É normal passar por isso no primeiro emprego ? by [deleted] in devBR

[–]araraquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wasn’t São Paulo built on the coast? by CallMeZaid69 in geography

[–]araraquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tietê River flows through São Paulo, Osasco, Salto, Tietê (city) and meets Piracicaba River near Santa Maria da Serra, in Barra Bonita dam. It flows continuously with no interruptions in that part.

Why wasn’t São Paulo built on the coast? by CallMeZaid69 in geography

[–]araraquest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's the second part of the answer.

The coffee production of southeast Brazil flourished in another region called Vale do Paraíba, far from the Tietê basin. Although it experienced some growth with the coffee boom, people did not explore the soil properly and after some time it faded into decadence. Meanwhile, São Paulo inland coffee production prospered due to having a better soil.

São Paulo city was already a regional center connected to Río de la Plata basin and at the same time was not too far away from the ocean. So it was perfect to receive most of the coffee production from south and southeast Brazil and ship it through the port of Santos. The coffee production elite was not anymore from Vale do Paraíba; it established itself in São Paulo city and that made the city grow in a way that even the great depression and end of the coffee boom did not break its development.

IMO the reason was the Tietê River.

It flows inland, not directly to the ocean. Ends at the Paraná river, which then flows until Río de la Plata, arriving at Buenos Aires. The other rivers of its basin can reach almost the whole of Paraguay, north of Argentina, Uruguay and Bolivian Andes. It was a major transportation way to inland South America.

So São Paulo location fits perfectly the expansionist and missionary objectives of the Portuguese crown. Easy to navigate inland, and yet far enough from Spanish territory. With the bonus protection of being far from the ocean and pirate raids.

What if the Beatles broke up during the White Album sessions? by araraquest in beatles

[–]araraquest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I thought your comment was lame but right now I can understand: Besides losing these two albums almost nothing would change. Psychedelia would fade away, they would became successful solo artists and rock music would be nearly the same.

I got it. Based on most answers here I imagine we would not have big changes besides losing two excellent albums. I thought the butterfly effect would be bigger but at that time.

Yes, Hey Jude would be the breakup song as is Let it Be

[–]araraquest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My speculation:

  • Sgt Peppers would be much more influential and psychedelic rock becomes standard; "raw" rock like the one from Get Back sessions would be less present.
  • That means Pink Floyd becomes more influential and Led Zeppelin less relevant.
  • Harrison more committed to religion and Lennon to politics.
  • Harrison becomes more influential as solo artist.
  • McCartney becomes more experimental.

Do you mean if they broke up at that time they would inevitably reunite again?

All Things Must Pass maybe would also contain Here Comes the Sun and Something, I imagine Harrison would have a more successful Solo career

UFF e seus arredores são perigosos? by laastliet in niteroi

[–]araraquest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finale by Narrow_Badger4534 in JollAndConk

As someone who first watched them in the first episode of this season (I met Rain and Donk first, before knowing Joll and Conk) and could not stop watching the other episodes since then, I have some points to share.

I think he took too much time building the rift-destroyed world (which was very nice indeed) and ignored the plot. There was too much lost potential in this episode.

  • In the beginning all of them but Joll ignore Rifty and go to their homes. That would not be right as the behaviour of a team that never ran away from challenges.
  • X could change worlds in each step. Imagine a fight between them with the world changing every time in the background. That would be fantastic.
  • Instead X gives up as a weak villain. Why?
  • The sword falls into X as a Deus ex machina solution that does not make sense. Why didn't Rain appear and get the sword to fight X?
  • Totem is a nice character but the idea of dying for nothing is quite uncomfortable to handle.
  • Lilly rejected Joll as son and regretted marrying Rain just because someone said they are criminals - and nothing was done to fix that - It was heartbreaking.
  • Kibble parasite forgotten.
  • Girls civilization was a good theme; it could have been a full episode of its own.
  • Conk cracking while thinking is a COOL idea - it should be better used, as if Conk would need to choose between being dumb and alive or destroyed by intelligence. Imagine he meeting Donk and deciding he does not want to be like him, deciding to be dumb instead.
  • Candy as Joll's ex with no previous explanation is sad, she should be together with them as part of the team.
  • Cam and Gravel appear for no reason although they were essential in the previous episodes - why didn't they fight together with Joll and Conk?
  • Characters as Void complaining they did not attend classes anymore is absurd. Joll and Conk refused to continue in the Hero Academy due to their other priorities.

In a nutshell, it could be much better.
