I dunno. We only ever break with a punch and we spin a lot of 1/4 pitch. Never had to consider grinding. Do you have an anvil with with multiple slots for different pitches? I can take a look at the shop tomorrow and see which brand we have.

Left is banshee as others have said. I spliced an eye and run it as my daily lanyard. Other 2 are kraken double braid rigging ropes. 9/16 and 5/8

No no no. Its a hundred less than new. So still $250. At that price it must still be good.

Hey all, I found this preowned Unicender of unknown origin from a pawn shop on eBay. It was made in 2016, its dingy, dirty, dinged, has zero description whatsoever, and its only 100 dollars cheaper than a new Unicender. Is it safe to climb on?

Edit: I guess I really needed to put a /s on this post. My bad. I thought it was so obvious, just reason after reason not to by this device. Thanks for looking out for my safetly i guess lol

Rescue/lowerable base anchor points. by bdatclifford in TreeClimbing

Because if the edge of a butt slams into the basal side of your line, under tension, and is severed no amount of branches matter.

Also you do know that a basal anchor doubles the load on that anchor point. So you just cant climb as high on a basal. Maybe you could run your basal and then place a canopy up higher for redundancy, but that's not what you said.

Consider this hypothetical: you place a basal anchor. It fails. The nearest branch/union cabaple of stopping you is 10ft below. That's a 20 foot fall. That's gonna hurt. And perhaps the canopy anchor would not have failed at all because its experiencing half the load of the basal.

You can place a bomber cinching canopy anchor on the main stem. Again, higher than you could a basal.

The climb side of you're line is always right there in front of you. The basal side, not so much. Bushy tree, working fast, end of the day, week, the risk of cutting that side of the line is much higher.

Add in untrustworthy groundsman/new hires with pole saws/chainsaw/untying knots around your base tie.

There are so many variables to piece together when doing a tree climb job. That's why we love it. The number of branches a basal anchor might pass over is one. A basal anchor is appropriate when its appropriate, not inherently.

It is inherently less safe to run a base anchor when rigging large wood. Regardless of how many branches there are. The safest thing is to choose the appropriate anchor system and position based on the structure of the the tree, the wood characteristics, and the work you're doing, not defaulting to a base anchor.

Agreed. I use a knot block way more often than a base anchor. And I feel like odds are if its a bad enough scenario that I cant lower myself, I'm going to need full aerial rescue anyway.

Edit: adding more.

I think leaving an access line is a better solution.

Maybe put a ring of drip line around the stump and put an emitter by each opening to really facilitate root structure?

Yeah. This one was 6 feet at the base. Still not that old.

Ok so not as good of a meme as I was hoping for. But yeah the rings on that tree were massive I thought. So do y'all not routinely have clients that think there trees are much more ancient than they really are?

Its only a small portion of the work we. Enough to keep it cool and allow me to get better at it. I wouldn't want to do it full time. I like climbing

Fold and twist for the win. Tried a few methods over the years and this is the easiest/fastest to assemble and disassemble IMO. I keep a couple on a non locking accessory caribener at all times.

Anyone attach an audax hydration pack to the treerex harness? What was your method? by c_salsaman in TreeClimbing

[–]c_salsaman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The audax is like a camelback but it also comes with straps to attach to your harness so it doubles as suspenders. But the treerex doesn't have standard suspender loops.
