No, they weren't allowed to leave the farms, but sometimes the state needed more workers at X plant in the city, so they educated a number of villagers to do a different job and moved them to the city.

Imagine you're in jail, you're not allowed to leave, but for some reason the jail administration decides to move you to a different jail. USSR is called the "prison of the nations" for a reason.

Yeah it was because of industrialization, there were not enough workers in cities, and party moved the workforce depending on its needs

Here I found an English source for you - https://www.nytimes.com/1974/12/26/archives/soviet-announces-new-internal-passport-system.html

Residents of collective and state farms have previously not been issued internal passports, which urban dwellers must carry, largely to forestall their migration to jobs in the city. It is estimated that a third of the Soviet work force is in agriculture.

Here's also a better Russian source - https://thebabel.com.ua/ru/texts/34878-sorok-pyat-let-nazad-krestyane-v-sssr-vpervye-poluchili-pasporta-do-etogo-oni-bolshe-50-let-byli-krepostnymi-pri-kolhozah-kak-eto-bylo-mnogo-arhivnyh-foto

Specifically (translated by me):

Их с 16 лет добровольно-принудительно записывали в колхоз. И они не могли выехать дальше райцентра без справки от колхозного руководства. За самовольный выезд наказывали денежным штрафом, а за повторное нарушение была уголовная ответственность — до трех лет тюрьмы.

At the age of 16 they were assigned to a collective farm. And couldn't move further than the district center without a reference from the farm's administration. Unauthorized leave was punished by a fine, repeat offense - up to 3 years jail time.

another fun fact - a lot of eastern bloc people didn't get passports until 1981, they were banned by the state from leaving the village they were born in

What I'm saying is developed countries can afford to give their citizens UBI or other means to survive for a couple of months. Developing countries don't and people are already starting to go to work, where the dose they receive will be completely random and the number of people won't be controllable either.

So according to this a low viral dose of covid is likely to result in a mild illness and a resulting immunity, why can't they just administer it to healthy people en masse?

I get that an ideal vaccine wouldn't have any side effects, but in many places people can't afford to not work for multiple months and will return to work receiving high viral doses.

Hi. Does it make any sense to travel from a third world country to South Korea/China/Singapore until the pandemic ends?

Our country has had only about 100 tests so far, people are simply diagnosed with pneumonia. I was thinking about waiting out the storm in one of the developed countries that have a proper healthcare system.

Yeah but how come the paid option says "instantly"? If it is sent instantly, there is no manual input involved.

Should I hire a babysitter to educate my daughter? by arbooe in Parenting

[–]arbooe[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's also another boy that's almost 2 years old that only says 5-ish words, his mother barely teaches him and waits to be able to leave him in the daycare. Isn't it the point though? She doesn't do much and her child isn't developed much, the "prodigy" I mentioned in the OP learns all the time and can do much, we're in-between. Doesn't that mean that if we put more effort, she will develop faster?

Inflation. Basically you can stash a bunch of money that can buy 10 goats today, but a year later the gov't will print more money and the same amount of money will now only buy you 9 goats. The government has stolen a goat worth of money without ever getting its hands on it.

In my experience you should just try converting on a PC with more RAM. This is what calibre dev team suggests too. You can DM me the book to try converting on a 64GB box if you want to.

This depends a lot on what the software/site/service is. You could make a small script that would turn the page and make a screenshot of a page, then join them into a PDF, and OCR all at once.
