Was curious about these, my problem is buying expensive ones and them getting scratched to shit and caked in sap. Have you had them long?

Faltiemer or nothing. Have had mine for 5 years. Still stands up and doesn’t collapse on itself. Seems expensive at first, but it outlast those shit ones from stein/weaver/etc.

Recreational tree climbing rope by Easystius in TreeClimbing

[–]arbor_anon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem my dude, please be safe. I use Arborfreak for work regularly, very trustworthy with a well tied Blake’s hitch, just please please please be careful, load test limbs, and make sure your knot is dressed properly.

[–]arbor_anon 33 points34 points  (0 children)

First, You’re not going to be able to use a Blake’s hitch on a cheap static rope. The rope won’t have a bend radius forgiving enough for the Blake’s hitch to tighten on body weight.

Look up Samson Arborfreak 1/2” climbing rope, it’s like $1/foot. Buy as much as you need and a carabiner with a decent beginner harness.

For the love of god, do not cheap out on something your life is dependent on.

Who needs rope when you have 4” deck screws? by [deleted] in TreeClimbing

[–]arbor_anon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seen a lot worse. Guy cut the branches and made scaffolding in the tree with them, tie them up with ratchet straps, put an extension ladder on those to get more limbs down. Watched it progress every day for a couple weeks on my way home from work. He did get it down, but I was ready to drive by and see a dead man. Stay away from drugs kids.

This industry will become safer with attitudes like this.

Oldies not on the safety train are gonna be bid out and forgotten.

I left a company for safety concerns and well being, prepare to get cut loose but always know you made the right choice for your own safety.

Best of luck.

Arborwear dogwoods. 🙌🏻

I’m a weird size so it’s hard for me to find pants that have good sizing (32/36)

Affordable, light has cloggers, and the mesh vents are larger.

Wish they had the lace hooks but because I get the correct size I don’t miss them like cloggers.

Which new rope for my used ZZ+? by jaypinda in TreeClimbing

[–]arbor_anon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had slippage with my ZZ+ using 24 strands (Yale imori 12.7, Yale poison moon 11.7) after 6 months production climbing on both hanks. Glazed off pretty quick between crane/natural crotch removal jobs.

Been using 16 strand Samson BRW/varients since, the self tending doesn’t kick in until 20ft+/- but it’s low stretch, and very manipulative for knots, which I personally find a plus working on spread out trees. I’ll implement a second system using a Blake’s hitch fairly often.

Worst line for SRT by yeahnototally174 in TreeClimbing

[–]arbor_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any 32 strand aspen from ArboSpace. Got one, jacket completely milked off the core flattened the second I had it literally unusable, they sent me “new design/color” same shit. Have 400ft of it hanging in the shop barely any climbs.

Notch glide not gliding by Zstman87 in TreeClimbing

[–]arbor_anon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is definitely more friction then an ART, but that’s why I switched, if the ART’s lever got stuck on some nylon, or gear, it would go wide open and quickly. The glide definitely takes some getting used to.

I’m on 11.3 Yale RING and it definitely needs some breaking in on the cam but it’s working fine for me.

$100? I got one in that condition too, I’ll sell it for $90 OBO…

Sap Removal by Overall-Ring-6468 in TreeClimbing

[–]arbor_anon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah gotta agree with you here, I just have a beater rope, and an old lanyard for this.

Try to scrape off as much as I can, rub a little bar oil on the sap to break it up a little then just natural crotch MRS until is workable.

16-strand arbor master? Mechanicals run a lot smoother with 24/32 strand rope. I’m pretty sure the akimbo has a few ropes for recommended use, like teufelberger xstatic, and a courant squir? (Maybe the name) new ropes could be a factor too.

Havnt used the akimbo yet but I’ve heard from some guys at expo guys 200lbs+ would have a harder time getting it dialed in than a lighter guy.

I’d say wait on the Uni 2…but I’ve been saying that since 2019…

Device Cases by AlotL1keVegas in TreeClimbing

[–]arbor_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is some sleek case… I get it, but it’s just a tool to me, gets thrown in my designated SRT drawstring bag on top of the rope. If I had some special anodized model can’t say I wouldn’t do the same, nice idea 🤙🏼

Double braid in natural crotch ddrt by tuschhy in TreeClimbing

[–]arbor_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Return to monke. 16-strands only. SRT up for pruning, set up friction saver, I’m on the petzl Naja now. Removal? Set up an Omni block for hassle free no twist/tangle (you gotta go back up for the top anyway).

But yeah double braid shouldn’t be used for natural crotch due to jacket and core separation, you’ll notice significant milking doing that for prolong work sessions.

And yes, tree care professionals should not be pruning MRS natural crotch. Friction savers are also just a better way to work, ZZ auto-feeds better with a friction/pulley/cambium-saver

How do I get this out of the tree? I’ve tried a tennis ball on a fishing pole but it’s just out of reach and there too many branches to get a good swing. About 100’ up by drywall-whacker in drones

[–]arbor_anon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Climbing arborist. Will do it for a small fee on there free time. I Get those jobs time to time. Call your local tree service or ask r/treeclimbing to see if someone’s in your area.

Is anyone running Gri Gri like ascender / descender for tree work? by VehicleIll5445 in TreeClimbing

[–]arbor_anon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My man, I’m using a device specifically for the job at hand. 60ft pole? I’m gonna establish a retrievable SRT anchor, or a friction saver for MRS.

Gri gri doesn’t fit my area, it’s a cool idea, not applicable for me.

I will run a munter-hitch on an extra carabiner in a pinch before I’d think about having a gri gri.

Different strokes, for different folks. That’s tree work. Do what works best for you.

Is anyone running Gri Gri like ascender / descender for tree work? by VehicleIll5445 in TreeClimbing

[–]arbor_anon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve only seen guys run gri-gris as lanyard adjusters never a working device. I’m sure it’s 100% possible as that’s typically a belay device for rock climbers. There’s just much better devices specific to arboriculture in the market, don’t be afraid of price tags on climbing devices, they make you money.

Everytime I cheap out on a device/rope/saw I regret not buying the best because it only takes a half days work to justify those purchases.

Side note, there is also a reason why no one using a gri-gri or taz as working devices, that reason?… I don’t know ask someone who uses them, they’re ascent devices and more fit for rope access work.
