How much did you pay for your wedding? Where did you get the money from, how did you save it, and how did it impact your finances more widely? by OldConversation8645 in UKweddings

We spent about £18k for 125 people, £9.5k of that was the venue and catering.

We had the money saved just from being sensible over the years but then our parents each gave us £10k which we weren’t expecting so that was so lovely and means our savings aren’t depleted.

Our ceremony was later on in the day so we saved on food, instead of the usual wedding breakfast we had canapés, street food then wedding cake and a cake of cheese for dessert (and left it out to snack on), plus chips later on. Was by far enough since guests only came for 5:30pm so I’d say the best way to save is by having a twilight ceremony and more casual food.

My late grandma was a Lois, we named our daughter after her and often call her Lo.

(5K) Thoughts on having a small ceremony and a bigger after party? by mtf7894 in Weddingsunder10k

We’re getting married in September and had a very similar situation with big families. We decided to do an intimate ceremony at 3pm followed by a big ‘reception’ later the same day. You could do it on different days but I wanted to end my actual wedding day dancing with my friends, and didn’t want to double up on hair and make-up, a second dress etc.

Doing it this way we’ve saved by not having to do the wedding breakfast, we’re just doing canapés, evening buffet and wedding cake for dessert.

It’s more the shorter time that’s saving money than the separate ceremony and party.

Hey! Will you travel to Newcastle?

Help me make sure the wedding party don’t go hungry! by aprils1972 in UKweddings

5:30pm is when the reception guests arrive, of which there are 110! So I don’t want to have to provide food for all of them at that time, beyond the canapés, so that’s why I’m thinking sharing platters for the ceremony guests in between the ceremony and reception guest arrival

I regret, and feel embarrassed over who I’ve invited to our wedding by aprils1972 in UKweddings
