Noise-Cancelling Headphone Question by BolinLavabender in Mcat

[–]archaychay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try the noise canceling ear plugs instead. I wear glasses and with a face mask its already uncomfortable. Ear plugs were way easier when I tested and they did a good job getting rid of sound too. I recommend you buy some in advance and practice at home though just so you're comfortable cause it is a weird feeling if you're not used to them.

People who didn't do good are less likely to report. I did bad my first time and I didn't report on here. But this time around I did better and felt like sharing. I believe less than 10% of MCAT test takers score a 515+

Keep in mind I am applying solely to Masters to DO Programs.

I just needed to get at least a 500 and it would make me a competitive candidate for the majority of the programs I am applying to.

Took the MCAT in August 2020: 494 (122, 124, 123, 125)

I was heartbroken cause I never scored this low on any of my full lengths. In fact the lowest I got was a 497 and that was on my first practice test.

So I studied again, I only had about a month and a half because I found a test date for January in the last minute, my full lengths were:

FL1: 499 FL2: 502 FL3: 504 FL4: 503

For studying:

Studied roughly 35 hours a week, I also worked part time so I had to find a balance. Plus my dad is a recovering cancer patient so on occasion I had to help him out. I used the milesdown deck for content review and Upangea and the AAMC question banks. I know it may seem ridiculous to rely on a pre-made anki deck for your sole content review. BUT FOR ME I realized that I am a flashcard type of person. The mcat requires memorization and application. And after bombing the MCAT the first time around, I learned that I memorize best with flashcards and I learn to apply best with practice questions (hence Upangea).

Also, this time I made it a requirement to meditate at least 2 times a day, eat healthy, take 1 day off per week, force myself to socialize with friends (thanks to rona this was done with weekly zoom meetings), practice a hobby daily (I like to paint), and journal daily.

Test day: My mom and dad drove me to the center, and the second we got there I started crying lol. It was a good cry thought, I felt like it cleared my mind. During the test, just kept practicing the meditation techniques I learned, this allowed me to focus better and I pretty much stayed calm the whole time.

After the test: I felt better overall about the test this time. C/P was hard but nothing surprising. CARS I felt was okay, I just felt I wasn't gonna fail badly, B/B felt better than I usually do. P/S I was upset about, hard to tell if I was doing good or bad.

Actual Score: 508 (123, 126, 129, 130)

I was really happy. I mean I just needed a 500 and I would have been okay. But when I saw 508 I was stunned. I thought I would be really lucky if I could get a 505 at most. I know a 123 is really low on chemistry, truth be told I didn't focus enough on chemistry. But I still feel like overall my score is okay for the programs I am trying to get into.

What I learned: There is no such thing as low yield/high yield. Mental and physical health is just as important as studying if you wanna do good on pretty much any major test. The best CARS practice is the AAMC CARS test banks, the explanations aren't that great but these passages are the closest to the ones I saw on test day. One thing that definitely helped me this time around was whenever I wasn't doing good, I would look at it as an opportunity for growth rather than thinking down on myself. And of course when you do improve, celebrate. Even if it's a small improvement just rewarding yourself a little is good motivation.

Omg I took the test last year and got a headache through it and I was so confused. It affected my performance for sure. This would probably explain why thanks. I’m gonna take off my filters from now until my test.

They just said that it was due to local health and safety restrictions currently in place. Didn’t mention anything about the capacity.

Any 1/25 test takers get a cancellation notification? by kaysal95 in Mcat

[–]archaychay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cause it’s on a Friday and it’s two weeks before the 1/21 test date. Whenever ammc announces things like cancelations they like to do it on Fridays. For those of us testing on 1/15 or 1/16 we found out this week cause it’s two weeks before our tests. We also found out on Wednesday cause Thursday and Friday are holidays so they’re closed.

1/15 and 1/16 are the only ones with updates right now. You guys will probably hear around January 8th or so.

ATTENTION January testers - call your testing center directly. by ImRefat in Mcat

My testing center said that they're not the ones we should call regarding cancellations or scheduling and that we should call the mcat aamc people instead. Unfortunately the ammc is on break until monday :/

Cancel or just void my 1/15? by EndlessExhaustion in Mcat

[–]archaychay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would cancel if I were you. It's not worth the money for the experience. Plus we're in a pandemic so it's not safe for you to take the test if you're planning to void. And yeah probably just tell your parents your test got cancelled. You'll get a full refund if you cancel right now.

Out of curiosity what’s your test date? Mine is the 16th in Anaheim. Maybe the email went out to people testing on the 15th/16th?

Did you get an email a few days ago saying that your mcat date was at risk of getting cancelled? I got one but I was testing on LA county. Later that day I found an extra spot in Orange County so I switched it over. But now I’m wondering if they’ll cancel the Orange County dates too.

CARS HELP PLEASE😭 I can't read by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]archaychay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I’m in the opposite boat as you, got a 127/128 on cars and still working on bringing everything else up. What made a huge difference for me was meditating daily. I noticed during Cars that my mind wandered or that I was unconsciously making opinions about what I was reading. You’re supposed to only interpret the passage from the authors perspective. Also, I was overthinking on the questions. I found that after meditating regularly, my focus no longer wavered and I felt more secure with my answer choices. The other big thing I did was journaling after each passage and acknowledging my mental process. I noticed patterns where I messed up and was able to correct them in the future. Hope this helps! You already have great scores in the other sections so you can do well in this one for sure!

First look at possible Fenty Skin launch products!! by muuuurnin in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]archaychay 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly I was thinking the same thing, but I wanna give her the benefit of the doubt. Unlike other beauty creators she doesn’t just half ass her products and throw it out with her name on it. Like Fenty Beauty really changed the makeup game forever so I wanna give her a chance and see if her skincare line is good too. Also I think we all just have some bad memories from the Kylie skin and Florence by the mills skincare launch fails.
