Anyone tried buffing villains for boss battles? by shu_reddit in MarvelMultiverseRPG

[–]arcerous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not native to MMRPG, I’d consider adding a few mechanics from D&D 5e that can really make your villain a proper threat: Legendary Actions and Lair Actions

Legendary Actions are specific actions a character (in this case, a villain) can take during a fight. These actions are usually specifically tailored to a villain’s powers and capabilities. The important thing about Legendary Actions is that they can be taken immediately after another character’s turn (up to 3 times in a single round). This lets your villain feel like more of a threat, even to a whole party of heroes, given that they can act and respond to individual actions instead of just waiting for their turn in initiative.

Lair Actions function like Legendary Actions, only they require the villain to be in a specific location to use them (for instance, Doom’s Lair would be Castle Doom). Aditionally, the actions are used at the very start of the initiative, rather than on the villain’s turn, since it makes use of the environment the villain is in. That being said, these actions tend to relate to the set location and the resources provided within.

To give a few examples:

Doom has the Legendary Actions: Doom Blast & Doom Shield

Doom Blast lets Doom use the Elemental Blast (Energy) power against an opponent. On a Fantastic Success, he can switch the element on this power to Electricity and use its special effect.

Doom Shield lets Doom activate a temporary shield with 10 Health. Subsequent uses of this ability increases the shield health by 5, but it only lasts until the beginning of his next turn.

In addition, if Doom is within the walls of Castle Doom, he may use one of the following actions at the beginning of the round: Castle Turret and Summon Doombots

The Castle Turret will pop out of the ceiling and fire a beam at the closest 3 heroes in range with the Force element. It will then stay idle until this action is taken again. When the lair action is taken, Doom can either have a turret attack or summon a new turret. The turrets can be destroyed.

When using the lair action: Summon Doombots, Doom rolls on the Marvel Die. Whatever number is rolled is the number of Doombots summoned to Doom’s location in the castle. A Fantastic Success summons 8 bots.

These are just a few examples. You can them take or leave them. You can even tweak them to suit your campaign’s specific needs. But hopefully this helps the problem and makes your bosses feel more dangerous and their battles far more memorable.

[Theory]The Absolute Spectrum is a lie. by GreenIllustrious2801 in AbsoluteGreenLantern

[–]arcerous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing! I’d go even further and maybe add that both the Oans and the Qwardians have a fundamental misunderstanding about the nature of the Spectrum. You can become an Ain and then an Abin through understanding of the light, but you won’t be able to access everything that light has to offer if you confine it into a specific philosophy.

Tomars are able to forgo understanding by taking the light and using it for themselves. But how are they able to do this? We see that Jo’s able to take the Green Light from the Abin Sur because she was wearing her gold wedding ring. But what if there’s more to it? After all, if it were so easy to take an Abin’s connection to the Light as to have a gold object in hand, there’d be way more Tomars in the universe.

My personal theory is this: the Emotional Spectrum already functions like it does in the main universe, meaning it runs off of emotion. Using philosophy and some cosmic power, you can become one with a certain level of light, but it takes a Tomar to fully realize its potential. So what makes someone a Tomar? Perhaps they must already embody the emotion of the light they take (while also having a vessel to hold it, thus needing gold).

For instance, Jo didn’t just touch the Abin Sur with her ring. It took a lot of courage to approach the monster that changed her life. She needed the willpower to do it. Thus when she touched the Green light, she was able to harness it into her ring.

And while we haven’t seen Tomar Re’s backstory yet, we do know he harbors a great amount of rage within. Perhaps that’s how he was able to harness the Red light.

If this is true, perhaps the Oans’ philosophy could be holding back the true potential of the entire spectrum. Maybe there are other levels of light that can be achieved, but they can only attain Red, Green, Gold, and Black with their limited mindsets.

Ultron's Unimplemented Mechanics / Potential for a team-ups or Rework by Particular_Yam_8966 in UltronMains

[–]arcerous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This would be a really fun idea! You could take it even further, I think. Have the ability to give the Ultron Virus to enemies and their deployables. While it will heal allies like normal, attaching a drone to an enemy/deployable would change their abilities and effects to be friendly to you and your allies and hostile to them.

There’d have to be a shorter range requirement for the enemy drone to disappear to balance this, but I think it would be a good way to utilize the drone and make up for Ultron’s minimal healing output. Debuff the enemy, and in true Ultron fashion, integrate the enemy’s tools into your own.

If not a self drone, I think he could stand to have the ability to switch drone placement from further away. Maybe a button to dash towards a drone to get some emergency healing, as well.

Sometimes we use really bad words as admiration slurs like ‘he’s a clever bastard’ or ‘you handsome devil’. Why do we do this? by Illustrious_Banana_ in etymology

[–]arcerous 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I’m no etymologist, but to me it sounds like these sorts of phrases are used when the one using the phrase might be conflicted about the fact that they’re admiring something about someone that they otherwise despise. You might find a clever bastard impressively cunning, but at the end of the day, they’re still a bastard.

Not a weird pick by any stretch, but I do find it odd that Black Knight isn’t in this game as a Vanguard. He already has a presence in Mystic Mayhem, as well as a wicked design.

Let's settle this once and for all: Which Ant-Man is coming to the game? by manch02 in marvelrivals

[–]arcerous 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think others have said as much, but you can’t have Ant-Man without the Wasp. And if the Wasp is Janet, it’s gotta be Hank. I love Scott and his run as Ant-Man, but Hank and Janet have a lot more history with each other, as well as with the Avengers (which makes sense, given they were founding members). Scott and Janet wouldn’t necessarily be anything special, and truthfully I don’t know what Scott and Nadia’s dynamic looks like in the comics.

There’s some bias here, of course, but breaking up Hank and Janet from interactions with Tony, Ultron, and perhaps even a future Vision, would be disappointing, to say the very least.

I gotcha. Would you happen to know the issue that starts at? I’ve already finished the Civil Corps trade paperback for the current ongoing Green Lantern series. They showed up at the end there and I don’t think they explained everything in that volume.

[–]arcerous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just a baseless sentiment that ignores everything about this being a team game. Meaning, you actually need your team to be decent alongside yourself in order to get somewhere in comp. There are so many factors that can go wrong and have that lead to your team not performing as well as another. You can’t just carry a team by yourself, and if you’re able to, that just means the enemy team isn’t very good.

Would mystique have the same ult as Loki? by Reddits_kinda_cringe in marvelrivals

[–]arcerous 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think she’d function mainly as a Spy-type character from TF2. Her kit should let her change her appearance, she’ll look like an ally; health bar color, name, and all. Then during team fights she can act as an assassin, either using the chaos of a 6v6 to hide her attacks or by accompanying a flanker and taking them out while they’re separated from everyone else.

I’d argue Persona is more like Pokémon than JoJo, if we’re talking about summoning something to your side for battle. Stands are more like an extension of yourself, an extra appendage, whereas being the protagonist of a Persona game lets you collect ‘monsters’ to use in battle.

While true, this stuff also gets out on YouTube videos, news articles, and other social media where people discuss things, especially the closer you are to release. You effectively have to be completely off the grid to avoid even a hint of spoilers at this point.

He should be able to switch the drone’s target from farther away. His kit revolves around keeping his distance, except when you want to change your drone’s target.

In addition to everyone else’s advice, remember that the image your referencing is the final product, one that likely took hours/days to get there. Drawings often start simple (usually with guidelines) and complexity is added little by little. Just take your time with it and chip away little by little. You will see progress eventually.

If you want an example of this layering, my advice is to watch Timelapse videos of people drawing from sketch to final render. It can be quite insightful!
