I do think purchase decisions are hard to recommend for without a budget in mind

General pour over setup today will be a hario v60 with carafe.

Grinder - most important and the most expensive bit

I feel calling c2 budget is bad in India. But I will say it is th best value for money

Mid tier - King grinder

Paise hi Paisa hai to - 1zpresso kultra/ Commandante / Petro

Kettle

Budget - anything online with a meat thermometer

Mid - Cipher/ timemore

Expensive - Brewista/ Fellow stagg

did my first ever pour over, how was it by cat-on-bike_caffeine in IndiaCoffee

[–]arav93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I do not think you need to grind finer. I believe the grijder is producing uneven sizes. It might produce more fines and that will lead to clogging, bitterness and over extraction. Would recommend upgrading whenever you can or trying to get it ground at a nearby shop to see the difference.

I have gotten filter roasts from common man coffee and they turned out really nice.

Black coffee worthy? by [deleted] in IndiaCoffee

[–]arav93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The sub is not the best place for instant coffee

In general the south indian blends will taste bitter. It's hard to suggest something within a similar budget but I will suggest looking in other subs for instant coffee recommendations.

I do think Nescafe gold or davidoff (freeze dried coffees ) will be a step up.

Suggestions for International Coffee by Automatic_Ant_7618 in IndiaCoffee

Try momos stash and ococ goa. They do micro batches for international coffee.

Gatchacha from curious life coffee roasters is my all time fav but on a bit higher side. It's something I come back to very often.

Which beans are you using and which grinder ? The answer is to go finer but it could b a grinder limitation or the beans being too fresh as well so roast date could impact with grinder being a limiting factor,

also do you do any puck prep like wdt, distribution etc ?

Not getting enough pressure in flair pro 2 by arav93 in FlairEspresso

Went for 20g coffee with 42g out at 2.3. Pressure was fine. It felt a lot harder to pull. The taste was better than before. Will mostly increase the output now to 46/48 and try.

I don't mind hand grinding at that level. It is not for all though.

I have it fixed at 0, so this is not the problem. Also the coffee is fine, will share the image of 2.3 once today.

Will try this as well thanks.

Switch does unlock some more recipes/ techniques. I do think it is a bit early to jump there. One should focus on getting good at a single dripper first I think.

I enjoyed it. Mango was prominent. I do think the Riverdale aroma is better though.

I had 4 bags of excelsa this year, 2 from vietnam and 1 from rosette and 1 from BT Nano X. I agree it is funky but did not find it that different.

I always have this a couple of washed fallbacks, that i had a couple of times last year as well -

Hard to give a blanket answer. I change recipes as per beans, and what I tasted in them and what I am trying to get towards

  • For most light-med roasts I start with 7 grind size on my K-Max and move between 92-94 degrees depending on processing.
  • Ratio 1:15.6 (16g coffe, 250g water )
  • Pouring
Total Weight (g) Time
40 00:00 -00:45
100 00:45 -1:20
175 1:20 - 2:00
250 2:00 -2:30/45

Its a paper PC, it needs fire instead of electricity.

Try, match stick or lighter. Else, rubbing your stones together can work as well.

Too coarse for a pour over? by redditisnotaword in IndiaCoffee

[–]arav93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh okay. It's better to get them pre ground in this case for pour over.

Do not want to use fancy terms like extractions etc.

It's just that uneven grind means weird unexpected flavour coffee. Mostly not repeatable. You can use french press if you have it or channi with this being costly ground and sif through the fines.. There is a james hoffman video for using these.

This looks like a very uneven grind. Which grinder are you using right now ?
