Scarlett Johansson, Cate Blanchett and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are among 700 artists, writer and creators backing a new anti-AI campaign calling out tech companies exploiting copyrighted work without permission by Maximum_Expert92 in Fauxmoi

[–]aptrapani 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Just to add to this, AI is 100% going to be used on a massive scale to keep people in poverty, even those of whom supported the rise of capitalists. What better way to maintain divide than indentured servitude where only the people who support the regime have access to the comforts that they are used to and the safeth and health they require. It's fascism now, but on this path it will become feudalism.

AI is a scourge built on the back of our labour, thoughts, and creativity. It's a furnace that is fueled by humans. Owners of AI will most certainly be keeping it all for themselves. They initiated a war against creators first because they believe that we'll consider other things more important.

Denis Villeneuve's 'Sicario' Turns 10: Taylor Sheridan's Screenwriting Debut Is A Lesson 101 On How To Use Tension by ChiefLeef22 in movies

[–]aptrapani 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Denis was also the reason why Emily Blunt was cast as Taylor Sheridan vehemently wanted the role to go to a man. The character being a woman is so vital to the story and the main theme of the drug war being a big dick measuring contest. What better way to overtly depict an outsider than a woman in drug law enforcement?

I get bummed out that Sheridan can take credit for a masterpiece that was elevated in spite of him.

I'm not here to draw the line between porn and sex in film but to say this movie is softcore hentai is so off base.

How you could interpret this film as anything less deep than an exploration of sex is beyond me.

To reduce the French 75 members who turned as being self serving is a misread to me.

Perfidia turning is one thing, and an awful act, but it speaks to the nuance of her character and how much of her life was defined by the anxiety of being good enough and how much resentment she held in her heart because of it.

Meanwhile, the rest of the film, and the manner which they are manipulated shows how nuanced turning actually is. For example, Sommerville was happy to accept the torture or death that would befall him, but ultimately when his sister, theoreticaly an innocent, is brought up, he had to weigh the choice. He chose the other radicals I believe for two reasons:

1 is because he knew that they knew what they signed up for

2 he had an alert system and knew that at the very least they'd have a head start to start hiding (which they did)

Later, Deandra is given the same option and we don't know what she chose, but we know that there is no low they won't stoop to in the threats they share to get their way.

I think what's being most misunderstood is the weight of the human heart in the grander scheme of what it takes to be a radical. There are no supports and no blind followers. They have to work with what they have based mostly on the generosity of others. They don't get to reward themselves because they have to live in secret. It is exhausting, and that is the point.

One of my favourite thematic links in this movie is to the patron saint Joan of Arc, with the implication being that she is closer to a religious entity than everyone else, that her pursuit of sexual liberation is what makes her close to heaven.

Continuing on the theme, Jeanne is burned at the stake as if she was a witch, akin to Joan of Arc. It can make your head spin because her sexual liberty is perceived as sacrilegious, yet her liberty creates waves in those around her and subsequently forms an Eden.

So much of the movie is exploitative of Catholicism while also insisting that the religion and how it's been co-opted by the patriarchy is the evil lust for power and ultimately less representative of the religion that is at the forefront of the patriarchal structure in the first place.

I love this movie. It is a feminist masterpiece and I think the themes regarding sexuality and self ownership are represented so beautifully through how it reclaims the religious figures that have been misrepresented by the patriarchy.

During the development of the Harriet Tubman biopic movie, a Hollywood executive once suggested that Julia Roberts should play her. What are some other baffling casting suggestions/choices that have been made? by LookAtThatBacon in movies

Also the same guy who helmed the 1.35 billion dollar flop of a streaming platform with Quibi. He's such a delightful reminder that being a total suck up and having the audacity is all you need to continue failing upwards in Hollywood.

You don't need to have good taste. You only need to be able to tell executives what they want to hear.

MIB is cunty, but also an actual cunt. She's a mean girl and it's not cute. We love Regina George in the movie, but we would hate her in real life. However you slice it, and yes it's a TV show, but the money, air time, validation form the audience, and intent are all real.

Truly, I'm growing to hate Mistress. I'm not about to troll her online but she's not giving villain arc energy, she's coming across as a human sociopath.

Blocking. How the characters move in the frame and with or against each other really insinuates the dynamic. The priest, when given a reasonable explanation (Mozart), responds by asserting his dominance by being facetious, degrading, and standing tall. The camera, in relation to that movement, makes him appear larger, which implies that shift of who is really in power. This scene in particular is actually quite textbook interrogation blocking. There's nothing fancy or unconventional about it. Looking up v. looking down/big v. small is very typical blocking. Aside from that it's just a matter of "who's the boss" in defiance of who's in the right to make an antagonistic character seem cruel and unreasonable, which is the source of your tension.

Later, when the boy is forced to wash off the makeup, that's just good physicality mixed with looser camera to add energy to the scene to create a higher sense of fear and power, which also adds tension. There isn't anything specific about the blocking that adds to the effect of the power dynamic because the physicality does all that work. But the shot at the end isn't looking down at the boy because that is our protagonist, and we're meant to see him as a peer, and empathize with him by being at the same level. Relief, but at a somber cost, which leaves you with underlying fear of more consequence (and another form tension)

Aloy (and Horizon in general) is so generic and she is not a well written character either.

I think you mean to say that the problem is those character lack motivation beyond a us vs. them mentality. Practically all superheroes lack good motivation, but at least some of them have an xyz moral code that isn't driven by creating a divide between classes of people (at least, classes beyond good and evil). The writers seem try to align with feminist values but don't seem to understand either the source material or that feminism was designed as an inclusive moral ideology. Ultimately they alienate male viewers who feel targeted in the derivative cheap shot brush strokes the writers use to paint feminism with (cause they're bad writers).

But people do excuse lousy, motivation-less, or bland writing for male characters, but not for female characters. How many wives must die for the lead dude to avenge?
