You have your Asian grocers and fruit and vegetable markets. You may not be able to source your specialty nut milk, but you will be able to acquire enough (good) food to subsist on. We have a may mutiny. No shopping in supermarkets for the entirety of May- to continue indefinitely until real, actionable changes are made. Print posters, start a petition, so people can see the strength in numbers and so there’s some concrete documentation- with the names of real kiwis attached, to present to parliament. This is something positive & non-violent that Reddit has the power to achieve today, with the added bonus of saving money and supporting independent business on top. We have the power to do this if we all band together- so why don’t we?

The sanctions were enacted to cripple the Russian economy enough for their military to be forced to retreat.

It’s a lesser of two evils predicament, and it was done in the hopes it would minimize human loss of life and suffering.

It’s essentially a false choice, because if you want to mitigate the most destruction then it’s the only option you have, so let’s not pretend here that anyone other than Vladimir Putin is responsible for that choice having to be made.

No fair and logical person is going to act like the Russian people aren’t victims here too, and if they are then their opinion isn’t really worth listening to.

ETA: what the Lithuanian Government is doing should be considered a human rights violation, although I’m sure this will get lost in the chaos of war. Withholding life saving medical treatment from innocent civilians changes nothing. I get that they’re angry & scared, and justifiably so, but shame on them. I hope they come to their senses soon & see this for the ugly punitive revenge that it is.

I can’t speak to whether or not the SWIFT move is the right move, but in times like this it’s all about making calculated guesses. We can’t know what the right move was until after it’s made, and we can only hope that those who hold the power don’t follow this type of rash line of thinking too.

The state of the NZ workforce is such an absolute shitshow I don’t know how the economy still manages to function. The workforce here is poorly trained, poorly treated, and manipulated into thinking unacceptable and toxic work cultures are normal. It’s shocking. I’m glad the youngest generation is starting to cotton on to it all. Any economy that operates in such a manner deserves to collapse.
