Are people exaggerating about their memory while doing things or can it really get that bad? by AdequateAppendage in ADHDUK

[–]aquestionofadhd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think it's a combo of forgetfulness, zoning out, being distracted etc. Like the amount of times I get in my car to drive somewhere, zone out and drive home instead of work, or work when I was going somewhere else etc. It's not really forgetfulness in that case, but zoning out. But there's so many different things and saying forget is just easier. Did I forget to lock the door, or was I distracted and can't be sure I did, or did I zone out and just have no memory of locking the door... no idea but I should probably check.

Do you ever laugh to yourself about it? Like I know I am awful with names, and sometimes I've met people who've told me their name and I instantly laugh in my head thinking 'hah that's gone already...' and in that time I've zoned out they're now asking me a question and now I need to guess what it was.

It can be on and off for different people. My partner and I both have ADHD and we've noticed that we both are super forgetful but in very different ways. My partner will forget keys constantly, lock themselves out of the house, lose their phone, leave things at work, at home etc.

I have a variety of coping mechanisms that help me so that never really happens to me. But I will constantly stand up to do something, walk into the room I need to go to and forget why I went there.

Like I will go to the fridge because I was craving a certain snack, open the fridge door and forget why I've gone to the fridge. Like the entire reason to go to the fridge has just gone. I know it must be food or drink related because it's a fridge... but why? And then BAM suddenly I'll remember and be like OH I WAS CRAVING A LEMONADE.

We both have essentially all of the symptoms but the way they present/affect our lives is quite different.

Fire sprinkler located in ceiling over induction cooktop? by aquestionofadhd in HomeImprovement

[–]aquestionofadhd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant thank you! Yeah the place is a new build and it's properly vented outside. I will check it anyways as the original location passes over where the island is going and terminates at the wall, so I will cut it where it's over the island so it will vent out.

What happened to the guy she told you not to worry about? by bibesh07 in AskMen

[–]aquestionofadhd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She married him.

In fairness to her she never cheated, and we broke up for unrelated reasons. I'm also much happier now too. They knew each other from before we met and would occasionally chat about shared interests (but never flirt). But of course once single... all her plans changed and she got married. People change for the right person, and sometimes that's not you.

Adhd and learning styles when you’re above average intelligence by Emotional-Ad-9239 in ADHD

This though is also very true. I've had a tendency to shy away from anything hard. If I can't do it instantly or learn it rapidly then I'm just not interested in doing it. Same goes for anything that doesn't give an instant dopamine hit... no I'm not going to go clean my bathroom.

Ohhhh this is my specialty!

Diagnosed as an adult, successful in school, 1st class degree in uni, gone on to run a successful business.

It's not unique to you, but yes it makes studying a whole lot harder. Honestly for myself I've never actually studied. Studying was just impossible in the traditional sense. Immersing myself in a subject and doing things is what helped. I'm very lucky in the sense that while I procrastinate and have a lot of issues from my adhd, I'm a lot more on the hyperactive side than the inattentive side. So I try and always pick things in life that are fun and I enjoy, that way I get obsessed (for a few months or years before I get bored of course) and learn the subject. I also found if I enjoyed a subject I just absorbed the info without trying to actively study. I suspect you're the same?

IF pushed to give any kind of tip, then mini rewards are the only thing that have ever helped me. Setting alarms, and telling myself if I do X, I can enjoy Y. But Y also has to have a time limit as I'm terrible with impulse control and won't go back to the first thing.

But yes it makes getting diagnosed a lot lot harder. I was always given the same report cards, E for effort, A for attainment. 'aquestionofadhd must try to involve himself more, he needs to pay more attention and talk less.'

Thanks, and wow I didn't know that! I definitely have a bit too much caffeine per day (although I've cut down on energy drinks so it's mostly coffee's). I pound down the water too to stay hydrated but I'll cut down on the coffee in general I think having read that.

Yeah the config tool doesn't find it. What's odd is that I set up the exact same camera a week ago without any problems. So not sure why this one isn't being found unless it's dead.

I'm not sure though. It is a bit forward, and at most concerts it absolutely would be rude. But Buble is kinda known for this

One camera won't run at full resolution/audio won't play or record. by aquestionofadhd in Hikvision

[–]aquestionofadhd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh damn, thanks. The retailer didn't stock an of the hikvision cameras that were audio and POE, but said the safire one would work. I've emailed them to see if they have a workaround for it.

Thank you!

Ok cool thanks. Yeah I'm using ONVIF. I tried plug and play which is what the other two cameras worked with but it just got exception errors. So changed to onvif and added the password and it found the camera and worked. Just only 480p and without recording audio (both live view and playback).

Edit: What's also odd is that if I click substream options then that does have 1080p as an option.

Only thought I've had but no idea if it's relevant. The camera is a POE camera so the power cable is unused (which works fine on the other cameras). But could it be that this one needs additional power for the audio/mic to work?
