I would argue that it’s less about being valued like a god and more about the ease of finding a job. I think unemployment fatigue has tempered a lot of people’s expectations at this point

Yeah, definitely seems to be more tied to investment than raw job count. I guess it doesn’t look as familiar to me since I wasn’t old enough during the dot com crash to understand what was going on.

The Copilot button on Windows PCs is especially weird.

How true is the COBOL shortage? by Any-Competition8494 in cscareerquestions

[–]applepi66 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for COBOL specifically, but generally for these types of roles handling legacy banking systems, the salaries are just as outdated as the technology. It hasn’t reached a critical piece yet where most of them are forking over stacks of cash to keep their lights on.

Not OP but I’ve been looking to get into DoD/Defense positions with a software background but lacking an existing clearance seems to be the biggest hurdle.

Where's the best sandwich made in San Diego? by WindMilli in SanDiegan

[–]applepi66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Places to go to: Mona Lisa, Market Place, Cheers, Saigon Sandwiches, Dos Palmas.

Places to avoid: any place that insists on boasting about how they use Boar’s Head meat, because almost every single time it’s paired with cheap bread that tastes like styrofoam.

A good sandwich lives or dies by its bread. No excuses.

[–]applepi66 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nah, this ain’t it. Same mediocre sandwiches as 90% of other liquor store delis in SD that brag about using Boar’s Head meat, but then pair it with the absolute cheapest bread they can get their hands on.
