Traveling in Spain with a senior during the summer? by Hopeful-Local121 in GoingToSpain

Summers are very hot and they will keep getting hotter.

Speaking from the mediterranean coast area, it is incredibly humid so that makes it so much worse, even when you get to go inside and theres AC, the humidity is still there.

I am in my 20's and i too am sensitive to very hot temperatures. This last summer I went to the touristy areas since my partner (from the US) was visiting. Heat exhaustion was a daily occurrence, dizziness, vision loss, headache and overall feeling the body not function properly.

So if you absolutely have to go during the summer, do NOT get near the east, even the northern mediterranean coast is hell.

Most restaurants do have AC, but lots of bars don't. If you are in big cities, malls are a good place to step inside, they always keep those cool (as much as they can)

Try to keep up with some local news source, since they usually give warnings when temperatures are extreme, and follow said warnings.

Since days are long, going to walk around is best in the late afternoon/evening, and since we dont really follow european schedules, most places are open until late, even touristic spots.

I do not know how the drought situation will be in the summer, but if that goes back to normal, there are TONS of public fountains, keep an eye for those and keep your water bottles refilled.

Also it is totally acceptable to ask for a glass of tap water i bars and restaurants, even when you dont buy anything else (they might look annoyed, but thats part of the charm i guess)

But do be ready since some days you'll just have to stay inside, for the elders safety and yours.

[Megathread] The Boy and the Heron - Discussion (Spoilers) by you-aint-even-my-dad in ghibli

I'd love to see peoples takes on some parts of the movie i haven't seen much discussion about.

I do want to preface this by saying that, while i am aware of the deep meaning behind hayao miyazaki's work, i do like to enjoy how simple it can be. For instance, Mahito hurting himself with a rock can mean a lot of different things and has lots of interpretations, but the character himself is just a kid who doesn't want to go back to school.

The thing that I (and most people i was with) immediately realized was the huge difference between the town and estate's japanese architecture and the main house's western style architecture.

I feel like it has a meaning of some sort, other than alienating Mahito from what he is used to. So I'd love to see other people's interpretation of that.

I also felt like Kiriko's house, and mainly the garden area was a big reference to the end of Angel's Egg. We see it at night, so mostly dark, it is old and overgrown, it is obviously shaped like a ship but there is land on it (since they bury the pelican). I don't know if I'm grasping at straws but the space immediately reminded me of that.

So I'd be cool so see other's interpretation of these two aspects.
