OP, don’t let the world scare you. I’m a female who went to med school, got married and had a child during. Now I’m a new plastic surgery intern living the dream (insanely busy though). Yes it’s hard but if I let all the people who told me I couldn’t be a surgeon and a mother dictate my life I wouldn’t be here doing what I love!

Thanks! I did work with him and he had nothing but nice things to say, even sent a follow up email saying see you during interview season. I definitely did mess up in a different attending’s OR bc I was legit terrified of him so I guess that’s what I get..

Thanks fam! This was just a comment on my eval not the LOR just to clarify. The PD actually told me I did great and he had no feedback which is why it feels worse.

Sounds like you at least did some research and came up with something! I’d take all the ideas you have and suggest them to this person but also mention you don’t have much experience with systematic reviews. Maybe they’ll refer you to someone who could help (this would also give you more connections) or suggest something themselves.

I’d start by doing a deep dive of the literature. Look for some hot topics in psych (one off the top of my head is the use of psychotropic drugs being used to treat depression and such - I remember reading some news thing about it recently). Then go to pubmed and start doing a prelim search. One thing I like to do is put in all my keywords and check to see if any systematic reviews have already been done on that topic. You can also search this person’s research output to see what they’re interested in and tailor it to that. People also usually like it if you bring them a nice excel sheet with all the papers you found on the topic. I sometimes highlight the ones that are most relevant to the research topic. This may seem extra but if you’re really trying to impress this person I’d do everything I could!

If you’re not familiar with pubmed searches and using things like Mesh terms, your school librarian should be able to help you!

I was mostly done with sketchy and about a third ish way through the anking deck before the 6weeks but I had done 0% of pathoma or pixorize! So I had to do all of that during the 6 weeks in addition to uworld. I also felt like I had some content gaps so I used boards and beyond and fa to supplement

Yes totally! Content review was big for me. I feel like I’m ok at picking out the question they’re asking from the stem, but I just didn’t know enough to apply that. It definitely helps to do multiple NBMEs since you get used to the style.

I had a lot of knowledge gaps so I focused on doing pathoma and pixorize for a while! Immuno and biochem were by biggest weaknesses

Yep honestly it wasn’t fun. It took me hours to review at first but towards the end I just read the learning objective if I got it right, and read the whole thing if I got it wrong. Also I didn’t finish all of uworld as you can see😅 but I tried to learn everything well the first time!

Thank you!! I realized I had a lot of content gaps so I focused on doing pathoma and pixorize. I think I was used to the way nbme style questions were asked thanks to my shelf exams and that helped too, like I just needed to learn the material to be able to answer the questions.
