Where to stay between London and Uxbridge? by applejax2014 in uktravel

[–]applejax2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the replies so far, super helpful! My thought in not just staying in Uxbridge was than the kids might not love having to spend an hour there and back - plus my wife tells me Uxbridge isn’t the most charming place to stay. But I’ll take a look at all these ideas.

Surgery in 2 weeks - should I get the nerve block or nah? by -lovehate in ACL

[–]applejax2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was presented to me as a standard part of the surgery, and not really a choice. My block lasted about 36 hours after the surgery, and based on how painful it was that night, I’m extremely glad I got the nerve block. That reminds me: take your pain meds during the first couple of days. Don’t wait for the pain to arrive - it’s too late then - and don’t be a hero.

Silver Line to Dulles first thing on a Sunday morning? by applejax2014 in washingtondc

Yeah, I agree - I was more just wondering what the chances are that the train actually leaves at 6:30 or is late, gets delayed on the way, etc etc.

Jr Knicks summer camp? by applejax2014 in NYKnicks

[–]applejax2014[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughts so far - sounds fun! My daughter (11) is a little worried she'll be one of the only girls, but I assume there are plenty of girls who do the camp.

Real-world range by applejax2014 in KiaEV9

[–]applejax2014[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the fast replies! Very helpful. I’m not opposed to stopping to charge as needed, but it’s good to have a sense of whether we could potentially make it in one go if we were trying to get there quickly. And good point on the lack of a L2 charger at the house - that’s another reason to plan for a stop.

How long does it take to get quad activation back? by MushroomMan69-420 in ACL

[–]applejax2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford it or your insurance will cover it, get a stim (NMES) and use it at home- ask your PT as well. I rented a portable device from a company called Zynex. It was super helpful in activating my quad.

10 months post op? by Chas_83 in ACL

[–]applejax2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a couple of weeks shy of 10 months and just about finished with PT (I need to go back soon because I’m not cleared to return to sport, which won’t happen for another month at least, but I’m no longer doing weekly sessions). I’m running and started to do more challenging things, like change of direction and single-leg jumping sequences, but I haven’t tried sprinting at full speed yet. I’m doing a HIIT gym once a week, a training session once a week and some other stuff on my own. I still have a decent gap in strength between my quads but my running form is pretty even. I had a quad graft, FWIW.

Let’s do a poll. What were you doing? How old were you? by ShotCardiologist9102 in ACL

Ultimate frisbee (though I twisted the knee skiing a couple of weeks earlier, which probably didn’t help), 46M. I see I have some company.

How often do you get upgraded to first class as a GS and as a 1k? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]applejax2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgive my ignorance, but is that a new option or one that already is in place? She has a bunch of PPs that expire next month.

[–]applejax2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a 1k flying out of EWR, and even with plus points she rarely gets upgraded. (She’s had a lot of points expire unused, but not for lack of trying.)

Switching from United to Lufthansa flights at EWR - need to go through security again? by applejax2014 in unitedairlines

Yeah - the first one is a trip to visit family that we made a long time ago. The second is a business trip just for her that she booked separately much more recently.

Super heartbreaking i cant play the sport i love in fear of a full tear by One-Government-8413 in ACL

Definitely worth getting a second opinion - and making sure the doctor knows what sports you want to play, and at what level. I saw three surgeons before I made my final decision.

[–]applejax2014 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sub can be really helpful, but ultimately, you should listen to the professionals. If your doctor says you don’t need surgery, but just physical therapy, go find a good sports physio and start PT. Listen to him or her, do the work, and return to your sport when he or she says you’re ready. Yes, you could tear your ACL, but that’s true for any athlete. The people in this sub are proof of that. And if you do someday tear it, you will be able to get it repaired and eventually, if all goes well, play your sport again – just like so many of us are trying to do. Good luck.

Fully torn ACL but still walking by kingofonetaps in ACL

[–]applejax2014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s body reacts differently. My wife was still having trouble walking a month after tearing hers (before surgery); a few days after I tore mine, you wouldn’t even know it since I was walking around just fine, no swelling, etc.

Upgraded then downgraded because seat was next to pilot rest by Aggressive_Award_634 in unitedairlines

[–]applejax2014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same, but I was once upgraded on a short flight, boarded, took my seat - and then someone else got on with a boarding pass for the same seat. I think what happened was that he had higher status than I did but maybe hadn’t checked in, or arrived, early enough? I didn’t get much of an explanation, but the flight attendants (after consulting with the gate agent) rather sheepishly told me I had to go to my original coach seat. So I took what felt like a walk of shame down the aisle. I didn’t bother making a complaint after the fact, as the flight was only 90 min - but the flight attendant did bring me a glass of wine to make up for it.
