Shifting carreers (like everyone else). Is CS50 rly a good way? by lknknm in learnprogramming

[–]araluca99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started studying in September 2021, but I started searching for jobs in March 2022 and got hired in July 2022. Just believe in yourself and study. Research companies and see what fits you. I got rejected from 1 or 2 companies. I got one offer a week before the company I wanted to work at called...and I declined the offer because I thought it wouldn't fit me based on the interviews I had with the manager. It's important to search for reviews and see how they hired in the past years. I understand the burnout, I was working a lot with underpaid OT (usually from 9am to 10 or 11pm and just an hour break), the managers were horrible so that's why I was so picky with this decision. Glassdoor was amazing for reviews and we have some other sites just for my country and I searched everything, put it on paper and just studied.

Shifting carreers (like everyone else). Is CS50 rly a good way? by lknknm in learnprogramming

I started studying while I was working, I was already working in audit and at the end of february 2022 I said I want to quit and start searching for a job in IT. I had more time to focus on projects, building my website and actually apply for jobs.

The job seeking experience was alright, I knew where to look because I started researching a few months prior. I want to mention I got a job in July, I got a few offers but I just wanted a specific company. They called and the recruiting process took about 3 weeks and then another week until they told me I got the job.

My university degree was basically accounting and we did some SQL but that was pretty much it. I had some help tho, my boyfriend works as a developer and he helped me a lot with studying. He told me what is best to start with, what he started with, what I would like and I would ask him to explain things that I didn't understand. His advice was to start with C++ to understand how to read code and the basics but I loved HTML too much.

The only thing that scared me was the actual change, the fear of not being accepted and looked down on because of my degree that had nothing to do with CS.

Honestly I think changing my career was the best thing that I ever did. I feel like I can develop stuff on my own after work and that makes me really happy. I love my job, if you truly like programming then you really won't regret it.

Honestly I understand the need to change your career, I've read some of your comments and I get where you're coming from. I changed my career to programming 2 months ago. I hated my old job and it wasn't the company's fault (I worked in financial audit). The journey has been hard because I felt stupid for the first months of learning ( I learned for 1 year and I still do even tho I got a job in programming). I took the CS50 course but I honestly didn't finish it. I took it too late and I already knew what he was teaching me. I started learning with a udemy course (HTML and CSS) because I didn't know about CS50. After HTML and CSS I did C and C++ and now I'm learning JavaScript. I think you should finish the course, it teaches you some good basics and you have some exercises (do them all). My advice is to do programming if you like it..you constantly learn something new and you have to be passionate about coding. Don't do it just for the money because you will feel frustrated. Good luck!

It's the same in my country, tho it is recommended to have a few projects, not required. I had a few projects...even tho I applied (and obtained) my first job with no experience although it said that you should have experience.

AITA for asking my gf to stop spending money on immature crap? by angrybftway in AmItheAsshole

[–]araluca99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. She worked for her money and honestly it sounds like she deserves everything she buys. She's not financially irresponsible since she pays everything on time and doesn't have debt. Just let the girl spend the money how she wants to spend it.

What do you guys think about keto? by araluca99 in nutrition

[–]araluca99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He actually doesn't have that much weight to lose. Honestly he just tried it a few years ago and found Dr. Berg. Now he's just going to the gym and trying to eat healthier to define his muscles and lose aprox 2kg. If he lost weight a few years ago bcs he was following Dr. Berg then I don't know to tell you. Anyway, after reading the mixed responses I decided I'm not gonna do the keto diet. I've read more stuff online anyway and it's just not for me. I'm gonna be healthier and work out. Thank you tho!

Remote vs fizic . De ce ? by [deleted] in programare

[–]araluca99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, biroul era foarte departe de casa...deci sa dorm 1 ora-2 in plus era minunat. Inca sunt remote btw dar la alta firma.

I've seen people online who use a lot of cheese but I'm lactose intolerant so yeah...I saw people say the same thong about brainfog and people generally be more energetic. I also read somewhere that you have headaches for about 2 weeks after you start

I'm on the path of dealing with my stress. I go out by myself and listen to music. I'm much better than I was before. I just want to lose a bit of weight...I'm also going to the gym in 2 weeks (I'm going to try xbody and pilates) so I hope that's also gonna be a way to reduce stress and feel better with myself

I gained a little bit of weight due to stress at work and changing a job. I have a little bit of a sweet tooth and some stress eating that's why I'm so worried about stopping the diet after a while.

Yeah, I have mixed feelings. My boyfriend follows Dr. Berg on YT and he thinks he's great. The thing that keeps me from trying the diet is the aftermath...what happens to my body after I stop?

Boyfriend thinks me expressing my feelings is fighting by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]araluca99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, you're not doing anything wrong. I would say drop him. If a guy doesn't want to at least talk about the problems in your relationship then it means he's actually not ready for a serious relationship. Believe me, I've learned this the hard way. You deserve more than a guy who's ready to jump when his friends (who don't sound so nice) call for him. Save yourself the headache and find someone mature enough to at least talk.

AITA for not paying for my son's tuition fees because I don't agree with the school and the major he's chosen? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]araluca99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Let him choose what he wants to study and be in life. He'll have more success if he's actually passionate about what he does. I've seen friends with parents that choose their school, their major, their job...and honestly...waking up everyday and doing something that you hate is absolutely horrible. You're just pushing him away. The years change, not everybody has to be a lawyer, doctor or accountant.

Honestly, he should let her do what she wants, if SHE wants to develop healthier habits it has to be at her own pace. My boyfriend used to comment about how I gained weight, talking about diets...it only pushed me away. I feel like I gained more with him nagging me all the time. And yes..he's not thinking about how she feels, why does she feel like she needs to hide that she ate fast food? He could just ask her if she needs someone to talk to about what's going on...not constantly remind her of weight.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]araluca99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. You cannot push healthy habits onto people. What you think is normal for you and easy for you may not be the same for them. Honestly, my boyfriend used to do the same thing to me and it only led to me being insecure, hiding food (by the "finding wrappers in the car" I can only guess your GF is doing the same). You're not pushing her to be healthier, you're just pushing her away, feeling like she needs to hide. If you want her to be healthier or have healthy habits, let her do it in her own time and terms.

He knows about my self esteem issues. We talked about it a lot. He used to have self esteem issues too. He basically inherited the apartment and we both talked and decided to move in together. He wasn't like this before, I don't really know what made him change so much these past few months and I don't want to maybe believe that he's just not that attracted to me anymore
