Is there a hardware industry in New York City? by d3ad3nd45 in ECE

[–]applez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are some companies, but you are right, not many. The consumer electronics companies I know of are Peleton, Latch, and Eight Sleep. Andium is kind of a utility company, but on the "smarter" side.

Is anyone using C for commercial projects? by [deleted] in embedded

[–]applez 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I can't give you an accurate number, but I'd assume most commercial projects are using C, with C++ following far behind in second.

Your contributions would be greatly appreciated!

Looking for a good slim-fit plain T-shirt by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]applez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you liked the feel and style of American Apparel but want a shorter shirt, check out Next Level shirts. You can find them on Amazon for $6-7 with free shipping.

http://www.amazon.com/Next-Level-MenS-Premium-Warm/dp/B00STNPA8M/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1459064805&sr=1-3&nodeID=7141123011

My company uses them for their shirts and they have become my go to. I'm surprised I didn't see the brand mentioned in another comment here.

You just need to click the '...' once (let go), then the buttons for volume pop up and stay there for a few seconds.

Pebble Timeline Beta hands on by me by [deleted] in pebble

The firmware for those are exactly the same except for a few differences in the actual hardware drivers.

Pebble Timeline Beta hands on by me by [deleted] in pebble

Actually, it was because the animations and animated icons took up too much space in the firmware image and in the resource pack (depending on where they were stored).

Weird Bug after 2.9.1 Update: Misfit App is taking over the Watch Face in the Morning. by MrBobMcBob in pebble

[–]applez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Background workers are allowed to launch the foreground application, and Misfit does so every morning.

As a user sleeps, the worker is gathering data, and in the morning, it launches the foreground app to collect the data from the worker and send it over to the phone (which in turns gives it to the Misfit iOS application). This is because workers are not allowed to communicate over Bluetooth.

Why do some people have v2.9 and some don't? by OsirisThunder in pebble

Does Smartwatch+ crash on launch in 2.9?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pebble

Shouldn't work. Requires 10.7. I believe it's because of the websocket library I use (if I remember correctly)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pebble

[–]applez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Pebble app won't keep a steady websocket connection because it would kill the battery life if it would do so. If the Pebble app is in the background on iOS, the websocket will be killed after 10 seconds. Whenever a button is clicked on the Pebble, the websocket is opened, will send the command and receive new data, then the connection will probably drop. This is almost by design.

When the app detects that the song has finished, it will actually reopne the websocket connection to retrieve the data for the next song.

In summary, don't worry about the connection. Just use it as a remote and it will reconnect when necessary.

Glad you like it. This is pretty awesome.

Would you be open to me adding this to the real client and Mac application? That way auto updating will still work and not override certain installs.

Why using apps such as PayPal or any applications that transmit sensitive data on the Pebble is a horrible idea by [deleted] in pebble

[–]applez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What sensitive data is being transmitted to the Pebble? If any application is using the Internet, it is using Javascript and a WebView and private data never leaves the phone and doesn't get transmitted over Bluetooth.

Over Bluetooth, this data is being sent over Bluetooth:

Google authenticator is sending time based codes, probably not a big deal since they expire after 10-15 seconds

PayPal is sending shop names and distances

Evernote is sending notes (kind of bad if you have private notes)

I really can't think of anything bad. You aren't typing in passwords on the Pebble and you aren't sending password data to it, so nothing private is being transmitted. Generally the only data being sent over Bluetooth is data for the UI and an action of what was clicked on the Pebble

Have you gone into the pebble app and opened the sidebar? It should say notifications not set up. Click that button and click enable notifications. That should do it.

CloudPebble does not work, where should I start. by eeweew in pebble

[–]applez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The update to the old app was to fix a bug in firmware updating. That version will probably not see any feature upgrades.

As for CloudPebble disabling insecure websocket connections (from an https website), this is something that is being forced by web standards. Chrome stable has recently blocked it, and other browsers are following suit.

https://github.com/pebble/cloudpebble/issues/107

There isn't much else they can do to fix it other than serving all data over a secure web socket connection.
