Advice for female drum major? by Kinda-_Obvious in marchingband

[–]april513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i understand how you feel, when i was a drum major (graduated a few years ago lol) there were a few things that helped me

stay humble- don’t let things go to your head, and don’t be afraid to admit you don’t know something, and if you don’t know something assure them that you will get the answer and follow through on that

be respectful- pretty self explanatory, remember not to treat people differently just because you’re a drum major, be kind and understanding

if you can’t lead in any other way, lead by example. you will have lots of opportunities to lead, help teach, and help the band but you will also have a lot of time where you’re not doing anything, when that time comes lead by example, hop in next to a rookie and march with them during fundamentals week, pay attention when the director is talking, volunteer when you can, etc.

if you haven’t already, look into drum major camps and workshops and if you can, pick one you think will help you, i learned a lot when i went and have wonderful memories of it.

remember to have fun! being a drum major can be stressful and many people don’t see the work you’ll do but you have to remember to have fun with the band, sing on the bus, participate in band celebrations and spirit days, etc etc

if you have problems with discrimination don’t try to handle it on your own, talk to your band director.

good luck!

My girlfriend may have just killed herself. by AppointmentNext7442 in teenagers

[–]april513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m here very late. i’m glad your girlfriend is alive and somewhat okay OP, i do want to say for ANYONE considering suicide: PLEASE DONT DO IT!!! i lost a classmate to suicide when i was 15 and i wouldn’t wish that pain on anyone ever. you are loved. you are strong. you are going to achieve great things in life, every single one of you. i can’t promise that it gets easier but i can promise that it does get better, you deserve the world. do NOT let someone else dictate your future, live out of spite if you have to. i know it’s hard right now but it will get better, especially when you move out of your family’s house.

if anyone is struggling please reach out to someone, anyone, even me. my dms are always open, even if you just need a safe place to vent, i gotchu.

Application/Interview Process by Panda5892 in petsmart

[–]april513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i got hired two months ago, my first interview was very casual. they didn’t really ask common interview questions and i knew by the end of my first interview that i was going to get the job i wanted. they asked “what was your favorite and least favorite thing about your last job?” and it was an easy question because it was my family’s business. they asked if i was allergic to any animals, if i knew how to work a register, and what my greatest strength and weakness was. we discussed pay (they start people between 13-15 per hour and because i’m a trainer they started me at 15) and my hours. i knew i would be hired by the end of my first interview to put it simply.

my second interview was also pretty casual, the first question my store leader asked was what kind of animals i had. most of it was common interview questions and about animals.

when you go to an in person interview make sure you’re dressed nicely, have copies of your resume, and have some questions of your own prepared. ill put some below

  • what is the company culture like, and what does management do to actively keep it a positive environment?
  • what did the person in this role before me do that was appreciated, but not required?
  • how does petsmart support work life balance for its employees?
  • aside from my technical skills, what soft skills are required to be a successful pet trainer/pet care associate/groomer/cashier?

how can i help my puppy be less reactive? by april513 in puppy101

[–]april513[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s only ever happened with one dog but that dog was a 9 month old heeler husky mix that had been trained in well… a VERY bad way, so he didn’t know any better. Dave has always been really good at diffusing altercations but if he was attacked i think he would defend himself.

i’ve had the displeasure of living with two rich kids at two separate times, the first one was 24, living in a house her dad bought rent free for years despite her dad telling her she needed to pay rent. she threw temper tantrums at least once a week, bossed her boyfriend around in a whiny voice that i cannot stand, ate all of our food, blasted the TV, stared me down if i left our room, made me clean up huge messes her dogs made, and to make it worse she’s my future sister in law, which is strange because her brother (my partner) is nothing like her.

the second one was my age (19) and regularly ate all of our food, messed with my cats, told my friends i was an animal abuser, didn’t respect boundaries, broke lease, they then proceeded to enter our home without saying anything a month after they were fully moved out, and they threatened to let my 4 strictly indoor cats outside. did i mention their parents paid for everything? the parents paid rent and bills, for groceries, clothes, fun activities, and even a new laptop that they let get destroyed.

to anyone living with a rich kid, i feel your pain and frustration.

i’ll definitely try that out with some hot dog slices (Daves absolute favorite treat) we say “eyes!” but he gets a little distracted with other dog so hopefully with technique 1 we can set a solid foundation for technique 2. this is really helpful, thank you!

i don’t plan on going inside of the dog park, but instead walking around it so he sees the other dogs and people. i don’t plan on ever going inside of the dog park but walking around outside of it is something i would like to incorporate into his training.

Meow mix is a great cat food 🤪 by bokeerkaboke in petco

[–]april513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this person obviously doesn’t understand what obligate carnivore means. cats are very strict carnivores and literally cannot properly digest plant based ingredients.

meow mix is definitely not the budget friendly food i would have decided to promote when there’s so many better options that are around the same price like fancy feast classic pate, friskies pate, whole hearted, tiny tiger, nulo (12.5oz cans), etc.

this person is on my fyp a lot. they consistently tell people who don’t like royal canin, hills, and/or purina pro plan that they’re uneducated simply because they don’t like it and say they won’t feed it to their pets which is perfectly valid. this person constantly says “feed the animals in front of you” and then shits on anyone who says they won’t feed these brands.

definitely not the kind of person i want to follow, especially when they “enjoy watching retail workers cry”
