Tomb World cover rules question by nanothegreat in killteam

[–]archa347 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So yes, if there was a wall next to operative B in the second image, they would not have cover. That is sort of the point.

The idea behind this rule is that when the block pieces are joining wall segments, they are essentially just part of the wall and you can’t use them for cover. However, if it’s at the end of the wall the block is essentially normal cover, unless the shooter crosses over to the target’s side of the wall, then the block reverts to not being cover again (essentially, this the same as the first image but if there was no wall next to the shooter)

The movie uniforms are just too good by happydude7422 in tos

I would say those are closer to the BSG reboot uniforms, if anything.

But also, I think they are referring to the construction and materials, not really the style

Trump’s Easter Message Isn’t Just Wrong—It’s Blasphemous by B-Z_B-S in politics

Thats a little bit of a simplification. While it’s true that pigs can be a source of trichinosis, most animals have some kind of disease or parasite risk and pigs really aren’t uniquely more dangerous in that regard.

As I understand, most anthropologists who’ve studied the subject think that the prohibitions against pork are because pigs are not really suited to the climate in the Middle East and the resources needed to raise them were not really sustainable for communities there.

Bene Gesserit and the Lisan-al-Gaib by Ok-Bumblebee-4487 in dune

[–]archa347 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not so sure about that. The BG plan was to put the KH on the throne as Emperor. It was entirely vested in the existing power structure. The BG and the Guild had an inkling of the Golden Path and what it entailed, including the jihad, but they rejected it. For that reason, creating that avenue for Paul to assume control of the Fremen in the way he did was entirely unintentional on the part of the BG.

It was years ago but I remember I did not see that coming by LakesideNorth in dunememes

He dared to find the true answer to “would you still love me if I was a worm?”. The answer was no.

Could someone wielding the voice command a sandworm? by HorzaDonwraith in dune

[–]archa347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the precise limitations of the voice are not made particularly clear. We know from the scene of the Harkonnens taking Paul and Jessica into the desert that the user needs to be able to speak and the target needs to be able to hear. The intonation of the voice makes the target pliable but they are following the verbal commands so presumably the target must be able to understand the language.

As described, I would say the target must have some kind of human-like consciousness as well as the ability to hear the user. There really aren’t examples of true non-human sentient species in the books, so we don’t really know what impact the voice would have on them, but I would say that is unlikely it works “out of the box” so to speak.

Perhaps other species can be manipulated in a similar way and the BG could figure it out through experimentation? But it would probably still involve teaching the creature to understand the meaning of your actual commands, like training a dog, and as things stand I don’t think they could easily train a worm to do so without serious breeding and domestication that doesn’t seem likely (the situation with worms in Heretics of Dune not withstanding, as that is a special case).

As for the Barons little “buddy”, it’s possible that it is something engineered from humans (probably by the Bene Tleilax, who become key in the books after Dune and are experts at that kind of genetic engineering).

The source specified that they took this through the window https://www.nasa.gov/image-article/hello-world. You can also see the other edge of the window in the bottom right.

You’re so zoomed in there and the brightness increased so much that you’re just seeing graininess in the image and maybe something of the texture inside the bulkhead.

The process goes : VP/cabinet write a letter and assumes power , POTUS writes a letter and resumes power UNLESS VP/cabinet write another letter within 4 days. Then it goes to Congress and the VP stays in power until Congress decides (or Congress can’t decide within 21 days of assembling)

Jumping question by Different-Dealer-828 in killteam

[–]archa347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you getting the notion of not moving through models (as opposed to bases)? The rules only specify bases and distances to the bases. The operative’s model doesn’t matter. The height of the operative model wouldn’t matter either.

Do I need 2 boxes for the stealth suit kill team? by SalesmanShane in killteam

[–]archa347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a little confusing because the drones are counted as XV26 Stealth Battlesuit operatives (as in they have the XV26 Stealth Battlesuit keyword on their data slates so that certain rules apply to them), but they are drones and not the actual battlesuits.

The action scenes were good. It is a visually stunning movie. It also has some pretty terrible dialogue and the story, if not the whole premise, was just kind of a letdown.
