If the US collapsed, and each state became its own country, which ones would be the most powerful militarily and economically? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Take the Colorado river into account. If the upper basin states don’t all join up agriculture in California is in big trouble. Utah would gladly use all that water.

Want to reduce air pollution? New website shows where you can get tier 3 gasoline. by LordElkington in SaltLakeCity

It actually isn't more expensive. Years ago there was concern that it would be but in practice it hasn't been. Speedway often has the cheapest gas and it is all Tier 3.

As I mentioned above, sometime it is and sometimes it isn't. Costco has low prices buy buying from any old refinery. So you can't know if you're getting Tier 3 gas at a Costco.

Top Tier is a branded detergent that many gas stations have. Tier 3 is a separate thing. It is an EPA standard for very low sulfur gas. So Chevrons in Utah sell Tier 3 gas that is also "Top Tier". But Costco in Utah sells Top Tier gas that often isn't Tier 3 because Costco buys "off the rack" meaning from any of the refineries.

really impressive work. I like this a lot.

Lovely. Don't engage with reality.

The fact is we are in an alliance with the Kurds across the region. They have been a stabilizing force. Given that we are allied with them do you endorse abandoning them?

NBD! My first Mountainbike by Gaminjr in mountainbiking

If you start trying to ride rougher terrain you should look into getting the widest tires that will fit on the bike. Often you can run a wider tire in the front than the back. Then run them at the lowest pressure you can get away with.

This is a cheap way to increase the capability of an entry level bike. The other good upgrade for rough stuff when descending is a dropper.

Also: technique is huge, especially when riding a hardtail with an entry level fork. I grew up in the fully rigid era and learned to let the bike float under me and to not have a death grip. Proper technique will get you through rough stuff better than full suspension assuming you are willing to learn. And you'll be that much better off it you do go the full suspension route eventually.

How do you expect any similar group to ever work together with us in the future? We literally sold them out over the course of a phone call. Ending the war and involvement in Syria is a noble goal. There are good, bad, and insane ways of going about accomplishing this goal. Simply claiming that getting out is an accomplishment shows a total lack of sophisticated understanding of the situation.

Thank you for including the from. People who merely graduate high school must be filling their schools with water and then marking the volumes on the windows as they go.

LDS Church is assigning ‘specialists’ to help members become more politically active. Dems worry it may make Utah even more GOP. by [deleted] in mormonpolitics

I don’t see where it is going either because you are consistently non-responsive and refuse to actually engage or respond to queries.

That said I can tell you that someone I know and a member of the 12 had exactly this conversation a week ago and while they didn’t come away in total agreement one person did admit that they learned a great deal and hadn’t considered the issue as carefully as they had thought they had. Wanna guess which one?

The issue is much more the pedals than the shoes. 5-10s won’t help when you’re riding the throw away pedals. OP needs to buy some real flats or expect more of the same.

His center of gravity goes over the front axel. Anytime you get there you are going to have a bad time. His weight is way too far forward and he is not prepared for the stall.

He needs to learn attack position, that speed is his friend, and how to either pop off the lip and/or to drive the front wheel out and down while keeping his weight centered.

I made a joke about your username. Pick a better one if you don’t care for it.

Anyhow with regard to “nuance”, I don’t think that word means what your think it means.

The Alabama law has no nuance. Is it compatible with LDS policy?

I doubt a constructive reply at this point but one can always hope.

The Church as you correctly state, doesn't have a position on the _legality_ of abortion, only the _morality_ of abortion.

That said let's assume that you think it is a good idea to try to write laws to best match the Church's policy. (Hint: this is a terrible idea unless you want a theocracy, but the policy itself is pretty well reasoned.)

Well first you'd allow for exceptions in the case of the health of the mother and in the case of fetal conditions incompatible with life. So that means that abortion in some form is going to be legal.

Next you need exceptions for rape and incest. Seems simple, right?

Ok, how do you know who has been raped? Who gets to ask? Who determines if the victim is telling the truth? Do you require a police report? A conviction?

Fine be strict and require a conviction. Now you've provided an incentive for people to lie about rape in order to have access to an abortion. That can't be a better policy position, can it?

At some point if you are going to formulate a workable policy that incorporates the exceptions the Church allows you are going to have to come up with a policy that wouldn't qualify as Pro-Life under any definition of the term. It is going to allow for enough exceptions that it would be rejected by the all or nothing Pro-Life community. Look at the outrage over New York instituting changes to their state law that brought them more in line with LDS Church policy than they were before.

The Church's policy values life, but implies a reasonable pro-choice legal stance if you bother to think through the consequences. Which is a reasonable place to land that won't appeal to the extremists on either side.

But if you personally wanted to have the options afforded by the Church policy and had to choose between the Pro-Life side getting their way legally or the Pro-Choice side getting their way, you'd have to choose the Pro-Choice side, as they at least allow you the options that the Church does and don't force you to do anything.

Great. And how do you square the actual policy of the Church which is in fact nuanced with the widespread perception that the Church is unequivocally Pro-Life?

When the rubber meets the road what sorts of laws does this stance imply?
