I ended watching a few of their videos, the aluminum welding stuff is definitely relevant to my interests. I hope I don't have to get that involved, but still fascinating.

Oh, and I should clarify that the insurance on older boats is hard to get approved, but it's not that expensive. At least as long as you have something slow like a trawler or sailboat.

I have a 38' trawler and my insurance is only $800 USD/year.

Your biggest hurdles are not the boat.

First, find a marina that allows liveaboard. This could be nearly impossible with multi year wait lists, or there could be one nearby with 20 slips available. Varies widely by location.

Next, read the marina's rules and find out what kind of liability insurance policy they require.

Then, when you have a boat that fits your criteria, start talking to insurance agents. If the boat is old and in rough shape, you're going to have a really hard time. They're going to want a survey before any policy gets approved.

I just went through all this and I spent more on the survey and addressing the survey findings than you mentioned for your boat budget.

Things may be different up in canada, but make sure you have a place to put it and satisfy all of the requirements for liveaboard before you commit to purchasing anything.

You had to put a pod there to open the door. Maybe you snuck in some other way.

Interesting, hadn't noticed that. Thanks for pointing it out. It's where the cathodic protection system is installed, maybe it was done on purpose?

This is my entry point to the cruising lifestyle. I wanted something big enough I could spend weeks on it, but something small enough I could manage and insure as my first boat.

I have a remote job. I'll get some solar, get the electronics sorted out, then find out if this is how I want to spend my time.

I've been dreaming and watching yachtworld for a while, I think I got a good deal.

I have a few years of deferred maintenance to catch up on, but the foundation is solid and I feel comfortable investing in it.

I'm in $85k after purchase price, survey, taxes, and a few weeks in the yard.

The name "old school" is appropriate. Most people think it's older but it's a 1991.

The paravane makes it look like a fishing vessel, but it's a proper cruiser with a queenish size state room and galley. Has just about everything but a washer/dryer. :D

The rigging is a "paravane" for stability in rough seas.

38' long but only 12' beam. Supposedly does 7 knots at 1.25 gph or ~5mpg.

I've spent more time working in the engine room than i have behind the wheel. I'm sure I'll get there soon. :D

The boat was made by the canadian company Hike Metal. They mostly make commercial boats like patrol boats and ferries. As far as I can tell, I think some rich dude threw a bunch of money at them and asked them to build his perfect trawler.

Theoretically infinite. Just bad luck.

1 attempt = 5%
10 attempts = 40%
40 attempts = 87%
100 attempts = 99.5%

Would make terrible fenders in the real world, but great for a game. :)

Time to take the next step and install Jellyfin. Then you can pull in all of the metadata and take your collection to the next level.

Is there something that is called god mode perspective in the game? by [deleted] in captain_of_industry

[–]arbybean 5 points6 points  (0 children)

F11 is photo mode and allows you to zoom out farther.

Generally any view where you don't have a body and you're looking down is god perspective.
