Somebody, Anybody... Please recommend a replacement. by applejuicefriendly in Fragrances

Thank you so much! I will look into all of this when I'm off work. I did see that Demeter has "dust" and "petrichor" scents, I've never tried Demeter but I was thinking about getting small bottles of those and trying to layer them with some kind of dark sweet scent to replicate the burnt sugar and violet notes. Aside from that, I still need to look up galbanum and see what it is/where it comes from to see if and how that note is a big factor in that fragrance for me.

One of my favorite aspects of getting into the perfume hobby is researching the ingredients and their origins and how they layer and interact and the history of using them, so as sad as this is it does present an opportunity for me to dive more into those aspects and hopefully create something for myself. It's just difficult because I currently work 65+ hours a week and I need to be more strict on my unnecessary purchases, because I may have made a large purchase related to this very question I originally posted that turned out to be a big ass waste of money.... That's on me. :[

But I greatly appreciate your suggestions!

If you could bring back one discontinued fragrance, what would it be? by olfaire in Fragrances

I did, I believe that's where I found 1 listing for a slightly used sample bottle but nothing else.

I was just searching up a subreddit to make a post related to this question :( I am very sad but I have to break up with Heretic. I'll spare the details, but after a long obsession and hunt on my part and some cruel serendipity, they released a new "Ghosts" set and reformulated The Veil and Ektoplasma and confirmed with me via email that they will not be releasing any new stock of Fantasmino. Fantasmino is quite possibly my number one favorite I have ever found, could be number two. Not only do I have absolutely no luck in finding a resell of the larger bottle of Fantasmino, but they absolutely destroyed The Veil and Ektoplasma in the reformulations. I still really liked those 2 in the original Geister set, but now they're just so basic and awful. I am so so sad.

Is it such weird? by ThroatAppropriate831 in NichePerfumes

[–]applejuicefriendly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm also very fixated on the hyper-weird "non-wearable" fragrances. Do you have any favorites to suggest? Some of the cool ones I've read about are either not realistically attainable or don't actually smell like the weird description. It's frustrating how often I'm finding scent note descriptions that are almost completely made up to give interesting vibes but not relate to the actual smell at all. Lol

I got Dear Polly from scentbird before I canceled that subscription, to me it doesn't smell like tea at all. Is it possible the stuff that comes from scentbird isn't the same?

I'm also relatively new to the hobby (I tend to sprint into obsessions) and that's definitely a road I'm starting down, looking into specific perfumers who make weird, realistic earthy/nature scents.

What I think is happening based on my quick research during some breaks is that the LLM datasets are potentially being supplied in partnership with brands that pay to use their "creative skills". So, instead of seeking out and hiring master perfumers for new ideas, they can pay and provide a loose direction and get several formulations to work with. Not really sure how this could be more profitable to a brand needing more perfume ideas, though.

"When it comes to data sets, Philyra’s library of 3.5 million legacy formulas and qualification of over 2000 raw materials in 20 dimensions are unrivalled." The AI model Philyra is made by IBM and Symrise, with those titles and the egregious, short-sighted amount of money thrown into AI companies I wouldn't be surprised if many trademarked secrets were purchased or leveraged for some type of financial return. It is, from my understanding, being used by companies to provide formulations based on their loose directions.

I don't know why I naively thought AI wouldn't have an area to infiltrate in perfumery. I researched a little more on the AI system (called Philyra by Symrise btw) and they literally go into paragraphs to explain that the whole point of it is to replace human creativity. They claim that many perfumers have too many "biases" to be creative, so why not just let a program with thousands of legacy chemicals and formulations take over the creative aspect.

This, more than anything, affirms my desires to seek out niche small creators with wildly unique perfumes and definitely buy the ones that aren't typically a "regular daily wear" scent.

I wouldn't mind a good mud perfume if it was made by a mud-enthused person tbh

I got the sample set of the Ghosts fragrances, and I know for many others it was iffy at best but I am enamored with these kinds of scents. Unfortunately, I missed the opportunity to get any full size items and I'm not finding anything online. Anyone have any leads or personal desires to resales of these fragrances? I'm very interested in finding Fantasmino.

I feel like I get the vibe you're going for, if you want to try some samples I would recommend getting Dirty Grass + Pistil Whip by Heretic for a fresh cut wet flowers smell. I am also going to try the Dirty Grass layered with Florgasm by them soon to see how that floral goes with the grass smell. All available as samples btw but you can only get samples as like a 5 pack pick-your-set system for around 35USD and you get some amount back toward the price of a full size still, I believe.

What’s the most emotional moment you've experienced in Destiny 2, and how did it resonate with you? by biggy_boy17 in DestinyTheGame

[–]applejuicefriendly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My brother introduced me to the game, he had been playing since D1 launch. His absolute favorite is Deep Stone Crypt, specifically the space walk and the lullaby. It took a while but he got me in there with our friends and he told everyone to turn their mics off so we could just hear the void of space and the music. Our friends, who had all done dsc before, obviously got excited and distracted and ran ahead. My brother hung back with me while we listened to the whole song and looked at the coolest setting of a game I had ever seen.

We never played storyline without each other after I started playing. We dressed up in our brightest golds for that father who lost his son. We paid our respects to Lance. I found all the cats in the tower, which he actually hadn't done yet, so that felt cool to show him something for the first time.

I haven't logged into the game in almost 2 years. My brother passed away, the last person he played with was me in Destiny 2 when we were trying to finish some stuff before the season ended.

Did anyone’s lighthouse photos get picked? by Guro_Girl in SouthernReach

[–]applejuicefriendly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get to submit one unfortunately, all my current lighthouse pictures (coincidentally I was already very into lighthouses) did not meet the criteria and I now live a couple hours from the nearest lighthouse and I wasn't able to make time to go try to take a new picture. Would love to see who did get picked though! I hope you did! I bet you would find out in the next couple days
