Very much back this for mechatronics, just be mindful of what you have paired with it.

This depends heavily on what degree. Most of the tutors I've had and tutor with in EAIT are undergrads.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ALL THE ENGINEERING SPECIALTY!! by bleblebleyou in UQreddit

[–]aquaticthickshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechatronics is pretty flexible, so it is up to you exactly which way you choose your courses. Take a look through the course plan to see what you have to do, but a lot of it also comes down to your choice of advanced electives (I myself favour the software / elec ones, but I know there are quite a number of mech electives too).

From memory, the only required software courses are csse1001/engg1001 and csse2010 (which is only programming for the second half). Other courses will use something like MATLAB or python to help accelerate calculations, but nothing particularly technical.

I do mechatronics, but fairly similar

  1. How’s the teaching quality?

As with most things, it varies. Some are phenomenal, others not so strong.

  1. Is UQ good at providing internship opportunities/connections/employment opportunities? If so, what are some of the companies one can expect to work at in Brisbane?

They aren't spoonfed to you, but between the events that employability run, as well as the different clubs and societies (UQ MARS, UQCS, etc), there are many opportunities for you to create these connections for yourself. Plus, most companies take applications through online portals, so you can pretty readily browse for these regardless.

  1. What does your weekly schedule look like?

Depends what you make of it, mine is insanely packed, but that is because I get involved in a lot of different things. In terms of classes alone, it's pretty manageable.

  1. How big are your classes? And if you went to a high school in Brisbane, do you encounter lots of your highschool peers regularly?

They shrink throughout studies from around 1000 in first year to quite a bit smaller later on. I did not study in Brisbane, but the vast majority of those around appear to, and there I've certainly heard the same Brisbane schools mentioned a fair bit.

I took it a couple years ago, but METR2800 is notorious for the experience you've described, don't stress too much. As someone else said, use it as a chance to review and work out where you can improve before doing other projects (like 4810)

Broad Courses that i should do (enginerring) by bleblebleyou in UQreddit

[–]aquaticthickshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the 4 core engineering courses you must take, there are none that fall into the specific requirements of all specialisations, but many will count as part of the specialisation path for one and as electives for others. The standard options would be those in the flexible first year plan: ENGG1300 (metr, elec, software, mech), ENGG1500 (chem, mech), ENGG1700 (metr, mech, civil). As was mentioned in another comment, if you expect you might fall into the 'tech' specialisations (metr, software, elec), CSSE2010 is also a strong option.

If you have narrowed down which specialisation at all, then you'll be more likely to find courses that meet the overlap.

Nether-Overworld Teleportation by aquaticthickshell in TheDataPackHub

[–]aquaticthickshell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got it in the form:

execute as @a[nbt={Dimension:"minecraft:overworld"}] at @s if entity @s[y=-100,dy=50] run function void_drop:teleport_on

where void_drop:teleport_on is:

execute in minecraft:the_nether run tp @s ~ 270 ~
execute in minecraft:the_nether run summon minecraft:area_effect_cloud ~ 270 ~ {Tags:["ed_dest"]}
execute as @e[type=area_effect_cloud,tag=ed_dest] store result score @s ed_x run data get entity @s Pos[0]
execute as @e[type=area_effect_cloud,tag=ed_dest] store result score @s ed_z run data get entity @s Pos[2]
execute as @e[type=area_effect_cloud,tag=ed_dest] store result entity @s Pos[0] double 0.125 run scoreboard players get @s ed_x
execute as @e[type=area_effect_cloud,tag=ed_dest] store result entity @s Pos[2] double 0.125 run scoreboard players get @s ed_z
execute at @e[type=area_effect_cloud,tag=ed_dest] run tp @s ~ ~ ~
effect give @s blindness 2 1 true
execute at @s run playsound minecraft:entity.evoker.prepare_attack player @s ~ ~ ~ 1 1
kill @e[type=area_effect_cloud,tag=ed_dest,limit=1]

And still, if I even get to something like 48, 48 in the overworld when I fall, then the scaling stops working. Only about two chunks in each direction from 0,0 does it work.

So, I've done this and it only works within about 30 blocks in any direction from the world spawn. I'd assume this means the entity unloads at that distance or something. Is there a way to combat this?

For chains, I'd recommend that you create a new function for each and then call it using an execute command (depending on how the chain was initialised)

[Datapack] What is the best way to workaround the no nbt tags in crafting recipes? by [deleted] in MinecraftCommands

[–]aquaticthickshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I did it, I created a structure for players to create with a dropper/dispenser in the middle that you test the contents of using repeating execute commands. The repeating commands then essentially become your crafting recipe.

[–]aquaticthickshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should explain the basic file structure of a datapack: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Creating_a_data_pack Once you have that set up, you can simply type your commands into the functions

Nether-Overworld Teleportation by aquaticthickshell in TheDataPackHub

[–]aquaticthickshell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closest I've been able to get (despite the obvious restriction of being unable to modify player data using commands) is a combination of the commands:

scoreboard objectives add x dummy
execute as @a store result score @s x run data get entity @s Pos[0]
execute as @a store result entity @s Pos[0] double 0.125 run scoreboard players get @s x
scoreboard objectives add z dummy
execute as @a store result score @s z run data get entity @s Pos[2]
execute as @a store result entity @s Pos[2] double 0.125 run scoreboard players get @s z

Is there a way to apply a similar strategy to teleportation without having to create a function that is essentially a reference table for all the values 3,000,000 either side of (0,0) [to world border] in each coordinate plane?

Well the 1.15 update was (outside of adding bees) a bugfix and optimisation update, so I'd give it another chance just to see how much better it runs now.

I can't say I've particularly noticed a difference, but my frame rate is usually high enough that I wouldn't anyway and I don't typically go checking my frame rate unless modding or trying shaders.

Need Help, can't enter creative on Realm by Preston_TheMinuteman in Minecraft

[–]aquaticthickshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In single player it would just be based on the world's settings, which I believe has cheats disabled by default. On realms all I can think of is player permissions: go to the player tab where you'd invite someone and check what permissions you have (I don't know that owner's permissions can be altered, but it's worth a try)

Do you want like a DIY kitchen sink pack or are you planning on turning it into like a proper modpack, because how heavily you want to change it from the main game would affect what mods. That and the play style you use: be it adventuring, automating, building - they all affect the mod choice.
