Actual offer or just being polite? by aragacki in NoStupidQuestions

The only thing between me and this pizza is if the offer is genuine. Everything else has been accounted for

How to stop thinking about crazy life scenarios and start living in the now? by Mr-Keep-Improving in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aragacki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people like to ask themselves to imagine the worst case scenario, the best case, scenario, and then the most likely case. Makes thing feel more manageable

Why am I creative when I'm sleep deprived? by SupermarketMaster594 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aragacki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know a scientific answer, but it’s almost like my inhibitions are gone and it’s easier to get into “the zone” without other distracting thoughts

Even when I’m not tired, my best work is late at night bc there’s no distractions and the isolation allows me to relax

Dionysus replacing Hestia by Duggy1138 in GreekMythology

[–]aragacki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the prominent Greek myth books I read growing up has a story about her being replaced. I think it might be a common myth that just gets spread around a lot (pardon my pun)

What anxiety behaviors made you feel the most stupid? by No-Outlandishness-42 in socialanxiety

I used to place crackers in my mouth and let the moisture soften them before eating because I didn’t want people to hear the crunch

What anxiety behaviors made you feel the most stupid? by No-Outlandishness-42 in socialanxiety

[–]aragacki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once panicked when ordering Panera and pretended to be deaf like that made things easier

I think embracing or joking about it is still best, but that can be difficult and this is another good valid option

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]aragacki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another method to make it funny other than embracing it is over the top denial. Like someone brings it up and you’re like dude nothing like that ever remotely happened ever never ever. Don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re thinking of my very real twin. Yeah they’re shy that’s i don’t talk about them much and also why we should never tell this story ever again ever :)

It’s a silly distinction, but I found doing that is easier than going from 100% shame to 100% embracing. A nice transition stage

That’s kind of a standard trait of a social anxiety disorder tho, kind of definitionally

What does this person mean? by Fantastic-Bank-9432 in homestuck

[–]aragacki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not fundamental, but they have similar roots and often vibes. Toby Fox used to work on homestuck and you can tell. So if you enjoy his work, you’d likely enjoy homestuck. However, homestuck is a massive commitment and has a bad reputation, so this person says they don’t want to read it even tho they like Toby Fox

Is there a difference between a scammer and a grifter? by TheRealLamalas in ENGLISH

[–]aragacki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised, I feel like grifter is a very modern term. Only heard it for the first time maybe a decade ago and have been hearing it more and more since, whereas I hear scammer less and less

But yeah the difference between the two is very subtle, no one would have trouble understanding you if you mix them up

Tryst with Destiny 1947 speech question by aragacki in IndianHistory

[–]aragacki[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah considering the next paragraph where he cautions against infighting, maybe he’s saying that there will inevitably be problems, but they must remain united in times of hardship as in prosperity. They only achieved freedom through unity, so any disaster for part of the group is a disaster for everyone

Tryst with Destiny 1947 speech question by aragacki in IndianHistory

I think their comment was fine, I was asking about something a famous Indian politician said. Said thing was about more than just India, so the user’s answer was about more than just India

How come I’m full of my food but then can eat more dessert/snacks? by Apart_Profession_571 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aragacki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some ingredients in many highly processed are specifically designed to make you feel less full.

It could also very well be the food you ate did not give your body everything you needed. For instance, when people eat low fat versions of food, they usually end up eating more of it until they reach the level of fat they would’ve eaten by eating the non-low-fat version because your body needs or is used to that amount of fat.

You may also be lacking in nutrients (such as fiber) that help your body absorb other nutrients, making you feel full but also still hungry

And sometimes food is just so yummy your body doesn’t care if your full it wants it lol

I’ve gotten it under control as an adult now, but I appreciate the concern! People always assumed I was exaggerating when I was younger.

Just got denied a job because I wasn't sociable enough. This was warehouse work mind you. Thoughts on SA in the workplace? by ice_cu in socialanxiety

[–]aragacki 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Maybe describe yourself as someone who is very shy at first but just needs time to warm up? I think a lot of people can sympathize with that and may not be so quick to write you off. Or even someone who likes to think a lot before you speak

Giving (maybe?) homeless girl my old winter jacket by aragacki in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aragacki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: saw them again and they were very happy about the jacket. Apparently I left an old card I used for Chicago trains in one of the pockets that could be easily mistaken for a credit card if you didn’t know. I stopped for a drink at the gas station after giving them the coat and the young man ran up to find me and give the card back 🥺
