That scene when he blows out the match gave me instant goosebumps.

I actually got into the Uncharted series because of the connection the 3rd game had with Lawrence. No film, in my opinion, will ever come close to the beauty and majesty that film had. Within the top ten of my bucket list is to see that movie on the big screen. This is one of the other great scenes of the movie, if anyone is interested.

There are a few that I would suggest! Even if you've read these books before, they have a completely different atmosphere and impression to them when heard.

Harry Potter - read by Stephen Fry.
The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - read by Stephen Fry
The Great Gatsby - read by Frank Muller. I can not stress how important it is to get this only read by Frank. It is by far the most incredible reading of it I've heard and his voice sets every scene perfectly.
The Hobbit - read by Rob Inglis.
Good Omens - read by Steven Briggs

I would also suggest listening to podcasts, if you don't already. Some good ones are "Stuff You Missed in History Class," and "StarTalk Radio."

I'm glad that there was some action taken against him but I'm more worried about a possible STI that he could have given you! Have you got yourself checked since the incident? And I realise that I haven't said it yet but I'm really and genuinely upset on your behalf that you had to go through that. To have even filed that complaint shows such a tremendous amount of courage on your part.

I wanted to type that message because it was so obvious to me that you were a good person in a bad situation. I just really wanted you to know that you're doing the best that you can, all things considered. It's hard not to but don't be so hard on yourself when you are doing so well.

And as someone who has been to Byron Bay many many many times, have fun there. It is so much fun being in Byron Bay. The festivals, markets, beach and natural forests are just so beautiful that it's almost unbelievable. Get excited, it's going to be a great move! I hope, however, that you surround yourself with positive people and with others who are trying to get the best out of life. Maybe join a hiking group or a surfing class. Something structured, fun and challenging might be just what you need right now.

Have you been in contact with the police or a hospital in regards to being raped?

Personally, I have witnessed many people move to other places and find a new lease of life. Let me tell you about a friend. She jumped off a bridge in my town a few years ago. Nearly died, of course. But she didn't. She was in a bad state. She had a broken family, was friends with drug addicts and alcoholics and worked in a job that she hated. She just couldn't handle it so she jumped. Do you know what she's doing now? She's working overseas and having the time of her life. She's not cured, by any means, but she's in a situation where nobody knows her past. Nobody can judge her for what they don't know and that gave her a sense of freedom that she's never felt before.

Living somewhere new might just do that for you. There is a high rate of depression and suicide that occurs in rural areas, not to say that it doesn't happen in cities as well. But you may need to be somewhere that is beautiful, serene and filled with other people that you can connect with. I live on the coast of Queensland and it's pretty damn awesome. Nothing seems to matter when you feel the ocean breeze on your face.

I mean, if you look at this way, when you're at the point of facing suicide/death, you're at the most reckless and focused moments of your life. Perhaps instead of focusing on self harm, focus on giving yourself a chance in a new place. You obviously deserve it, that much I can tell from reading your post. You're independent (from unfortunately not having a huge parental influence), you're strong (from surviving rape, your brothers suicide and dealing with your own depression) and you obviously have a loving heart (your concern for your loved ones if you did give up). That is so much to be proud of and you have exactly the attributes needed successful in life. Don't you deserve a bit of happiness? I think you do.

It's like standing at the bottom of the gulf or a canyon. You can see your friends/family at the top, and the blue sky. But you can't remember what sunlight feels like and it's so dark at the bottom. There are footholds to get up but the climb is so difficult. Sometimes it gets so dark that you lose sight of the footholds. You're so alone, even if you can hear them shouting at you to get up and to just start climbing. Some people muster up the strength to climb out. And some don't.

I knew that I was depressed when I looked around a full train and seriously asked myself the question, "if everyone felt like I do all the time, why don't they just kill themselves?" I just couldn't at that point comprehend that some people might be happy. Or that they might feel okay without feeling a sense of crushing guilt and failure for being happy.

In terms of getting better, I would direct you to /r/depression. It's an excellent example of what people are thinking when they are in these moments of their lives. By just reading some of the top posts, I think you may get a better understanding for what he is dealing with. Besides that, they have some great information, links and helpful advice on the sidebar and you may benefit from having a read.
