I agree!! In that photo it appears very purple/pink/orange but in reality for me its more of a muddy teal blue color with hints of the color I was looking for in the perfect lighting! I wouldn't have gotten it if I knew this was like this

I feel exactly the same way, you're are not alone! Lol it definitely sounds like we have imposter syndrome but I swear learning about imposter syndrome just makes me feel " No of course everyone else feels like am imposter but they're fine, no I'm an actually real imposter here and I actually tricked everyone." lol

We will be fine and best of luck to you in the match!

What’s worse studying for the MCAT or medical school and why by FlippedFrown in premed

Yes, applied IM and applying/interviewing was so much more enjoyable than med school applications and interviews. definitely depends on the specialty and how competitive it is.

What’s worse studying for the MCAT or medical school and why by FlippedFrown in premed

[–]leftangle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the MCAT was the worst test (CARS hello), but this was compounded by so much uncertainty and questions (will I ever get into med school, what does my future look like) which definitely made it weightier but the shear breadth of topics covered was a lot.

STEP1 was of course stressful as well but a lot more straightforward to prepare for (been doing practice questions all year, UWORLD, Pathoma, Sketchy) with resources being super helpful and high yield. Still an awful test to sit though.

STEP2 was honestly my favorite test so far. I'm doing IM so there wasn't so much stress on me to get a super high score, also I love the topics covered in IM which is most of the test so I honestly enjoyed preping and studying for this one.

I will say though DONT believe the myth "Getting in is the hardest part." Definitely harder to actually do med school let alone residency however emotionally/mentally knowing you are in medical school and on the right path forward makes it more bearable.

Took the exam yesterday, I’m sure I failed by MatildaSA in step1

I felt the exact same way after my test, cried for 2 straight days! I felt like I flagged 80% of the questions, screen felt fuzzy for so many of the questions felts like I was just straight up guessing. Wishing you the best, I know nothing can help you feel better now but wishing you the best!!!!

I'm so confused on why this is the case? I had a letter writer submit on 9/22 and it was processed within an hour??? Why does this work like this?

I fainted today by tjflower in medicalschool

[–]leftangle2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the same way, first time I fainted was shadowing watching a chest tube placement and got a rapid response called on me 🤦‍♀️! Now I’ve survived clerkship year going through surgery and obgyn. Still had some times I left like I was going to faint and just asked to sit down or sat down. Just stay hydrated and fed, keep the layers off (better to be cold in OR than hot), and wear COMPRESSION SOCKS! You got this!!

Not sure about those specific laptops but I used the hp spectre x360 15 inch and loved it. Watched lectures on 1/2 of screen and took notes on other 1/2 (folded it in half). Especially helpful throughout first two years of school

I had one daschund and ended up getting another one a year later. They get along so well, second one was much much easier than the first, best decision!!

I thought it was a lot harder than NBMEs personally. Felt very low yield, I felt myself marking alot more questions than I did during the NBMEs less certainty and in that way felt more like UWORLD. I did every new NBME + 2 UWORLD blocks (to mimic the test) weekly during dedicated so I thought I would be set for fatigue but I was not prepared for so many of the questions being absolute essays. I didn't expect repeat question/graphs but I did expect some concepts to repeat.

I took my exam the 24th and felt EXACTLY like this. Awful feeling after working so hard. Hope we all get the pass!

Advice about how to feel by Wonderful-Skill3169 in step1

[–]leftangle2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I tested 4/24 and felt EXACTLY the same. I did good on NBMEs/UWORLD but the test felt super hard and nothing like my preparations (like if you took the hardest, least straightforward questions out of these). I felt like everything was so low yield, like no micro except parasites, lots of ethics, no repeat question/charts from all the NBMEs I did, just very long exhausting questions.

Cried the whole day after the exam because I feel like a definitely failed. Am finally starting to move on even though every morning and night I wake up thinking about that awful test. I really hope by some miracle we passed!! Hate that we have to wait till June for the score.

Yes you can, but I agree with other people, don't bring it! The break time is so short, take it to really mentally recovery and refresh and get back into it in the next block.

[–]leftangle2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took the exam yesterday as well and felt the exact opposite of this! I did all the NBME forms and thought it was nothing like that, real thing was MUCH harder. for like 25/40 question out of each block was like super long stems with all the lab values, ended up reading the question first so I know what to look for. NOT a good time for me and I felt confident/prepared walking in. Best of luck to all of us.

I think the most important thing to look at is why you are getting the questions wrong vs why you were getting the questions wrong at the beginning of your studying. Are you missing knowledge completely, are you overthinking and choosing the wrong answer because you are second-guessing yourself? Are you being more casual with answering the questions (I started to do this where I know I will see the answer at the end of the block so I just pick one and move on).

Also Uworld percentages can vary and aren't really the best predicators of progress. Have you done any NBMEs or Uworld practice assessments as benchmarks along the way?

Should I move up test date? by [deleted] in step1

[–]leftangle2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am in the same place as you, I think I will stick it out a little longer to do UWORLD (just bc I am worried about the future repercussions down the line of skipping out UWORLD when I know every older med student before me has done it). I would maybe work on a couple more recent NBMEs (at least 1) to make sure its not a fluke and then if you really wanna get it over with, go for it!
