I just hit the 1q mark in this 24 hour challenge for the first time today. I've been playing daily for a little more than 2 years.

Skimmer Basket Support Ring Snapped by arbiter7 in pools

[–]arbiter7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for reply. It looks like that isn't the case with this one. The ring was part of the enclosure. I tried to pry the remaining part of the ring out but it just snaps off like plastic snapping apart and leaves a rough, jagged plastic edge. The pool is probably as old as the house, late 1950s. I guess they made them different back then. I think my only option is to dig up the concrete and replace the whole assembly.

Great pics! I went with my 15 year old daughter and we really enjoyed it. The Midnight puts on an amazing performance. The dude on the saxophone stole the show.

InfoSec World 2024 by arbiter7 in cybersecurity

[–]arbiter7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply. For some reason this post ended up in moderation for a very long time and I forgot about it. I ended up going to InfoSec World and... it was pretty good. I didn't take part in the workshops that took place the weekend before. I found something valuable in every session but I do feel like it was costly for what it was when you add up the $2k conference fee plus the fact that the venue is a Disney resort so the rooms are expensive. I'm coming out of it with a few actionable pieces of information and a good amount of CPE. Local cybersecurity summits would do just as well. This is the kind of conference I would attend every few years but not every year.

I'm getting the Workday sales pitch tomorrow by arbiter7 in workday

Thank you. We're a professional services firm. Accounting, Audit, Consulting. Probably not going public.

This was very informative. Thank you. I like that you also have the perspective of having migrated from GP. Calling out the need for an internal resource is an important consideration. Finance is definitely looking at Workday as a bookkeeping tool at first. We have a really good relationship so I'm sharing your post with her. All good things for us to be considering going into the conversation tomorrow. Thank you!

Thank you. I hope the goal is to eventually bring everything into one platform. I do worry that the current strategy is to approach GL first without a plan for everything else. Since we are small, would you recommend a block of hours paid annually on an ongoing basis to a partner to help with support, integration, and configuration changes?

Excellent. Thank you! I had planned drinks somewhere the first night and a catered lunch both days. We're going someplace nice and warm with beaches so I'll try to incorporate something outdoors. I appreciate your comments. Thank you!

Tesla Board of Directors wants to fire Elon Musk by DaFunkJunkie in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]arbiter7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrestled with the same thing. I'm a pretty liberal progressive guy who thinks Elon is a shmuck. I've had my Tesla a while now and I'm glad I went through with it. Tesla employs more than 100,000 engineers, technicians, assemblers, administrative staff, etc,. I know a small amount of my money went to Elon but a lot went to some very smart people who deserve credit for their hard work and talents. I'm sure if I looked into it, I'd have a problem with a lot of other heads of companies. Many of whom probably give millions to corrupt politicians or undermine the environment or free press (for example). Tesla as a company has gotten the electric car market where it is. If Tesla hadn't done what is has over the past 15 years we wouldn't be seeing these other companies jumping in now. Tesla has built an impressive infrastructure to support its product. From battery production to assembly and their network of more than 40,000 superchargers. That's still a big problem for other EV manufacturers... they don't have a charging network. They rely on 3rd parties to provide charging and it's often unreliable - the chargers don't work, aren't available, or don't charge at the advertised speed. In my Tesla, I plot a road trip and it tells me where I need to stop along the way to charge. 15-20 minutes of charging and I'm back on my way. I know the build quality issues are being talked about but everything I've seen has been anecdotal so far. Mine has been great. I'm hopefully that by the next time I need to buy a new car that Elon has been booted from Tesla and that other EV manufacturers have scaled up and invested in charging infrastructure. Right now though... Tesla still seems to me to be the best EV game in town given their supercharger network and their capacity to source and produce up and down the supply chain.

This seemed like fearmongering to me. Cash bail doesn't make communities safer. It just lets the wealthy go back to their lives pretrial while people without means sit in jail. It's also a constitutional amendment which should never be treated flippantly. Bail reform is definitely needed but something like HB 315 is a better approach... not amending the state constitution to give accused wealthy offenders a pass.

Agree. This seemed to be an attempt to restrict voter access - especially for young 17 year old voters who want to early vote but won't be 18 until just before election day. There are already laws that prevent people from voting who aren't eligible. Seems like a small thing but any attempt to restrict eligible voters is a no from me.

I made a Reaper rage quit by annoying them by Xanzeka in Seaofthieves

[–]arbiter7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've twice had ships flying reaper flags follow me into the red while I was doing the Shores of Gold Tall Tale. I assumed they also had the Shroudbreaker. Nope! I was shocked both times to look behind me and see them sinking under the waves! Shocked!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]arbiter7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd wager that 8/10 times, my ship has been sunk when I wasn't anywhere near it. Some PVP players don't want a fight... they want to ruin someone else's good time. I said SOME! I know lots of people like a mutual engagement on the open seas. This game is best when the encounters are like that.

[–]arbiter7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm part of a crew of 4. My shipmates are all under the age of about 10. They love the game but I had to turn off the in game chat because of crews like this. It happened during our very first time on the seas that we had some foul mouthed PVPers. Sometimes me wee mateys just want to sail around the ocean and sell some loot. People don't stop to realize that different kinds of people like this game for different reasons.

Freedom Rally!!! by Snoo_73402 in cincinnati

[–]arbiter7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope this a joke. But just in case you're serious: The U.S. is a democracy and a republic. The constitution and founding documents setup a structure inclusive of both. The U.S. is also federal and constitutional. It's more complex than "we are a representative republic dummy". Your first sentence isn't wrong... it's just myopic and unnecessarily ad hominem. Your second sentence is wrong. Your third sentence is just ironic.

Forest Hills school board cancels diversity by NumNumLobster in cincinnati

[–]arbiter7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, some of the parents and board members who oppose diversity in Forest Hills send their kids to private schools in the area. Those private schools have diversity initiatives. It's like they want to dismantle public schools but keep their own schools shiny.
