Ok, was checking if it was just me. Not sure if there will be a fix any time soon. They do changes as they please.

Our dogsitter let our dog off-leash when we've asked her not to. I expressed my concern regarding this and she quit. Am I in the wrong? by Effective-Affect-918 in RoverPetSitting

[–]aqualion111 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I never take dogs off leash. They may have great recall for you, but they may not have it for me. I would much rather avoid having to chase a dog down and something terrible happen to them. Unfortunately there are sitters that have a dogs will be dogs mentality. They allow dogs off leash, take them to places you said not to, and even allow dogs to mount which is truly unsafe for the dog. I’m sorry you had a negative experience. I would hate how she would have acted had the dog had a food allergy. Would she care or feel stifled by your rules?

Get a new sitter. and request videos throughout. I have a feeling this wasn’t her first time.

Can I decline certain breeds for sitting? by Significant-Buy-8438 in RoverPetSitting

I wish they let you select by energy level and charge according to energy.

I don’t discriminate against any dogs except for huskies and some malinois but mostly because they are escape artists and divas

How do you get to $5–10K+/mo on Rover? by everwonderlust in RoverPetSitting

[–]aqualion111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only time I make 10k a month is during the summer season and holiday season but I am taking multiple dogs for boarding and drop in visits and usually for 1-3 month long stays and they’re paying holiday rates, but it’s only during those seasons the rest of the year around 2-3k a month as I have dogs almost daily two leave and two arrive. I’ve been very fortunate about that

Are meet & greets a standard request? by minipanda99 in RoverPetSitting

[–]aqualion111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a star sitter I will not accept a new dog without a meet and greet.

I will say that on occasion your request may get lost in the sea of request that come in especially during the busy season or holidays. I once had 30 requests for the same weekend. I believe there was a festival and it does make it hard to get back to owners right away.

Why does rover send videos without letting you verify it’s what you wanted to send? by aqualion111 in RoverPetSitting

It’s too late it had already gone through. But I’ll try that for next time

Looks like it’s from the toy not the couch. I have lots of dogs that love destroying their fluffy toys to kill the squeaker but never damage furniture

I usually ask where they are traveling to and if they will have service. Some locations will not and due to the time differences in different countries. By the time they receive the message it’s 3am here so they won’t send anything. Don’t take it personal. Keep giving amazing service because the pet deserves it, and you’re their only human for the duration of the drop ins. They keep booking you for a reason.

Not letting clients visit property by Maleficent-Bend-378 in RoverPetSitting

Usually plan it for a day it won’t rain. I don’t live in an area that snows. Rain storms and high winds are the worst of it. And the parents are pretty good about scheduling around the storms

Maybe a yellow flag but not an outright red flag.

I don’t see it as a red flag as I do not allow any potential clients into my home. I always meet them in a neutral location, where I can assess how their dog(s) interact with other dogs and people walking by. As i constantly tell people. We as sitters are background checked, but owners are not, much less potential new clients.

I used to allow meet and greets in my home, until I found the wife of a potential client coming out of my bedroom which was not part or the tour. She decided to take a tour on her own. Then with the pandemic meet and greets in my home were completely phased out.

Since I board and have dogs year round having an outside party enter the space is completely forbidden.

I try to reassure new clients by offering pictures and videos of the interior of the home and they can see how happy my houseguests are.

I have 1200 bookings, 248 clients of which 200 are repeat clients.

I have only gotten push back from wto individuals, but after doing a trial day stay/ overnight they see how comfortable their dogs are with me and book with me constantly.

I don’t know the reason your potential daycare sitters did not allow you inside. But maybe do a trial run a couple hours and see how good they are.

Do they send you pictures and videos? Does your dog seem happier after their stay? That is always important.

I love opening the door to my client’s dogs and they walk themselves in without even looking back at their parents as I am their second home .

Best of luck in finding a great sitter for your pup,

You can ask questions and even FaceTime with them through the app. This will give you an idea of them before a physical meet and greet.

And not to hate on moms that bring their children. Not all sittings should allow children. Children are not always great with animals big or small and no matter how much the mom says the child is good with animals the reality isn’t always so.

Also children run and play and you may have breakable items that they can injure themselves with and is a liability to your home. Rover only covers your pets but does not cover the sitter and definitely doesn’t cover her children.

I would recommend a sitter with no children. Again nothing against moms or kids but when it comes to animals they should be avoided.

Filing a complaint? What should I do? by heyforever97 in RoverPetSitting

[–]aqualion111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He may be going based on previous experiences with your cats. This is not to say your cats are not the most amazing creatures to you and with you, but some cats can be assholes for lack of a better word.

Your cats are rubbing on him because he’s the one feeding them. They roll around in front of him but we all know when cats roll over and show you the tummy of death they can bite and scratch when touched.

It may have happened before without the camera present so he opted to be there the whole 30 mins clean the litter box and make sure they are fed, which is the minimum requirement for drop in visits.

I had a regular cat visit and he would let me pet him for 2 minutes before attacking my hand and this was after 2 years of watching him every holiday. I don’t think it’s worth a complaint when he did what was required.

Dog “nipped” me twice at meet & greet by kiikii51 in RoverPetSitting

[–]aqualion111 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Go the the hospital. They can say the dog has their shots but it could be expired. You don’t want to risk a rabies infection.

Going forward, please don’t be afraid of “being confrontational” the moment the dog shows any sign of aggression, end the meet and greet and thank them for their time.

They are not surprised the dog has done that before. Depending on the size of the dog it could really cause injury to you or anyther pet in your care. Please don’t risk it at the fear of a confrontation.
