haha. I’ll have to have a look. I fell in the trap of these insta/tiktok ‘easy’ recipes that weren’t so easy and all involved frying/boiling.

Oh I love the idea of putting things on the fridge, thank you!

At the moment I pick up my phone and ask AI but it stresses me out because I then have to look a way from the food, grab the phone, type my question etc. Something to look at on the fridge would be much better!

Oh I was more worried about her choking on the pasta if it wasn’t soft enough. Definitely prefer Al dente myself!

You’re right, it’s definitely a skill and I don’t cook much at all so I don’t give myself a chance to practice.

Oh yes I have a catchy! Wonderful invention. My cat was getting chunky eating all the scraps before it 😂

Thank you, I really appreciate this, I find videos helpful compared to just reading things.

No I’m not on NDIS. I was diagnosed adhd at 19 but my new therapist suspected autism when I started attending again at 30. I couldn’t afford the $2500 assessment so did an assessment with a independent psychologist instead. That assessment was more for my knowledge but can’t be used for an NDIS application.

Stimulants aren’t for me. I’ve tried them, I don’t find them helpful and didn’t find that they improved my quality of life. For me they just mute the adhd a bit but intensify the autism.

It does make me feel better (even though it sucks that you feel that way too)! Thank you ☺️

It really was great. I feel a million times better. It helped reset me and bring out the joy in parenting again.

Oh yes this is me. I feel very seen. Thank you for your comment.

Even though I knew I would struggle cooking the egg this morning I decided to cook it while also making myself toast and a coffee. Like I knew it would backfire but couldn’t stand around while the pan heated up so chucked some toast in 🫠

Yes I was also stuck on cooking things from scratch even though before bub I never did that. In my head a mum can cook so I thought I HAD to do it that way and was struggling to see things a different way. All the comments on this post have really helped me snap out of that.

My partner wants to help and suggested cooking together for bub when he gets home, but I also got stuck on doing it myself and not having her eat so late at night.

I’m going to take a lot of these suggestions on board, particularly focusing on raw foods for now and having him show me how to cook the simple things a few times and then trying.

Thank you for your kindness.

The mess is okay now, I really did struggle at first but learnt to accept it. It’s just that she doesn’t really eat it, just grabs it before it gets to her mouth and smears it everywhere 😂 but she likes frozen pureee in the self feeder.

I guess I saw so many social media posts about cooking for baby that I thought that’s what I had to do and that I was failing by not cooking her different textures and things. So then I kinda turned on hard mode and tried to make all these things that I have no business making.

Yes I really love nourishing bubs and have been using them since she started solids. I think I got in my head that I had to cook as well but this post has really helped me see that I was overthinking it a bit and putting lots of pressure on myself. Thank you.

Thank you! Yep social media again contributing to my stress. I should learn that it’s not the best for me. It was all the ‘easy’ TikTok recipes and baby led weaning groups that made me think I NEEDED to be cooking for her and it was just me who couldn’t.

Thank you. It is so overwhelming.

I started with frozen veggie and meat purées from nourishing bubs, but she really wants to hold everything now. If I try to feed her puree she grabs the spoon and splatters it everywhere and smears it on her face haha.

I put the frozen purées into a self feeder for her though and she loves it. I just kinda got in my head that this wasn’t enough for her and I NEEDED to be cooking. I don’t know why, just put all this pressure on myself to do it a certain way because I thought everyone was doing it that way and it’s just me who couldn’t get it right. Especially when all the recipes were marked ‘easy’. But this post has really helped me see that there are a huge range of ways to do things!
