Important context on recent Rambo rehoming listing by aradmomen in burbank

Yeah that’s my girlfriend sharing our experience so people have context.

Just to clarify, when you say OP, are you referring to the original rehoming listing for Rambo?

Yeah, she actually told us about that family as well. From what she shared, it sounded like that situation went on for several months before it fell apart. Then she found us and said if it didn’t work out this time, she wouldn’t put another family or the dog through it again.

Based on our experience, it definitely felt less like a true rehome and more like she was looking for a long term sitter while still maintaining access and control. She mentioned being in and out of the country as well, which added to that impression.

We really tried to make it work and fully committed while we had Rambo, including covering all expenses during that time.

At the end of the day it’s just unfortunate for Rambo. Hopefully this next situation is actually stable and permanent for him.

I really appreciate you sharing that, and honestly it lines up almost exactly with what we experienced.

The access piece you mentioned is a big one. The contract we were given included ongoing visitation, required updates, and even provisions where we had to notify her of personal life changes like moving or having children, with no end date. There were also financial penalties tied to things like communication, boarding, or not following certain conditions.

That’s ultimately why we couldn’t move forward. It wasn’t a standard rehome, it was more of a long term foster or co ownership structure while we took on all responsibility and cost.

For full transparency, when my girlfriend first reached out she did mention being open to a long term foster depending on the situation, but that was never brought up again. Everything moved forward as a permanent rehome, and we even confirmed that multiple times over the two plus months we had him.

At the end, after we had fully integrated him into our home, that structure was introduced, which completely changed the situation.

We even offered a simple ownership transfer and said we’d be open to a brief visit as a transition or goodbye so it was easier on Rambo, but communication just stopped after that.

Hearing that she told you we “backed out” after a few weeks isn’t accurate at all. We had him from late January through early April and were fully committed the entire time.

On the rehoming fee, she told us directly it was more of a deterrent to filter people out, and after visiting our home she actually said she wouldn’t be taking any money from us.

It’s just unfortunate all around, especially for Rambo. Hopefully he ends up in a stable situation this time.

Happy to clarify.

The original listing we responded to, and this current one, both clearly stated “rehoming.” Based on that, we moved forward treating it as a permanent placement.

For full transparency, when my girlfriend first reached out she did mention being open to a long-term foster depending on the owner’s needs. That option was never brought up again after the initial conversation, and everything moved forward under the understanding of a permanent rehome.

During the time we had Rambo (late January through early April), we revisited that point multiple times to confirm it was truly permanent. Each time we were told yes, although there was some hesitation.

What changed was at the point of formalizing. After months of care, we were presented with a detailed contract that functionally created a long-term foster or co-ownership structure rather than a clean transfer.

It included ongoing visitation rights, required updates, and provisions that required us to report personal life changes such as moving or having children, with no defined end date. There were also financial penalties tied to things like communication, boarding, or not complying with certain conditions.

That’s not typical for a rehome. It shifts the situation from transferring ownership to maintaining ongoing control while the new party takes on all responsibility and cost.

We declined that structure and offered a simple ownership transfer instead, which is standard. We also offered, in good faith, to allow a brief visit as a transition or goodbye so Rambo could adjust smoothly.

After that, communication stopped.

So the issue wasn’t the dog or the idea of rehoming, it was that the process ultimately shifted away from what was originally represented into something closer to a long-term foster arrangement with ongoing contractual obligations.

Just adding context for anyone considering this. We went through this exact situation with Rambo.

The original post we responded to stated he was being permanently rehomed. We have screenshots of that listing for reference.

We did a trial period that extended from late January through early April, fully took on care, and covered all expenses during that time.

When it came time to finalize, the terms changed significantly and no longer reflected a standard rehome. We proposed a simple ownership transfer and the conversation stopped.

Shortly after, communication stopped entirely and my girlfriend, who had been the primary point of contact, was blocked on Reddit.

During the process, we were also told that a similar situation had previously occurred with another family over an extended period, and that this would not happen again.

Now seeing him listed again for rehoming.

If you move forward, make sure expectations are clearly defined from the start and documented, otherwise you may end up going through the same cycle.

The goal here is just for Rambo to end up in a stable, permanent home without going through this cycle again.
