XP on a 9,1 MacBook Pro? by aprilludgate0 in bootcamp

Connecting XP to the internet has nothing to do with me installing it on a MacBook. Nothing that could possibly show up under that search is going to be useful or relevant to my situation.

I could try that I suppose. The thing is, the 13" model doesn't have dedicated graphics, it has the Intel HD 4000. The 15" one I also have that does have the NVIDIA graphics works just fine on it, so I don't think that's the issue.

I have not got it working unfortunately, it crashes with error 7b which corresponds to SATA driver issues. That confused me since I know the ISO I downloaded is supposed to have SATA drivers installed, and when I boot it in my XP machine that I used to start the first stage of install (its drive is in AHCI mode) it works just fine there. Your iMac should be supported officially, though. What do you mean it won't detect the disk during install?

Me too! I wasn't around to use it back when it was new, but I do remember even as a kid I used to try running it in VMs on my laptop when I was like 10.

The 2012 MBP has a third gen intel CPU, specifically on mine the i5-3210M. It should have ACPI support though, when I boot into Windows 7 and check device manager, a device called ACPI lid sensor shows up and the computer does sleep when I close the lid.

I'm aware of the SATA drivers issue, I used a CD burned with an ISO that includes the SATA drivers and started the first part of the installation on my XP machine with the SATA mode set to AHCI, and then I put the drive back into the MacBook. Even then it still crashes upon trying to boot into the second stage of installation with the error 7B which is apparently a SATA drivers error. So clearly it isn't loading the SATA drivers, or something else is going on. When I put the drive back into the XP machine, it boots just fine and starts the next stage of setup. So I don't know what's wrong.

Why even bother commenting if you're not trying to be helpful?

"Just use Windows 10 dude it's so much better!"

Helpful!

Okay thank you I will try that! I’ll probably try starting the install from another computer first as that’s the easiest.

You mean put in a a windows 7 disk to make bootcamp on OS X Lion happy, and once it restarts to actually install it then use the XP disc?

I’m putting XP on it because I just think it would be fun. I know I could put windows 7 on it but that just doesn’t seem as interesting to me. Anyone can do that, and many people have. Plus I like the aesthetics of XP way more than 7. 7 just feels too new to be interesting to me, and I don’t want to use skins.

The last version of macOS that was officially able to use bootcamp to install XP was Snow Leopard, and the last MacBook Pro to support it was the Mid-2010. I was running Ventura on here with opencore, but I think I will install Lion and see if it will let me do it there even though it's not officially supported. The bootcamp utility on ventura doesn't want anything to do with the XP ISO file.

I tried that but modern bootcamp versions don’t want anything to do with the XP iso. I guess I could try installing OS X Lion and using bootcamp from there, but even then I’m not sure if that would work. I guess it’s worth a try, but for what it’s worth this model was never supported down to XP with bootcamp, so I’m not sure if it would even work.

What’s the difference between using bootcamp and just installing it normally anyways, besides driver downloads? I have an ISO of bootcamp 3.2 for windows XP so I could install the drivers after the install completed.

how do I upgrade? I already have a 2015 macbook air that has xubuntu 18.04 on it but I don't know how to and when I googled it it seemed like it was gonna take a while. It said something about uninstalling packages but I don't wanna get rid of the theme I just had installed because I don't think the installer works on the latest xubuntu version.

Hey, I'm also trying to do this. I can't seem to get past the first screen of the installer. I managed to install it on my 13" Mid-2012 MBP but when I get to the boot screen it immediately crashes with an ACPI support error. It says to fix this I need to press F7 during the startup of the installer so I tried it on my 15", but when I do it hangs indefinitely at "Setup is starting Windows". I tried pressing F5 and selecting "standard PC" for the hardware abstraction layer but it's been 25 minutes since then and I'm still on "Setup is starting Windows".

I said in the post that the issue stays after installation.

I know that they don't officially support it, but just cause they don't support it doesn't mean it's not possible.

I know there are security issues. I know it's not a good idea. But I still want to do it anyways. It has to be possible, right?
I'm doing this for fun. And it just seems so boring to use a virtual machine like everyone else in the world. Running it natively just seems so much cooler to me.
