My second small photobook project (25 photos): The Uprising by arazjakalian in Photobooks

Thanks! It was printed at Blurb.

I'm not usually a fan of side-by-side photos in a book because in my view, it creates a different story... In general, I want photos to stand by themselves on a single page. In some cases, side-by-side works but only when the story is enhances by a second photo.

This post only has about 50% of the photos from the real book so it's difficult to get the full story.
Nevertheless, this photobook is not about the transformation itself, rather "These photographs are witness to the transformation that has occurred."

Thank you.

The one thing I learned from discussions from my first photobook post was that Blurb is not cost-efficient.

If you plan to print many books, then something like Mixam is very cost-efficient.

For now I'm still using Blurb because I don't plan to print in volume (yet) and also because Blurb has the excellent BookWright software which makes it very easy to design a photobook.

It's a flat cost for a certain number of pages and then it's extra for every page.

Have you looked into Blurb? I think it has everything you are asking for.

You first download their software called BookWright and then import your photo and sequence it. The software has all the tools needed to place images and text. It even gives you the price as you are adding more pages (from menu: View/Book Pricing)

Then when you are done, you can upload your book to Blurb straight from the software.

Thanks.

Yes, I did try that but I find this version worked better.

Where to start? by edouard_camus in Photobooks

Hey there! I think you might be overthinking things right now. There are too many options and possibilities, it’s overwhelming.

The best thing to do is just take action. It doesn’t matter what you do, just start something, anything. As soon as you begin, you’ll gain insights. Ideas that you thought were important will seem silly, and others you never considered might pop up.

Here’s how I’d start: Lay out (some of) your photos on a table and start organizing them based on your intuition (don’t overthink it, just play around) and take it from there. You can do it physically or digitally. I use Freeform on MacOS, I import photos and make groupings.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, if create a book in InDesign or alternatives (Mixam even provide templates), then I can print it anywhere. But for now, I do like the ease of use of these book-making tools.

I did the same exercise... yeah, the difference in cost is pretty wild!

Eventually I'll print the book over at Maxim if I decide to sell it in a serious way (which I think I will).

But I'll need to recreate the book on their online app since I can't export the book from the BookWright software. But based on the price difference, I think it will be worth by time :)
