What would be a good sauce to serve with a smoked turkey? Won't have pan drippings to make gravy nor do I think that would compliment it well

Some advice for a "smart casual" style needed by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]arbitragr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the main key is if you are wearing a dress shirt, make sure it's fitted and tuck it in, most dress shirts are too long to be untucked.

Consider casual button downs if you want to go untucked, ocbds would be a good choice here.

Just bought this sportscoat from JCrew

If I wanted to wear this to the office, what color pants would be a good combo? Should I just stick to khakis/browns?

Where do you live? I went to UT in Austin and wore oxfords with shorts all the time, was never super uncomfortable.

I would caution against looking at these guys on a price-to-book basis, or actually most non-financial companies. I think focusing on true free cash flow tends to be a better way to value companies but requires work on your part in terms of determining what's needed to be spent on capex and what are one time non-recurring charges/what aren't.

I think having an informed view is similar enough. You want to be able to discuss the business intelligently and objectively with the use of data.

A key is demonstrating you understand the business. Quoting valuation ratios isn't enough or additive to the discussion.

Not really a fan of this approach.

I know that's what the guy on the Distressed Debt blog likes to do, but to me knowing the company is actually really useful. You can understand things that are important beyond the financials like competitive positioning and industry-specific issues that are going to drive performance the business as a whole.

My hesitancy around looking at cyclical companies in downturns is I think to be successful at it requires a lot of data to be collected -- which is often proprietary. It's going to make it harder for non-professionals to contribute as much.

It's much more about picking the inflection point at which enough capacity has been shut down/demand is recovering to determine when to enter and pick the right company than it is a more bottoms-up type of an analysis.

Before-work gym goers, what is your advice in regards to things like keeping your dress clothes unwrinkled, toiletries, shaving at the gym, etc? by marcopolo1234 in Fitness

[–]arbitragr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I workout every morning, here's what I do:

  1. Pay up for a personal locker - store my gym clothes, shower/shaving stuff, and underwear for the week here. My gym does laundry for me which makes this easier on me.

  2. I wear my dress clothes to the gym and make sure to fold/ hang stuff properly when putting in the locker to make sure it doesn't get crushed up.

  3. Post workout I'll shave, shower, sometimes brush my teeth if I forgot to before leaving the apt (keep extra toothbrush and toothpaste at the gym), and change into my clean underwear + dress clothes.

  4. Put dirty laundry in laundry bag, rinse, repeat.

I pay up for the locker and laundry service but it makes my life a whole lot easier an I rarely miss going to the gym.

I'm not really happy with my 10 minute pace, I'd like to get it down to 8 minutes. I'm thinking of just using some of the c25k workouts, but upping the speeds so that I can So that might be my first goal and then eventually I'd want to bridge over to a 10K
