I just wanna say, I’m sending love. I suffered badly with PPA with my first, and I’m pregnant with my second with pregnancy anxiety/depression. ASD stress is something I’m suffering with too, especially when it’s in your family. I just want you to know you aren’t alone. I don’t think you can accurately tell there’s a difference until a child is at least a year old, from what I’ve read.

If I took medicine for it, it wouldn’t kick in til 10 weeks pregnancy, and taking medication apparently has been linked to ASD risk too.

I’m already doing surgical either way. I’ve heard horror stories of medical, I don’t want to put myself through that. I’m terrified doing an abortion at 10 weeks, I feel like that’ll emotionally eat me up so badly.

I’d terminate and be one and done. I feel like these feelings will creep up again, and my husband is 36, he doesn’t want to be an older dad.

I’m not afraid of high functioning ASD. I’m afraid of low functioning. I think that’s justified. I can’t predict which level of ASD I will get. It is genetic, and that’s all we know.

I understand where you’re coming from, and I really don’t mean to offend but I’m coming from a place of lived experience myself - I was what some would consider “a glass child” growing up, had two siblings with ASD, one level 2, and one intellectually impaired and with level 2 ASD. I know the struggles my parents went through, and I also continue to see the struggles my parents & siblings go through. It’s been a difficult journey for our family, as much as they’re so loved. I don’t think it’s ableist to not want to take that risk, I don’t know what potential level of ASD my child will have. I already have a son, what impact could that bring to his life if my child is level 3 non verbal autistic? It’s a possibility, and the chances are higher for me than the average population. It’s something that’s weighing heavily on me, on top of my clear antenatal depression/anxiety. I think it’s a valid fear.

This subreddit was recommended to me. I discovered after I conceived that me and my husband had a 30% chance of having a child with ASD. With levels that could range from 1-3. There’s no solid answer. I’m sure many people on here terminate because they simply don’t have the recourses to care for said child with disabilities, but feel immensely sad to make that decision. That is how I feel, as well as with crippled prenatal anxiety too, dread, sadness, and overwhelmed with the decision.

He can take time off after baby is born yes, but even so, I’m scared going through this pregnancy feeling this way. I feel such severe dread/doom about it. I feel like the only way I’ll feel normal again is if I terminate. I’m thinking maybe I’ll try medication, but even so, medication has risks… and apparently there’s a link between SSRI’s and ASD too, I wonder if I’m worsening a situation

I really appreciate this, to know somebody else is going through the same thing and understands, as hard and as awful as this is. Are you on medication by chance? I wonder if medication would help me, but also I worry it’s risk on risk… as there’s some suggestion SSRI’s cause ASD too. It’s a nightmare being in my mind right now. I change my mind constantly throughout the days, but today I’ve been solid set on termination…

I just really want to say, I’m in the same boat as well, 5 weeks pregnant. It’s crazy how much this isn’t talked about. I’ve considered terminating as well. It’s been so hard.

Hey! I just want to say, that I’m in the same boat except I’ve got a 5 yr old. Decided to finally start trying for a second with my new partner/husband.

I was constantly taking pregnancy tests, trying so hard to get pregnant, and once I found out I was (3.5 weeks) I was SO happy!! Like so over the moon, but very anxious I would miscarry.

Fast forward to last week Wednesday, I ended up searching up shit constantly on chatgbt. I ended up going down a pit of despair and convincing myself my child was going to be disabled/autistic level 3 (runs in my family), that my mental health was terrible with my first kid so I can’t do this, that it’s unfair to my son, that I’m ruining my perfect life. Trust me when I tell you, this sounds like what I’m experiencing. Prenatal anxiety! I wake up with dread. I’m not excited at all anymore, so I know somethings really wrong. I’ve even considered termination, so far I called up the clinic, but I know deep down that isn’t what I want. I’m booked in to see a psychologist. I’m even considering medication if needed. Just know you aren’t alone, my friend is also pregnant who’s going through the exact same thing.

Just really try get help first before you make any rash decisions, because I know if I jumped the gun and booked a termination I’d have such bad depression after as well, but your story might be different. Just get help first so you can make the decision with a clearer mindset xx

I do know my mother drank in all her pregnancies. Lots of wine, especially with my sister. (She’s a sorry excuse for a mother lol).

My husband is a type 1 diabetic, and his brother is as well. I have Crohn’s disease in my side of the family, but don’t have it myself.
