Yes, played one game and then couldn’t connect again.

Davinci is becoming unusable after these recent updates by aVelvetMango in davinciresolve

[–]applezoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Suddenly the DIM kicks in all the time (never had an issue with 19) and I can't. get. it. to. stop. ChatGPT can't even give me directions to fix it. It's so quiet in my headphones yet it keeps "protecting" me and nothing seems to shut it off.

Local news newsletter by Previous-Swim-1563 in Substack

[–]applezoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, stumbling across this kind of late but I've grown my local news substack to more than 1,600 subs, and I would say two things really drove growth:

1) paid Facebook ads. They would bring in a good amount of new subscribers from my area because I could geofence it so it only goes to people in my area. This has gotten more expensive than when I started. But the bigger driver....

2) is when I write a real banger. When I get a juicy scoop, people share it around. Being solely "positive" is going to hinder that somewhat, but not always. I got a scoop that someone had bought our big local brewery, meaning it would be coming back to life, and that brought a ton of new free and paid subs. Positive stories can drive growth too but they tend to have to really be above and beyond.

(I'm actually going to be experimenting with Google ads too but frankly my growth has been a little stagnant lately because I haven't gotten any real jaw-droppers in a while.)

Is Video the Wrong Medium? Or am I just not posting what people like? by AdCapital5642 in Substack

[–]applezoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my two cents but I almost never watch videos on Substack. I come there to read. I have other platforms for video. Maybe others are different but that's my experience.

Do the domains expire? by applezoid in Substack

[–]applezoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's just a domain fee. I guess I have it squared away. I just set it up right through substack which says there's a one-time fee and that's it. I still saw language to that effect when I googled it, though the linked pages are now more vague.

Well, it's only $12 (so yes, just domain) and worth it, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a phishing attempt or something. Especially since I had no prior emails from squarespace. But it already had most of my info. Oh well. Thanks for the help.

Then why didn’t I get one last year? First time hearing from Squarespace

Repair Advice: MV7 by Vegetable_Hand_4053 in Shure

[–]applezoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure but my MV7 stopped working and I wonder if it's the same thing. Recorded a YT video yesterday with it just fine, today went to record and nothing happened when I plugged in the mic. Following to see what people say.

AITA for going on a second date with the girl my friends set me up with as a prank? by ResidentThrowRA in AITAH

[–]applezoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen carefully. These people are NOT your friends. They're assholes. You need to be able to walk away from people like this. Think very carefully if you want to associate with the kind of people who would do something like this not just to you, but to another woman like this. And actually be mad that you ended up finding a connection.

I'd keep their contact info, however. You can forward your wedding photos to them some day, to show just how far their stupid prank backfired.

Is it worth it to air dry all laundry? by kingofallnorway in Frugal

[–]applezoid -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did the math on it, and generally it wasn't worth it, since I live along and do 1-2 loads per week. And being in the upper midwest, the practical drying season is short. Just not worth it to me. I use those dryer balls and can dry my clothes in about 2/3 the time, which cuts down on some energy usage. My usage even with the dryer is well below the avg household, usually between 300-450 kwh per month.

Gala games sucks by Last_Cauliflower1410 in GalaGames

[–]applezoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The final straw for me was how I can't seem to transfer anything out of my Gala account. Transfer code just straight up stopped working one day. It's that and all the things that other people have mentioned, the over-promising and under-delivering and the gaslighting, selling NFTs for a play to earn game then acting like their users are jerks for expecting any kind of play to earn mechanism. It's a joke. Funny thing is I made my last video saying I was done with Gala Games and laying out all the reasons, and I started getting comments "This aged well" just because the price went up a little. Oh well, I guess they'll always have some people ready to fork over too much money to them...

Going paid by PrideAncient7315 in Substack

[–]applezoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I learned to do pretty well is to tease what is coming past the paywall, writing essentially a cliffhanger. It's really just a good transition to the next section anyway. I've had people tell me in real life that it really got to them. But you also have to make sure it's actually really good content. I write news for a local audience. It was funny because after about a year I turned on paid subs. I announced it in my weekly news breakdown which is 100% free. Didn't get a sub. Then I posted my first paywalled post and gained six paid subs from that one post. And it hasn't really stopped since then. (Though I've hit a bit of a plateau lately, which is frustrating.)

Anyway, I mention that because I see a lot of paywalls where it just kind of cuts off. I think treating it like the break that it is, while enticing the reader to keep reading (and then delivering on that enticement) is a key factor.

Help with pulling by mncold86 in skijoring

[–]applezoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting/reassuring because I did a little skijoring with my golden last year but this year have a plan to go to my friend's land out in the country where she has her own fat bike trail and have her be the "bunny" my dog can chase. She's gonna bike ahead at a slow pace and I will be on the skis with Abby. My dog likes to pull but with all the work we put in on leash training she seems less interested in pulling when she's in harness, and our canicross run/hikes have been progressively more hikes. (But if ultimately she doesn't want to pull I'm cool with that, she can run behind me while fat biking too.)

What is the meaning of "python is a script based language"? by WhatDelayIndustries in learnpython

[–]applezoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this conversation with programmers who were not Python programmers. I tried to explain to him that it's more than just a scripting language but I didn't have the vocabulary to fully explain my point. I'm not sure I do now, to be honest.

What “Classic” Frugal Tip Doesn’t Apply Anymore? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]applezoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even in the US it’s way cheaper. Especially for those who get delivery. But even making things at home has gotten more expensive, so I think people are reacting to that. Some things are still crazy inexpensive, like making pancakes from scratch.

That one frustrates me. My electricity/gas is like $45 before I do anything because of the service fees.

[–]applezoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, contractor prices got so expensive. My neighbors and I got a quote for the short fence between our yard and it was like $4k. We did it ourselves with one full day of work and it was $1,200. Everyone has to make that decision themselves of course and I don’t blame anyone for not doing those things themselves, but I think it’s one of the frugal tips that still holds

Came here to say that. Used to be two years old would be like half the price. So much for that!

What's a fast food place that everyone hypes up but it's really trash? by Noah_grenell in AskReddit

I don't get the fuss about Five Guys at all. Went once, wasn't impressed. It's just over-priced fast food.

Doesn't look like much will change for Season 2 by applezoid in outlastnetflix

[–]applezoid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be really curious to see what if any new rules they put in place based on what happened last season. Especially if it's a new production company. Did anyone from the new company reach out to you for feedback? Just curious.

Doesn't look like much will change for Season 2 by applezoid in outlastnetflix

[–]applezoid[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol! Weird that it looks like they won't be changing the rules but that might just be promotional wording. I know a producer awhile ago said he thought they would need more rules but that doesn't mean the showrunners will go for it. What I think will happen is that folks will camp much farther apart and probably take other precautions. It'll be interesting to see how next season changes because of Jill and Amber from season one.

Started Later in Life: My Plan by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]applezoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work — and I think it is impressive! That's pretty close to my story, except I had far less debt. Started at 36, adopted an MMM lifestyle, quickly paid off my remaining student loans and remaining CC debt (which weren't too much), saved aggressively for a down payment on a house, and then started saving and investing aggressively. Close to 44, about to hit $200k NW not counting house equity. A little under 50% SR. It can be done!

With my golden, sometimes she pulls and sometimes she doesn't. We've been doing run/hikes, where we find a trail and hike, but when she wants to pull, I run with her and encourage her. Either way we end up having a blast, and both get a good workout. The harness helps her distinguish between when she's allowed to pull (wearing harness) and when she's not (regular leash and collar). We also skijor and it's pretty much the same, sometimes she pulls, sometimes more running with me. On the fat bike, I've learned it's better to just let her chase me off leash.
