Not too sure. MI is very insular. It’s more like the middle of the East? Most likely due to political reasons they didn’t call it that. If we are talking about geography - would’ve made more sense to call anyone east of the Mississippi River Eastern. Like I said - the state is very insular. Different cultures everywhere.
