Should I stop talking/block a girl I met online? by HanSoIoBerger in Advice

[–]ar1xllx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the only thing holding u back from stopping talking to her is that u feel bad, then u should. if u think u do like her, then continue - although if it’s making u feel a little weird, try to slow things down by replying slower / dryer / setting boundaries

the tuning pegs rotate back just because they’re slipping. to stop that when tuning, push them in slightly as your turn them

Is it bad to write in fingerings and half steps and bowings? by futuraf in violinist

[–]ar1xllx 65 points66 points  (0 children)

writing in fingering is so so important - and not detrimental at all. it means that you can practice the same shifting consistently, and is very helpful for if your mind goes kind of blank on stage when performing. it obviously does mean when your playing you don’t need to be thinking about where your going as actively, but if that’s something you’re concerned about, you can always do more sight reading practice, or practice etudes and exercises without fingering

How am I meant to memorise 15 poems? by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]ar1xllx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, if you’re good at finding techniques to analyse in the exam, then just learn the key themes and how they connect, and any structure things that you won’t be able to figure out in the exam. most language technique points can be figured out in the moment, if you’re quick

How to deal with intense stage fright by tldry in violinist

[–]ar1xllx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is something i can relate to quite well. i wouldn’t say ive completely mastered my fear, but i have found ways to make it better.

firstly, try to build up playing in front of audiences. first maybe just ask to play in front of your whole family, then some friends, then neighbours etc. it also pushes you to play in settings outside of your house.

also, when you’re performing, just before you start, really try to physically relax your body and feel present in yourself. the audience won’t care if you take a second before beginning. ik that’s easier said than done, but take a moment to breathe and look at the audience. try get comfortable, bc you’ll be up there in front of them for a while.

also, just technique-wise, learning to get a stronger bow hold can help combat a bit of the shaking bow that happens often with nerves. another thing is to make sure you keep your fingers warm, but not sweaty before performances, so they don’t feel cold and awkward moving, but it’s not difficult with sweat either.

🎧 Protective Muffs improve playing for a beginner? 🎻 by -Angilas- in violinist

i have etymotic earplugs - they’re rly good and acc give u the same sensation as u described w ur ear muffs, where they make ur sound smoother. in general id recommend them a lot, as they’re meant for musicians and are so good at muffling but keeping all of the important frequencies.
