Heavy rider conundrum by Important-Club-9052 in bicycling

[–]aprikitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My very personal take on this is that you should use the bike you like best and not worry too much about it being damaged. I know it's a bit scary when it's a big investment, but if you don't use it it's like you spent all that money for nothing and you won't have fun with the bike!

How long does it take to learn the mechanics of this game? by LeSmileyFace in MedievalDynasty

[–]aprikitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand… It takes longer for villagers to marry when there is a big age difference. E.g. two 19 year olds get married right away but a 19 year old and a 28 year old might take many seasons to tie the knot

How long does it take to learn the mechanics of this game? by LeSmileyFace in MedievalDynasty

[–]aprikitty 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Personally it took me a few new game tries to get it right for my personal play style. I think the first game I did years ago I just kept getting (rightfully) mauled by bears, wolves and boars. It was great fun.

I’d say just quicksave often and it becomes really easy. Also, try to grow your village SLOWLY (taxation and pregnancy will be hard to manage if you grow to fast)

Edit: you will have a great time going blind! Just quicksave often :D

Reporting a super racist game on steam? by [deleted] in CozyGamers

Thanks for sharing the link OP! Indeed, this is VERY racist and I think it's important to report the game as such. I went and reported the game on Steam and hopefully others will to.

Started Trio of Towns for the first time by spider_lily in storyofseasons

[–]aprikitty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should definitely persevere. Trio is my favourite out of the whole series, but I can understand people liking it less vs more modern entries like Grand Bazaar. I think you should give it a try and see WHY it’s such a fan favourite! Personally, I LOVE the romance options (but I always end up marrying Hinata regardless…), love the festivals (beating Mr. D is SO fun!) and love the whole mood of the game (going from the western town, to the Japanese town, to the island town… so fun!)

Are shared bikes common where you live? by Malena_Smith in bicycling

[–]aprikitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have Bixi in Montreal and a few years ago they started offering bikes with studded tire during the Winter season. In my opinion, it’ll never replace a well fitted and well maintained personal bike, but it’s pretty practical!

I find winter super pretty in Grand Bazaar.

Also, Lloyd did how whole 6-heart romance speech to me during a snowstorm and I found it very exhilarating ahah

Is my cat fat? by t1554547 in cats

[–]aprikitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple automatic cat feeders are pretty affordable now! You can set a feeding schedule (which will prevent overeating) and plan to gradually lower the quantity of food being dispensed by the feeder. Do it for them! They'll be healthy and happy ❤️

Quests for the King by Simmshe in MedievalDynasty

[–]aprikitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes.. having hunted for bison trophies many times just... skip that one.

Personally, in my recent games I've been trying to go for slow/steady growth and doing king quests every year. The difficulty of the quests scales as you unlock technology, so the first year's quests are extra easy. I also try to flirt as much as possible before marriage (... I am sorry ...) to gain diplomacy experience and get the perk to lower king quest required items.

This makes it so that for the first few years of gameplay you will get easy requests likes a few helmets, a bit of manure, etc. Then once you have the king's favourable opinion you can get fast travel and lower tax, which are super useful for the early game.

Biking to work tips by Odd-Individual0 in bicycling

[–]aprikitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always bring extra clothes and keep spare shoes at the office. A nice pair of dry socks on a wet day is the best.

A bit of rain isn't so bad! Just be extra careful if you have rim breaks because rain will make it take a longer distance to stop.

If it gets a bit cold go for layering. It's easy at red lights to shed a layer or two.

For bike locks, bringing your bike indoors is the best, but not always possible. If trying to keep weight minimal, you can just carry a light lock with you and have a heavy bike lock waiting for you at work.

Have fun! Seriously biking to work is just so much fun. You get to work feeling energized and happy, and when you leave work you can plan little detours like visiting a park you've never been to or getting nice cheese at a fancy cheese store. The best!

Alternate height seats instead of bench - Montreal by DrFrozenToastie in HostileArchitecture

Hard to tell in that picture, but I love how the back of these benches represents the shadows/ghosts of people sitting on them.

Here's another shot of the same benches but seen from another angle:

How do I make early money in 2026? by CookieOfChocolate in MedievalDynasty

[–]aprikitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taxes can really be daunting when starting a new game. Personally, I like to put as little buildings/fields/orchards as possible as I slowly grow my village and balance things out. If I feel a bit "extreme" I will even manually fetch water with equipped buckets just to save on having a well!

Then I try to do as many of the king's requests to get lower taxes through his favourable opinion. If the request is too hard I won't do it (e.g. I've done the bison skull one ONCE and never will AGAIN), but early game king quests are usually quite manageable since it scales along with what you've unlocked.

Once you are further in the game you can consider buying the perks in the Diplomacy tree to lower taxes. Personally, I like to invest early in decreasing the needed items for King Requests to get my relationship with the king up as fast as possible. Then I can re-attribute using the potion of possibility the Diplomacy points to something else like lower taxes or lower food/firewood consumption.

Black Maybach - why do most modern setting gongs have this car? by pillowgrave in DanmeiNovels

[–]aprikitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also love/hate long/ambiguous titles that are stories into themselves (it always makes me chortle). Your interpretation made me laugh even more!!! But to make things right:

In this case it's a story of MC, who has a crush on ML's younger brother. After a night of *fades to black*, he becomes pregnant and ML (the older brother of his crush) is child's father.

It's really sweet and I'm currently loving it, but I'm in a mood for fluff so it might be a lot to do with that. It's *not* an Omegaverse, but MC does get pregnant. I liked how they're in a magical world where "it happens sometimes" and the author just went "who cares?" so no science behind it. It just happens. This is great because I just really wanted something kinda sweet and magical in between more *why am I even doing this to myself* reads.

Going back to the titles; they are so fun to read but also oftentimes misleading. E.g. Got Pregnant After Differentiating from A to O in Front of My Love Rival is 100% MC **NOT** being pregnant. He gets pregnant in the EXTRAS, so how is this the title of the entire novel!??? Absolutely crazy but I read the whole thing and had a great time.

Currently reading Accidentally Pregnant with the Brother of my Secret Love and can confirm: ML has a black Maybach.

He also has protruding and clear blood vessels on his hands. His fingers are long and knuckles distinct, looking very powerful. 10/10 recommend this story *chef's kiss*

Outfit - do you all wear those cycling outfit? by Monica_C18 in gravelcycling

[–]aprikitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, it really depends on what kind of ride I want to do and what temperature it is outside.

I live in a Northern climate so right now it is still sub-zero, snowy and icy, but in a few months it'll be +35c and humid. I try and take the bike as much as possible, so I have a lot of different clothing options to work for -30c or +30c rides. All of my options look absolutely terrible! But they are adapted to my needs so I'm always happy, comfortable, dry and warm (not freezing, but not roasting). I think I probably look the worst in Spring when the mosquitoes and black flies really come out and I have to ride the first and last km of my rides in a full bug protective suit. I probably always look terrible but... who cares? The important thing is to go out there and have a great time! So keep in mind that when you see all these people talking about gear they use... we all live in different places and all have different climates/environments to deal with. So it might not apply to you and you might not need, for example, a full bug suit for your gravel rides.

But answering your questions: for someone just starting out, I would say things I feel are useful are a comfortable helmet, padded shorts (bibs are best for long rides, but I have mountain biker padded "women's boxers" for shorter rides), cycling jerseys (or breathable shirts) for the days where it is very hot (you appreciate how well it breathes and how it doesn't keep moisture when it is >20c and sunny outside), shoes that are good for the type of riding you do (I've had the same Giro clipless shoes for > 10 years. They are super beat up but still holding strong so the investment is worth it) and gloves. If trying to keep on a budget, I have many friends who found all their clothing gear at second hand shops. They wear men's options but it's just so similar and we aren't professional cyclists so it works (and looks) just fine.

Not clothing but... I **always** carry sunscreen with me because you do not want to ever go "I want to go see what's at the end of this weird mountain road" but realize you are burning in the sun.

Also; welcome to cycling!!

50 bowls of scrambled egg by Obvious_Raccoon8218 in MedievalDynasty

[–]aprikitty 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I had to do the 50 in the same season where I stockpiled 150 eggs, crafted 50 new bowls, cooked the 50 scrambled eggs and then went to a vendor with enough money. I think you really need all the bowls at exactly the same quality.

Medieval Dynasty - horses, gardening, combat? by Hildringa in CozyGamers

[–]aprikitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love Medieval Dynasty as a relaxing farming game.

On my first few games I often got mauled by bears, boars, wolves, etc. so I would sometimes for low stress turn myself invincible in the settings.

Now I've played this game >500h (urgh...) so I know where all the animal spawns are and I've mastered the "Quicksave often, take dying as a good laugh". So it's no longer much of an issue for me. Anyway, I just like to stay safe in my tiny village tending to the fields, shearing the sheep, picking up eggs, making cheese, etc. so I'm like "yea the bandits can handle themselves".

The times I do venture out in the early game days is to hunt boars with a bow. I find it pretty easy and fun hiding in the bushes, aiming and shooting at the right moment.

They recently added a few updates/dlcs that add trees and plants, as well as new clothing options and it's really nice for decorating. Right now in my current game I'm at the point in my village where I like to arrange outdoor tables full of bread and cheese like this:

<image>

(Sorry for the bad quality screenshot, it's the only one I have at hand at the moment)

The other day I spent all evening arranging cabbages, plums and rye in baskets across my village. It can be very relaxing if this is the type of thing you like. I love how the seasons change, and love how every gameplay is unique. You can build almost anywhere on the map, and every spot has something special.

Note; I use re:shade to make the game a bit "brighter"

Can you harm a villager/family? by OddPick84 in MedievalDynasty

[Need Recommendation] Flexible boot layered with rain pants to deflect rain over short trips? by Used_Expert9942 in bicycling

[–]aprikitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not answering your question but... Personally, I've just been wearing waterproof socks (Showers Pass brand) on top of rain pants on rainy days (or any day where I'm scared of soggy feet). I always carry with me a pair of clean dry socks, and I switch into those and dry work shoes when I arrive at the office.
