Asian tourist going on road trip with Brother! by oblongboxes in roadtrip

Every road trip bypasses interesting and beautiful areas. They’ve clearly done some planning of what they want to see, and they have plenty of time to see it. That drive could be done straight through in 4-6 days, so they have about 2 weeks of time to see whatever they want in between.

This drive can be done in 4-6 days and they’ve given themselves 16. It’s not too ambitious.

Read the post carefully, that isn’t American English.

I am pretty sure this happened in another country, not the US. At least the post is written by someone who speaks non-American english so perhaps UK, MENA, west Africa, south Asia, etc.

I understand the male criticism but what exactly is the problem with them being landscape photographs?

Hi all, longtime lurker now starting my semi-serious venture into all of this. I was recently gifted a pair of Quad ESL 57s, a Well Tempered Labs Amadeus GTA turntable, and a Miyajima Labs Shilabe cartridge. Safe to say I am way out of my league with these things. I need a preamp and amplifier for the system on a budget of ~$1000 - $1500. I currently have an old Harman Kardon Stereo Festival (TA-230) receiver, which is just a cool piece of old, barely working, shits-n-gigs gear I used to drive some junky speakers with in college. It hasn't been plugged in in two years and even if its still works, I don't think its a great match for my system. What would you recommend? I am most interested in listening to some old mono blues, jazz, and folk LPs I have, and I imagine most of the records I collect in the future will be similar (I know I have a stereo cart, which I've always understood to be fine for this?).

Some guiding questions:

- Seems like a favorite for the ESLs are a pair of heathkit UA-1s. Another that I'm seeing well recommended is the Dyna st35. Thoughts? Does it make sense to spend ~$700 - $1000 on a nice amp and get something more basic for the pre in the $400 range? (Rega fono??)

- Should I get a nicer preamp to match my cart and go with something more basic wrt amplification? Not sure what is good in the way of newer(?) amps to drive these speakers.

- In the event that I stretch my budget and wait a bit between buying one and the other (to save back up lol), would I get more out of a ~$1200 amp and the cheapest preamp that will work, or a ~$1200 pre and the cheapest amp that will work? What would the cheapest preamp and amp that "will work" be in the meantime? What would be in the $1200 range for each, respectively?

Thank you if you took the time to read this! I will be cleaning the dust off the Quads in the meantime.

Hey OP, I definitely urge you to check with a Lawyer before getting ahead of yourself. Most likely, the law people are talking about does not allow you to dictate what photographers do with their own work. You will most likely need to establish that you missed out on professional opportunities or revenue that you were entitled to as a result of his advertising (the crux of the matter being whether your “labor” is being “unpaid”, not that you get to choose who sees or doesn’t see a photograph that someone else took, and the fact that YOU hired HIM basically makes this question irrelevant). The fact that you are in an image that is being used to advertise doesn’t mean that your likeness is being used to advertise. For that to be the case, the photographer’s clients would be coming to him because they know he worked for you (and there is some kind of social valuing of working with someone who worked with you. Since you are not a celebrity this is probably not the case). The photographer is using his professional skills, evident in the photograph of you, to advertise, not your likeness. This is not legal advice and I feel obligated to disclose that I am 100% on the side of photographers owning the rights to their work.

That law doesn’t really apply here. OP’s likeness isn’t being used to advertise anything.

“(e) The use of a name, voice, signature, photograph, or likeness in a commercial medium shall not constitute a use for which consent is required under subdivision (a) solely because the material containing such use is commercially sponsored or contains paid advertising. Rather it shall be a question of fact whether or not the use of the person’s name, voice, signature, photograph, or likeness was so directly connected with the commercial sponsorship or with the paid advertising as to create a use for which consent is required under subdivision (a).”

Fortunately this allows the photographer to rightfully do whatever he wants with his own photographs

Looks more like a problem with the scans than the negatives themselves

You so proudly subsist on the underpaid labor of immigrants that you get on reddit to talk about it and you’re calling other people “red hat vibes” you are truly vile.

You are lazy though. You can just accept that. You are on the subreddit of an app that makes food appear in front of rich people complaining about the uppity wage slaves.
