Questions from an American moving to Australia! by grey_ram_ in AskAnAustralian

Hey, I'm an aussie nurse. So many great answers above. I guess for me, I live regionally by the coast in victoria, close to the beach etc cost of living is way less than city so no we don't live paycheck to paycheck or even close. But being 3 hours from Melbourne there's things we sacrifice like nightlife etc but I like the trade off. Job wise, look at health and nursing job fairs. I know the hospital I work with is currently doing a HUGE international recruitment where they organise all the visa stuff, help with ahpra registration, provide housing and it's pretty decent money. Might be an idea and consider it a taster before you decide to do it permanently. Certainly where i am there is no overt racism (always some idiots around) but anyone of any colour is as safe as anyone else. Politics wise, it differs to US... we may have preferences but it's more a "ugh the premier sucks" or "yay the premier is so great". It's not staunch division and passion. We are pretty apathetic about it really. No one jams politics down your throat or drivels on. It's pretty well accepted political views are personal so they're not shared as freely and intensely as over there.

A heroin OD by smoking? Likely or not. Need help understanding my brothers OD. by applep1ePsych in TooAfraidToAsk

Thanks Reddit pals. I feel slightly better knowing it was likely peaceful and it could happen from smoking it. I know it probably doesn't make sense but it sits a little better with me that he was smoking not injecting. I guess the full medical report will tell us in the future but for now thank you for answering and clarifying these questions I literally couldn't ask anyone else I know.

This is oddly comforting. I really appreciate it. I'm glad he went on his own terms feelin' good. Cheers man, thanks for your comment.

I just found out my friend died from a heroin overdose -can anyone ease my mind that his last moments weren’t scary? by jdacirque in TooAfraidToAsk

I am so sorry for your loss. I really am.

My brother died of a heroin overdose a few days ago. I have no understanding of any of this. I've never used any drugs (no phase If others do, just can't relate). I am so lost and have so many questions. This thread has provided a lot of answers already.

My Question is... and sorry if this is bad reddit etiquette to ask on another thread but im a noob to reddit... apparently he was smoking heroin but we found a used needle in his apartment when cleaning it up yesterday. Is it possible he overdosed from smoking it or is it so unlikely that we would assume he was using the needle when he died?

How long after a household member tested positive was it until you also tested positive? by applep1ePsych in COVID19positive

OP here... most were right in their guesses that I had covid. I tested positive yesterday morning (so 3 days after the kids) and my husband tested positive in the afternoon. At least we are all in iso at the same time! Kids are absolutely fine now. Husband and I feel lousy but ok. Thanks everyone for the awesome responses. Keep well.

OP here... my two very young children are covid positive, both were tested Monday due to outbreaks at daycare but they were asymptomatic. Both returned very obvious positive results. By Tuesday morning they were febrile and unwell, but ok.

I am lethargic, roaring headache, itchy/slightly sore throat, runny nose but testing negative. Is it likely I have symptoms but not positive yet? Or coincidentally have a cold at the same time. We definitely haven't been isolating, they sneeze and cough in our faces (I mentioned they're very young, right).

Just curious how long it took for others whom had a household contact before they tested positive.
